I see a polarized nation with poor leadership. This includes our current AND former Presidents so no one thinks I'm being partisan. We are like $16 trillion in debt, and that will surely explode even further when all the Baby Boomers retire.
Our inner cities resemble killing fields. Police are so overwhelmed they are not responding to "minor" crimes anymore like burglary and assault. Chicago just announced that. My understanding is cities such as Detroit, Oakland, New Orleans(and others) are already third world hell holes.
Let me elaborate on the debt a bit more. If you starting spending one million dollars a day on the day Christ was born, and spent a million dollars a day, every single day until today's date, you could spend for 700 more years and still not have reached one trillion dollars.
Well, there is some good news. The stock market for some reason is at a five year high. That's a nice way of saying if you invested $1,000 five years ago, you would be exactly even today. Congratulations!
Don't tell me to MOVE. I know I wouldn't be missed, and I would if I could. Unfortunately, everyone else is a basket case as well. I hear SOME good things about Switzerland and Costa Rica. I lean towards Switzerland. They know how to mind their own business, unlike the US of A. And their chocolate is good.
Besides, I would be a lot less worried about the future of America, and a lot more worried about the future of the world. The existence of "nations" is going to be a distant memory when climate change wipes out 50% of the species on this earth.
I've been hearing the same old pleats since I was a kid, and the USA is still the best place to live and raise a family on earth, in my book, though Switzerland, and New Zealand do look tempting. I've found that taking road trips really opens my eyes to the beauty of this land and most of its people. Will our standard of living go down? Undoubtedly, however, it will still be very good, and much better than most countries. And, I'd still, once again, put my life on the line to defend it. JMHO
I remember when I lived in New York in the 80s there was a big electric sign in Times Square that said an acre of rain forest was being destroyed every second. OMG I thought.
So surely the rain forest must be gone by now and envirnomental catastrophe is upon us - but it's not and no one even talks about the rain forest anymore.
Until I see some real life bad effect caused by the debt, I 'm not going to worry about it. Despite the S & P downgrade we still sell treasury bonds all the time. And the stock market is absolutely booming. Even St. Croix can make money in this market if he would just listen to me and stop being a market timer.
I've traveled a bit, (all 50 states and 97 countries), and my opinion is as your's....the USA is the place to live. Thought about moving to Switzerland when I retired, as my paternal family is from there. But the cost of living and taxes put an end to that. Plus, the Swiss have 'quotas' on the number of foreigners that are allowed to build homes there. You can buy an existing home, (Lowest price I found was $600,000 for a 3 bedroom chalet), but building from scratch has different rules. New Zealand? Never been there. For all it's faults, I love the USA.
I was just breaking your balls...You could just ignore my posts all together, if you like.
I didn't disagree with your statement, America is the best country to raise a family in. We the people need to be givin something. So we can continue to enable the corperate capital structure which the world serves.
This same structure you feel the need to be protected from, when borrowing money. In the form of a home mortgage loan. IMO that sounds a little hypocritical, but that's the American way.
Why exactly can't you leave? Is anybody keeping you here? I think you really want to say you don't have the courage to leave because you know this is still the greatest country! Stop whining!
