I am still proud to be an American and I am very blessed to live in the greatest country on earth. Where else would I be afforded the opportunity to become a successful, independent person based on my hard work and responsible action? I see that there is a new demographic of people who have never been in a position to be affected by policy change and are utterly outraged. One of the most important lessons I've learned in my life is to accept the things I cannot change!!! I may not agree with it, I may even hate it but I must accept it for my own peace of mind and happiness. I find it fascinating that people have been so unaware and apathetic about the widespread racism and discrimination in this country that has been such a cancer for hundreds of years. I believe it is a natural instinct to ignore and deny something until it affects you personally. In the 70's my African American family moved to a community where we were one of the first black families there so I was introduced to racism at an early age. Being hated because of the color of my skin and not the content of my character has made me a strong woman and not a victim. I strive to defy stereotypes and preconceived notions about my race because my parents modeled that for me. Unfortunately, I don't believe we can eradicate racism completely because it is a fear based thing that is deeply ingrained in human nature. Again that is IMHO. I cannot begin to comprehend how scary and frustrating it must be to be denied entry to a country and kicked out when you have followed all of the necessary steps to do so legally. I have no frame of reference for that.
I could take to the streets and join the other angry people who are frightened by the current state of affairs and potential historical changes that are looming over us but I believe that energy would be put to better use by working and paying my taxes! Just sayin!!!The hobby isn't legal in the US, so I don't get why you seem to think that you are afforded that opportunity to do that. It is not a "responsible action" as it does break laws. You don't pay taxes responsibly either and that has nothing to do with what is going on in our country.
By simply waving off the racism and discrimination as a non factor in people's lives, you are condoning it. Yes you can become a stronger person because of it and prove others wrong but there is no reason to not stand up against it.
Yes, some of the things you said are true but that is no excuse to allow it. Yes, you are allowing it by trying to put others down for taking a stand for what is right. I bet you'd be pissy if everyone watched your rights get taken away and fucked over. I am sure that is not ok with you, so why should it be ok for someone else? If you chose not to fight, that is your life. To say that everyone is just fearful and stupid for not having your silent approval is quite another.

First of all aren't you participating on a f*** board? Do you just post here under an alias or do you visit providers? Lecturing me about illegal activity on a f*** board, hypocritical much? Did you see my tax return? How do you know how much I paid and reported? You presume to know me. How do you know if I've had rights taken away or not? I am afforded the opportunity to be a prosperous individuals in spite of my race or gender and I have been able to do so in the past legally. And when I say responsible action I mean for the most part. I am quite aware that the hobby is illegal but thank you for reminding me. Protest for me personally is not a good use of my time and my time only! I would never wave off racism and discrimination or put others down for voicing their disdain of it. You have no idea how racism and discrimination affected me as a child. I used to literally lose sleep and be physically affected by it but I made a choice to learn and grow personally because of my experience.
So a person can keep their head in the sand or speak up.
Also no one wins looking the other way and money will not protect you either.
You have the right to your own opinion but being correct is another story.
Being correct? What does that have to do with me making a personal decision about dealing with racism and discrimination as it pertains to me, a 41 year old black woman on February 1st, 2017? Could you please elaborate on what you mean by "being correct"
Delaney you are a 41 year old black woman and don't understand that part?
You made your decision and that's fine.
Just remember other people don't have to agree with your way of dealing with it either.
This is why we live in America and can disagree with each other.
I won't let any scumbag on here or in life stop me.
We can at least agree on one of your points.
-- Modified on 2/1/2017 2:45:39 PM
I completely understand and I don't expect or need anyone to agree with my way of dealing with it. You have the right to tell me you think I'm incorrect and I have the right to disagree!!
-- Modified on 2/1/2017 5:12:53 PM
He means that as a 41 year old black woman, if you don't fall in line with BLM, Hillary Clinton and their ilk, you are a "sell out" Just like I am a "sell out" for forsaking my liberal roots that came with being born non white AND growing up in the SF Bay Area in 60's 70's, and then having the gall to become a productive, taxpaying member of the community instead of claiming "victim status" for myself and spending the next several decades whining about how tough I have it.
That's what he means by "being correct" Being correct means doing everything the DNC, Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson tell you to do.
BTW, We most certainly are not going to agree on everything, but kudos to you for breaking ranks with what you are "supposed to believe" and making your own decisions and saying what YOU believe instead of simply parroting what the DNC tells you that you should believe.
Thank you GaG! My mother is in her 70's and grew up in Birmingham, Alabama in the middle of the Civil Rights movement and segregation. She chose to remove herself from that situation, move to Seattle, work 2 jobs to put herself through nursing school, became an RN and in my opinion is the epitome of the American Dream. My father also chose to remove himself from the cycle of poverty he lived in in Pennsylvania, joined the Army, fought in Vietnam, used the GI bill to put himself through college while working a full time job. They both encountered a lot of discrimination in their respective fields but fought it not by filing complaints and whining about "unfairness" but through education and promotion. They have always been home owning, taxpaying citizens and hard work, tenacity and defiance through success are the morals and values that were modeled to me by them.
Even the biggest racists you will ever encounter will have a grudging respect for people like your parents. The problem of course is every BLM member undoes all your parents hard work. Until people like your parents become the majority of black people it's unlikely that race relations are going to get any better, especially with people like Eric Holder, Barrack Obama, Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton continually fanning the fires of racism.
BTW, my story is not a lot different. I too lived and worked in the VERY deep south in the early/mid 1970s In my case it was the Gulf Coast of Louisiana, about as south as you can go. lol I am not black, but having slanted eyes was no picnic especially since there was no "Asian community" to turn to for support. Hell, they didn't even know what to call me, so they just called me "Jap" despite the fact I am Chinese. A very few called me "gook" as this was at the end of the Vietnam era. Back then there were no "micro aggressions" or "covert" racism. Racism back then was "in your face" as in "We don't hire niggers or japs here, so get the fuck out" kind of racism.
Fast forward 40 years and I am still in the south, but things are a thousand percent different. I know there are still some people who still snicker under their breath about me, but by and large I do just fine, right in the middle of redneckville. I have ZERO desire to march or protest or anything of the like, I am perfectly content having the opportunity to live as large as my ambition, luck and hard work will allow me to. If I fail and fall on my face, it won't be because of racism, I own my successes and I own my failures and I am not looking to shift the blame onto others.
AAR, it's good to have you around, I hope you don't get pushed off the board because you don't fit into someone else's idea of how a black woman is supposed to think or act.
So don't take my word for it.
Just read his comments on here and Jack too.
They are the type of people you talked about last year.
When you posted your personal story about bullies growing up.

