You echo pro-Putin talking points. Why won't you stand up against Putin? Why do you ha te American democracy? Talk about being Putin's pussy. And it's been explained to you repeatedly that Putin didn't invade Ukraine during the trump administration because trump was busy trying to weaken and extort Ukraine's president while doing Putin's biding by weakening NATO, the EU, and dividing America. Got it, dummy?

Right now, war continues to rage in Ukraine as the government and citizens fight like dogs to repel Putin’s forces hammering the country…

… “If Putin thought Trump was really that supportive of him, why didn’t he invade when Trump was in office? It’s at least worth asking that question if you’re not locked into one intransigent thought,” Maher said Friday night when talking about the war in Ukraine.

He also took shots at both sides of the aisle for making the war about them instead of the reality on the ground. You can watch his full comments below.

Maher:

Even war in Ukraine has just become another chance to graft our agenda onto someone else's pain. Don't make World War 3 all about you.

But ultimately it is an exercise in futility. We will never know the real answer.
Maybe it took him this long to train and build up his forces enough to the point he felt comfortable invading?
Maybe he never really wanted to invade as he thought he would get concessions from Biden/NATO/Ukraine that never came?
Maybe he felt he had an ally in Trump and didn't want to piss him off?
Or just maybe, Putin is getting older and wanted to regain as much of the Soviet Union back before he passes so he goes down as a hero (in his mind) in Russian history.
What we do know is that Russia invaded Georgia in 2008 when Bush (the son) was president and I don't remember any Republicans at the time claiming Putin did so because Bush was weak.

We might never know why he didn’t invade then, but our intelligence services knew he was going to invade now. I’m guessing that the services have some analysis on the “why now?”, but it’s unlikely that would be leaked in the midst of the war. I think it will be a question answered in a historical sense when some of that Intel is declassified or leaked.

IMHO, the reason is he thought that Trump was going to pull us out of NATO during a 2nd term.  Which would have made invading Ukraine one heck of a lot more easier.  Give Biden credit.  He kept the NATO alliance together.  Trump wanted to disband it.

  Trump wanted to disband it.
Trump wanted a stronger, well armed NATO that was prepared to defend ALL countries in the alliance.

Under Trump, US troop and weapons deployments into Eastern Europe increased.

Under Trump, at his urging, member contributions to support NATO increased. In fact, NATO funding was higher when Trump left office than when he entered office.

Trump encouraged Europe to not be dependent on Russian oil and gas and pushed an energy policy that looked to increase US oil and gas production and export. He also SANCTIONED Russia’s NordStream2 pipeline into Europe. Guess who dropped those sanctions? Weak Leader Joe Biden.

1. Actually trump repeatedly told advisors, including John Bolton and John Kelly, that he wanted to leave NATO. To quote Bolton trump said " I don't give a shit about NATO. "

2. In 2020 trump ordered the withdrawal of 12,000 US troops in Germany. The Javelin anti-tank missiles that trump eventually sent to Ukraine, after unsuccessfully trying to extort Zelenskyy to announce an investigation of Biden, were sent with the provision they could not be deployed on the front lines against Russian backed separatists so they were stored in western Ukraine.

3. Contributions from NATO members have been increasing sharply every year since 2014 when Russia first invaded Ukraine.

4. Trump did sign a bill in 2017 that targeted Russian energy and defense sectors with sanctions. However the legislation passed Congress with overwhelming bipartisan support in part due to widespread concerns that trump was too cozy with Russia and Putin. When trump signed the bill he did grudgingly and called the bill "seriously flawed ".

And most his claims have been shot down
I guess if you say it enough you’ll believe it..
