Finally some "good news" from this administration...

Van Jones has announced: "I quit".

I'm sure another "crony" will be put in place quickly, but at least this racist czar is history.

The funniest comment on his way out the door was: "On the eve of historic fights for health care and clean energy, opponents of reform have mounted a vicious smear campaign against me," Jones said in his resignation statement. "They are using lies and distortions to distract and divide."

Gee...he must have been talking about this administration right???  IMO: The only people around here that I see who are trying to "divide and conquer" is the Democratic Party.

It is so typical that they blame it on lies.

The opponents said his name was on the petition.  It was.  The truth.

He raised a question of whether he signed it, and the people who circulated the petition said they verified most signatures. So he was probably the one telling a lie.

Then the opponents find speeches he made.  They didn't report it. The posted videos.  NO lies there.

And instead of saying, "I was wrong for past remarks," he says, "Lies and distractions."

The only distraction is him saying it was a lie.

"GOVT BIG ENOUGH TO GIVE YOU EVERYTHING YOU NEED..Is big enough to take EVERYTHING you have.."

Those words are as true now as they ever were, and even more applicable. That "nutjob" is making much more sense than you.

on government spending but during the Bush years that for most part was rhetoric.  In other words, its ok to bailout corporation but regular people or small business its big government.

Perhaps you have never depended on government for anything but many these anti government people are on or have taken government programs

At least you were critical of Bush spending, the rest on this board I can't say as much

GaGambler805 reads

We got the worst of both worlds with Bush. He sucked up to the religious right, but spent money as quickly as any Democrat with the probable exception of Obama.

And you are correct, I have never taken any Gevernment money with the obvious exception of the benefits that we all reap from living in a civilized society, and for that I pay much more than my fair share.

kerrakles885 reads

GOVERNMENT you loathe every day. The largest bureaucracy known as the department homeland security was created during whose admin?

Just unthoughtful crap.

Understand the fact that we live in democracy with liberties curtailed, politics laden with scare mongering, discussions without civility, yelling at each other without considering facts, partisans providing misinformation and disinformation, religious extremism controlling politicians and their followers and everything Obama does is a step towards socialism. When you really look at the crap, we now have dysfunctional democracy as was in 16, 17, 18 century Europe where the democracy, freedom and liberty matured during 19th century specifically after the WW II with our help.

We are going backwards that should be the concern not getting one over the other!

GaGambler2234 reads

I can point out dozens of issues where I break with the GOP, not the least of which are pieces of legislation like the "Patriot Act" and the further empowering of the "religious right"

I just don't want to jump from one extreme to the other. Shoving "health care reform" down our throats before weighing the costs, or even reading the bill is no different than having the Patriot Act rammed down our collective throats.

I am glad the "far right wing" has lost much of their power, but I don't want them replace by the "far left wing"

What really surprises me is the fact that so many people claim to be fiscally conservative and socially liberal yet I find almost no politicians that fit that bill. I guess gridlock is the best we can hope for, and FWIW I went on record in 2008 as my vote for McCain was a vote for gridlock and nothing more.

RightwingUnderground1367 reads

When it passed the Senate only ONE Democrat opposed it, Feingold WI. And even HE was allowed to offer several amendments, most of which passed.

After 9/11, everyone in Congress was in agreement that steps had to be taken  to protect America.  Yet, the Dems still will find anything they can to bash President Bush.  You'd think they would get over it, but nah, they don't know what else to do. Especially now that their President is the one catching all the heat.

It comes with the territory.  I shudder to think what our country would have looked like post 9/11 had former Vice President Gore been elected in 2000.

The problem is not that government is big. US citizens hand over all of their political power to a gang of what has historically been a gang of liars and thieves whose main alliance is with the capitalist class. So the problem is not big government at all. The problem is a general lack of participation in the political process by the average US citizen.

I saw that coming a mile away after Jones said he did not know he signed a petition then it was found out the organizer of the movement personally called each one of the signers and confirmed their support :)

I think they verified the list of "Top 100 Important People". A list which they separately published.

Good call Tim. I now think that his his appointment was a tactical move by Obama.

Timbow650 reads

It was an easy call ;) Not sure what you mean by his appointment was a tactical move ?

I think political appointees are the result of  internal executive branch politics. The Jones appointment could have been to appease
some political pressure group that Obama owed a favor to.