You should go and show her your history of racists comments on here too.
Then she will see for herself you are a fraud!

First, regarding the Muslim Ban, this is an action aimed at a minority for very questionable reasons. Religious discrimination is certainly not uncommon. There are lots of people who won't associate with Catholics, won't be happy if Jews move on on their block, are suspicious of people of this that or another belief. Call it human frailty or ignorance or whatever. And yes, instead of confronting the guy who hates you because of your religion or lack of it, maybe it's better to just go about your business. But when a government public servant attempts to speak on behalf of the country which I call my own, and voices a hatred towards any group outside the majority, I will probably express the assertion of my own acceptance of that group and probably in a variety of ways and forum including taking to the streets.
Secondly, that ordinary citizens stand up for each other against evil or misguided authorities is why you and I live in a country we can take pride in and in which we can prosper. And by eliminating hatred to whatever extent possible in our own environment, we shape a community which is desirable to live in.
So it is somewhat unfair, IMO, to suggest that those who speak out so that the world knows that not everyone in America accepts this kind of prejudice.
And lastly, regarding the racism you suffered since a child, people of many ethnic backgrounds took to the streets of rode buses or wrote letters or walked their friends home. Racism still exists. Maybe it feels that those people who tried to help didn't do enough, maybe you feel that they too held stereotypes because they had not yet been able to get beyond the attitudes their families and communities had programmed to accept. That is all true. But whatever they were able to do, and however you saw them, they did what they could. So we all do what we can. There are reasons why you feel that taking to the street is not something you can do. That's okay. Just do what you can. That's all we can ask of each other.
I could take to the streets and join the other angry people who are frightened by the current state of affairs and potential historical changes that are looming over us but I believe that energy would be put to better use by working and paying my taxes! Just sayin!!!
On the issue of human relations, US of A showed first signs of civilization in the sixties. We still remain relatively backward compared with many countries in Western Europe.
Whenever you felt hurt by racism, you might have wondered why some of your friends and acquaintances didn't come to express their support to you. Perhaps they were afraid. Perhaps they didn't know how. Perhaps they were reluctant publicly do so.
You should always try and express your outrage at things that are not right for the community at large, regardless of whether you are being directly affected.
But, don't feel bad for your helplessness. You are, after all, expressing in a way you feel comfortable.
I could take to the streets and join the other angry people who are frightened by the current state of affairs and potential historical changes that are looming over us but I believe that energy would be put to better use by working and paying my taxes! Just sayin!!!
all the lib whining is now just background noise
you guys pulled your chicken-little more than a few times too many
that was REALLY fast!
a big hissy fit
about FUCKING EVERYTHING! LOL
waaaaah! ![]()
Quite the contrary, she sounds like she has her head screwed on pretty straight.
Let me guess, another white man telling people of color just how we are "supposed" to act and feel.
Have you ever been subjected to racism? I don't mean tacit or covert racism, I mean having someone in power tell you straight to your face that "your kind" is not welcome there. If not please STFU and quit telling us how we are supposed to deal with it.
And are you seriously suggesting we should use Western Europe as a template? Have you seen what's been going on over there the last several years?
I've learned that I can wear my "Grateful" sweatshirt, and protest injustices, at the very same time! ![]()
Yes mattradd you absolutely can! Once again I"ll use I statements and say that I, personally choose not to participate in protest.
No where did you say what others should do, as dumbass Taffy claimed. But him misquoting people here is nothing new.
You merely said for YOU, you can being doing more constructive things.
And thanks for rejecting the victim card. Virtually everyone can go that route but that is self destructive.
Overcoming our challenges should be the goal, not crying about what life has thrown in our way in the form of a road block.
Great post!
Thank you! I used I statements didn't I!!
You see it's not about over coming challenges but changing them!
This is why people protest and it's calling out a person or problem.
When the Tea party of mostly old racist white people were protesting against President Obama health care law.
I did not see or hear this type of thread.
It's because you and others on here don't like what people are protesting about now.
Also you don't like some of the groups like BLM protesting either.
Just stop with your garbage and I know what you are really about Jack.
You merely said for YOU, you can being doing more constructive things.

