1. The microorganism must be found in all cases of the disease. 2. It must be isolated from the host and grown in pure culture. 3. It must reproduce the original disease when introduced into a susceptible host. 4. It must be found in the experimental host so infected.
As discussed in the below web site, all of Koch's postulates for HIV (as the cause of AIDS) have been established in scientific journals.
The issue of whether Robert Gallo attempted to 'steal' credit for the discovery of HIV is a red-herring argument, as it doesn't diminish the real achievements in HIV research by Luc Montagnier, Jean-Claude Chermann and Francois Barre-Sinnousi at the Pasteur Institute.