Timbow704 reads

I hope more backfire then  but I am seeing birds of a feather  flock together .

How many assholes Republican (Van Jones description of Republican that RWU called Vile) that Bush left on his staff, despite call for dismisals, do I need to name them.  Only when they were charged with serious crines did they resign.

I noticed the biggest GOP echo chambr noise come when Obama appoints a minority to his cabinet or position in administration.  I thinking of the Public Enemy song when I see the reaction

But Obama keeps bending to the extreme right wing to placate the midddle.  He will lose the left of his party.  Playing right to the hands of the GOP for 2012.

GaGambler1332 reads

Just how the fuck do you think that Obama is going to lose "the left of his party"? He is further left than Chvaez.

It really is a shame that those Republicans had to stoop to using Van Jones own words to discredit him, The nerve of them, using the truth.

At one point you came across as reasonable, now you sound every bit as racist as our current POTUS and his cunt wife.

bcause you will get oin the General board and say how you do not call women cunts.  Is your hate really necessary?

But I am going to respond to a real post because you  are acting like the very extremist you decry on this board.

GaGambler1114 reads

Guess what? She is one. I also called Michelle Obama not only a cunt, but a racist cunt. Guess what? She is one as well.

I just called you and our current POTUS racists, and Obama aside and speaking directly to you, your posts as of late have been extremely racist. I stand by my words, and there is nothing extremist about them.

I do hate racists, of all colors especially when they use color of authority to further their racism. Obama is certainly guilty of this throughout his career and his wife's words speak for themeselves.

If you have no response, I not only understand, but I am not a bit surprised.

and it was another case when you called someone a cunt but to your other point.  Race have been an issue on this board so I respond - you call it racist that your opinion.  Unlike Txtransplant and others you do not intimidate me.

GaGambler814 reads

You revel in it. Not to mention the fact that you look for it where it doesn't exist yet deny it when it applies to you.

As to intimidation, the only way anyone here could be intimidated is if there arguments are on very shaky ground, as are yours.

I rarely mention race.  You are just being fucking argumentive to prove a point....I am going to end this thread unless you got a real point.

GaGambler1027 reads

When you first came on this board you sounded like "Conroyrevisited" after you were here for a while you seemed to balance out quite a bit and even seemed quite reasonable at times even though we usually disagreed. As of late, you seem to be falling back into old habits and race seems to be one of those topics that you seem to revel in.

I hope you go back to being the "slightly left of center" Wizard that I enjoyed disagreeing with. In the meantime, I calls them as I sees them.

You are not the first to go down this road around here. It wasn't that long ago that Kerakles was a slightly left of center, rather reasonable contributer here. Today he is as bitter and hateful as any poster that has ever posted. The man's hatred for anything Republican goes beyond partisan politics. I'd hate for you to go down that same road.

because the center has moved and the nutjobs are controlling the debate.  But when you resort to calling Obama a bastard and his wife a cunt, what does that prove?  Try going on a leftist board and post in the center and instead of argument you get name calling and see how "center" you remain.

I sounded like Conray when I came because instead of debating people like Source only wanted to call names and trade insults.  I can do that too but this board have been a rightwing lovefest since August

GaGambler1027 reads

I have seen a huge shift to the left in the last few months. Contrary to your opinion this board is far from a "rightwing lovefest". As an example six of the top ten posters over the last thirty days are definite lefties.

If some of the aliases are unfamiliar  to you Stamina4hours is Ella Fant (as left wing as you can get) and ed is of course RWU a rightie. Even if you want to call Dncphil and I righties,0( I will stipulate as to RWU and Pitchingwedge you have to admit that six of the top ten are firmly in the liberal camp.

You, like Moosie consider anyone right of Pelosi to be a "far right winger" which simply isn't true.

tjrevisted749 reads

Even though I have never even called the pesident a blackman, Im sure he thinks I dont like him cause he is black, and wizard really believes this, ABOUT ALL OF US..That arent lock-stepping with Chairman O

what do I care what you think.  You only parrot rght wing talking points without even a hint of analytical thinking.  I grew up with racist and I've been to three town hall meetings and believe me I heard the N word several times when the name Obama was mentioned. Unless my ea were lieing to me, a lot oif these trailer park trash at the toen hall are spawns of those who lynched blacks especially uppity ones like Obama a generation ago.

