Tell you what...After seeing John Edwards' speech just now, I'm thinking that

a lot of under-30 year olds who would otherwise have voted for Bush-Cheney will now vote for Kerry-Edwards.

Kerry made a good choice.  Hopefully all the under-30s will also watch the Edwards-Cheney debate.

Edwards reminds me of Clinton in '92.

He reminds me of what he is... an ambulance chaser!

So would you say that people like Lindsey Graham and Mel Martinez are ambulance chasers as well or does this only apply to trial lawyers who happen to be Democrats?

Although they are almost all lawyers on Capital Hill, this is how Edward's made his fortune. This will not sit well with the voting public...

The only thing people hate worse than lawyers, are rich lawyers who got that way sueing people

happened as a consequence of his lawsuits.  If good consequences came out of the lawsuits then he will be viewed well, regardless of his becoming wealthy as a lawyer.  If the lawsuits only lined his pockets, then he will be viewed negatively.  That is simply the way things work, especially given that non-partisan people will have the final word on whether Edwards is fit to be vice-president.
The poster above mentioned some successful GOP Senators and lawyers who are also wealthy.  Why don't you answer his question directly, instead of resorting to the type of behavior that you too often resort to?

I pointed out that the difference was that Edwards made his fortune on Lawsuits. The others are lawyers, but none that made almost all their wealth by sueing folks.

In addition, remember the realities of politics. People running for the Senate do not get scrutinized as closely as VP candidates.

I thought right wingers LOVED people who succeeded by pulling themselves up by their own bootstraps.

It seems you think some ways of succeedding are better than others.

Please describe which ones are ok and which aren't?

Edwards, helped the little guy, when the little guy had beean hurt by corps. You seem to believe that is not a good thing to do.

Why would you want to protect corps before protecting human beings?

"I pointed out that the difference was that Edwards made his fortune on Lawsuits. The others are lawyers, but none that made almost all their wealth by sueing folks."

-Provide data to prove your point.
All civil law lawyers are either involved in suing or defending against suits.  Do you feel that a lawyer who defends against a rightfully brought and just lawsuit is any more of a saint than the lawyer who brought the lawsuit?
I am not trying to defend Edwards' record on the lawsuits that he brought, plenty of data will be released over the next couple of months on the validity of his suits.  But what I am writing is that you have resorted to the same unbalanced, evasive conduct that I feel that you have become known for on this board.
To other posters who are not involved in this thread, I am sorry about the corrosive nature of the last sentence, but sometimes I have to fight at the same level that an adversary fights at.

who are out of work today because of litigation costs. BTW, I've got no problems with Edwards being a lawyer and sueing, I am talking about the realities of politics.

Same reason the Republican controlled Senate let Bill stay in office. Better to keep a damaged President and faced a weakened VP Al Gore than a sitting POTUS Al Gore in the Presidental elections. that strategy worked well. It's all about public perception in the end.

First things first, follow the link for the info you so desperately seek on John Edwards.

Secondly, this is POLITICS!! Anyone running for VP is going be be scrutinized more closely than 1 of a hundred Senators. He
wants to chase the brass ring, that's fine, but don't bitch when people really want to know how he got to this point in your life.

Also, I said there were a lot of lawyers on capital hill, but I did not say civil, and I would venture to guess FEW have profited the way Edwards has. So basically, if you do not like my argument, give me a list of 1)CIVIL lawyers 2)who have made their fortune through litigation and 3)have run for VP or POTUS. Any other comparison is apples and oranges.

THOSE are the folks that Edwards made the lion's share of his money by defeating in lawsuits:  Corporations that created defective products that resulted in horribly mutilated children.  And Doctors who's negligence was found to cause Cerebral Palsy in children.  Most American citizens would not consider these cases to be wrongfully brought, and would wish for our legal system to be ever vigilant against this type of negligence that results in crippling injuries to infants.

And the reason that Edwards made so much money is that he was highly competent at his job.  I think it's high time that America had someone in office who had a proven record of success at his job without lobbying or peddling influence in Government affairs (Cheney's most successful skill).
