I wouldn't wish such news on my worst enemy, and while I don't much agree with the Edwards's politics, they have proven to be good and honest, with a heart for people...

Let's all stop today and collectively-hope that their news will turn course for the better and this family won't lose their wife and mother...

Politics can wait...

Thanks for being such a great example for the rest of us.

Although I am not Jewish, I would say you are a "Mensch" for this -- in Yiddish it means that you "instinctively do the right thing" "a good person", arole model, a "mensch" a "particularly good person", "a stand-up guy," a person with the qualities one would hope for in a dear friend or trusted colleague... My hat is off to you.

chew them up- I agree.  No matter what your politics are, this disease is terrible.  It hurts you, steels from you and never lets up!  My prayers are with her as well.

The cancer is in her bone so she is going to be dead in two to three years.  I'm not being flippant or anything because anyone of us might be gone before she is.  Edwards might as well quit now.  He can run 10 years from now. She better get right with God.

That would make for some uncomfortable Thanksgiving dinners, Christmas gatherings, and family reunions considering how venomously I debate religion and politics! ROTFLMFAO!

...I see this whole dynamic quite different... In their heart of hearts they probably realize that it's medically hopless, but I respect their decision to press on together in this presidential dream they've shared for so many years... It's somehow unique, sad and yet enduring to see a husband and wife in politics that actually like eachother! More political marriages are public shams like the Clintons...

Edwards is a unique democrat... I'd NEVER want him as my president, but I think I'd respect him as a friend...

how a Republican would be chided as being a heartless bastard were he to also "press onward", under the same circumstances.

I would have given anything for a marriage of mutual support and respect.  Of affection and loyalty.  Of friendship and hope.  What I got - fell far short on all of these.

Denial?  When my mom was diagnosed, I was at her side... I figured that we had months...  little did I know, we had days.  Once I went home with the probably diagnosis, I called around (as oncology is NOT my specialty) and found out that indeed, this was bad... and as she had been asymptomatic for most of the time she had the cancer, it had metastacised to other organs, and was preventing her from maintaining her weight and strenght.  She went very quickly, and somewhat painlessly.  But, did that prevent her from wanting to do the things that she had set out to do? No.  As we sat in her home, with me talking to oncology experts, and finding out just how bad it was, she was sitting by my side, dictating a manuscript for my kids... and talking about changes in the workplace that would make it easier for women to advance in the workplace.

Sad?  yea... but I am envious of Edwards in that indeed he does seem to have a real marriage....

and yea, I too have VERY liberal friends... who have good marriages... and I do respect that!  And long for it.

Said on his show that this was a political ploy by Edwards I think the party has already earned its "heartless" label by the company they keep/employ.

you consider ALL Republicans heartless.

That you consider something said by one Republican as having been embraced by all.

Interesting.

Oh, and BTW I know you didn't listen to Rush, because he never said that this was an Edwards political ploy. But then the truth doesn't matter to you. You have your hate to hold on to.

I don't believe every Democrat wants to take my guns away either.

Whenever iconic mouthpieces like Rush Limbaugh or Barbara Streisand are canonized by a faction the minions are often lumped into their respective narcissistic ideologies.

Why may I ask did you feel it necessary to post this wholly defensive partisan question in a thread devoted to NON partisan sympathy and empathy for a couple dealing with a most likely terminal illness? That in itself shows a modicum of "heatless" narcissism.

and didn't attack nor degrade ANYTHING about the Edwards'. I did NOT say their choice was NOT valid NOR honorable. I didn't even address the Edwards. I DID raise a very valid question about others and THEIR potential reactions.

YOU are the one that brought Rush Limbaugh into this, without even adressing my POINT. You DID IMPLY that whatever Limbaugh says, the party inherhits. I'm sorry I stated that too strongly. Glad to hear you don't think it's true.

About me originally making the post...
Sorry for dragging politics into this. I'm sure your'e right that politics NEVER entered John Edward's mind during his statement.

you don't give an inch, do ya?

BTW, I don't think there is any difference. Keeping someone in your thoughts (I attribute to you good motives) is prayer as I understand it...

It does give and inch.

Two reasons for it: when you can't do anything, remind yourself of the person so that someday you might think of something.

Second, it's in hope that you think that there's a benevolent super-being that can read thoughts, will know your wishes.  No praise for hypothetical being is appropriate before the proof, and it's not necessary that you form these in words, because anything that could read thoughts will know them.

A little more than an inch.  There might be no evidence of a super-being much less a supreme one, but nobody knows everything and the universe is unpredictable.

I don't have to rationalize my emotional responses nor what they compel me to do.  They are there, and I accept them.  No rationalization is necessary, and any one I make would be untruthful.