the victim no more. you go girl. no one can truly victimize us without allowing it. keep making money and being prosperous. Those marching are stuck in victim mode.
"So weird to grasp being okay with the government stealing 35% of your salary and think that's fair. Whatever."
Victimhood is saying person X did something to you, therefore that stops you from doing Y.
One is a complaint, the other is an excuse.
One is a complaint, the other is an excuse.
Nice try Jack, but you don't get to set the definition of victimhood. If a person feels, or believes that some person or entity (organization, government, or governmental agency is "stealing" from them, they are saying they feel victimized!
P.S. Institutionalized racism is not a "person X." ![]()
Of course bc its liberals that define what racism is (but liberals cant be racist!) and they get to define victimhood so people can just use that as an excuse as well.
Well guess what? Delaney doesn't play by your rules and many others have stopped ad well. Those rules have been pushed back against just like all the other PC crap that comes from your side of the aisle.
ANYONE can play the victim card. But people who want a better and happier life, find ways to move past it and DONT use it as an excuse to keep them down. ![]()
Stick with the discussion and the context it's been placed in! ![]()
I am no victim and know when to say No when something is not in my best interest. I would not pay much in taxes a week if I were my niece. With her choices, I would do a health savings account, have the max deducted for profit sharing. She was invited to go march, I advised her to go to work and not use her vacation days for that.
Well being stuck on stupid is what really works for Trump and his cult.
So no one plays the victim more than Liar-In-Chief and his supporters.

Thanks girl! In 2017 success is the best revenge isn't it!!
First, I liked your post, well said.
I have no doubt, you'll hear weak voices, not in your presence, fail with their prejudicial contempt, attempting to discount your opinion and your successes, because you are a Hooker.
I have a distinct suspicion you easily ignore those unmanly male fools.
In my past I was often mocked and belittled by insecure men because of my jobs working as a Dishwasher, Fast Food Specialist and Janitor.
The only influence weakling pompous fools had on me, they gave me more resolve to do my job better than anyone.
At the time I had no idea my work ethic year after year, would lead me to working for the "America First" team, with monetary rewards galore.
Your statement "One of the most important lessons I've learned in my life is to accept the things I cannot change" is almost identical to one of my most important lessons in my life, I try to live by.
Fortunately I learned the easy way, by watching older guys in my youth fail miserably.
I don't worry about anything I have absolutely no control over.
That's worked out very well for me in many aspects of my life especially in the romance department.
I might not be as happy as I was yesterday if she leaves me tomorrow but I'll sleep easy with my belief, the choice to stay or go is entirely hers to make.
There will always be people who hold preconceived notions about others, regardless of race.
Pure bred White teens and young White College Gals in the Sorority can be the most vindictive and fountains of contemptuous hate against their own kind, as any racist spewing the ignorant belief, their Color is supreme.
You are correct in your estimation that taking to the streets to protest something you CAN NOT change is wasted energy.
When 2 % of College Boys and Gals protest against the new Dean's curriculum, the Scholar with a Plan to help ALL students enrolled, the Dean's mind won't change, regardless how much Snowflake students whine and cry.
Off the subject but your post made me think about the Congressmen who didn't show up for President Trump's Inauguration.
In my not so humble opinion those missing Government officials look to me like they don't support Democracy and a civilized change of power.
I've never had much respect for Hillary Clinton but I have to give her credit, she proved to me she's much more Patriotic and stronger than the no shows.
Thank you for your time, Delaney.
"America First"

This is real progress for you.
You can say American first all you want Quad.
The Truth is you are being played by Trump!

...But I did when I saw her on Election Night (we watched the results between rounds).
LMFAO I would looooovvvveee it!! Especially after leg day!!
Co-dependency, hog farm, trailer park,
Oh yeah, there is that 12-step path to wisdom.
Uh, republicans
(Not you, Delaney. I liked your post.)