So spare me the racist remark because I know better.

Van Jones signed a petition circulated by Truthers.  He called people ass holes.  He had a ton of other bagage not related to race or minority.

If you think that Obama should keep himself surrounded by that type of person in order to win the election, I hope he listens to your advice.

The vast majority think Truthers are nuts.  Getting rid of that type of person placates the majority. Not "the extreme right wing."

Truthers like Birthers of other exreme thinkers have nn place in "official" government.  Even Bush did not appoint somone like Rush to office.

But the earlier debate revisited the Rev Wright debate and I could not figure out why - until I found out that Van Jones was black A coincidence?

I had no idea that Van Jones was black until this morning....so the revisit Rev Wright only suggest race baiting, because to my knowledge that the only connecting fact between the three is race.

Par for the course GG. Blacks are NEVER responsible for any wrong doing. If they did wrong its bc of evil whites and opprerssion of 150 yrs ago. And if you are a white person sick of dealing with black criminals you're really just a marginalized white person who feels lesser and needs to strike out. Its old boring and stupid. Its liberalism.

I was only repeating shit YOU have said. Your own words bother you?  Takin my ass back down to the corner now.  Lmao.

It is not because he and Wright are black.

It is because they both represent a fringe that most people find offensive.

Obama cannot surround himself with offensive people and hope to keep the middle ground.

However, this is why Wright was relevant "even then."

Perhaps the most important thing a president does is select the people around him.  Obama, Bush, Clinton, Lincoln, and Jefferson could not fix the economy, fight terrorism, manage the economy stupid, fight Jeff Davis, or explore the west by themselves.

It was who they appointed.

Because Obama was new on the scene in 2008, it was legit to ask, "What type of people does he associate with."  There was little way to judge him beyond that.

There are a range of people to enourmous to contemplate. If there is a pattern to the choices of who you associate with, it says a lot about you.

Have to agree with you Phil. Jones was obliviously politically compromised and he made matters worse by lying about his past.
I question the need for a "green Jobs" czar. I think  Jones's appointment was a political maneuver driven by internal politics within the Obama administration.

RightwingUnderground2100 reads

Someone would play the race card regarding the opposition to Van Jones, but of course I had forgotten about you.

cannot be appointed to a public office because of that person's past political beliefs. Where is the political freedom that is cherished so fervently in the US?

I guess this is proof that capitalism's greatest fear is communist thought. Just the hint of a communist agenda sends the capitalist cowards scurrying like cockroaches.

GaGambler1341 reads

Most of us have fought against all of our lives, succssfully I might add.

I would never vote for anyone who had ever voiced a pro communist viewpoint. I would consider to be Anti American as their viewpoints would be completely contrary to the very foundation of this country.

You are free to have all the political beliefs that you want, I(we) are equally free to vote either for or against you because of those beliefs. No offense Charlie, but I wouldn't vote for you if you were running against Michelle Obama, the reason? You are a communist, I don't believe in Communism, case closed.

I can't hold public office in the US because the US is based on capitalist civil law. I follow that law but I would be lying if I swore to uphold it.

GaG are you saying that you would rather vote for a lying cunt than an honest communist?  WTF , you have been voting for lying cunts for all of these years why stop now? LOL

GaGambler1737 reads

unless it was to vote her the first person to be sent to another galaxy.

My point is "Capitalists" like me don't "scurry like cockroaches" Capitalists have fought the Communists and won decisively. Your claims to the contrary don't change that, nor does your claim that to reject a concept is to somehow be afraid of it.

I take it that you think that the cold war was about the rejection of a claim? BTW in  theory you are not a capitalist unless you actually own some oil drilling platforms or hold some oil leases. Capitalists have won most wars with communism, but communism is a like a cancer that keeps coming back. Even today after trillions have been spent to eradicate  it , communism still exists and is continuing to grow.

GaGambler1575 reads

and no I do not own any drilling platforms, but I am proud to say that I own several thousand acres of oil leases. My efforts and the fruits of my labor and my capital contribute greatly to the benefit of this country, can you honestly make the same claim?

I actually have less than 100 employees and  some assets. I wouldn't say that I am a capitalist primarily because all of my enterprises are in the services sector of the economy.

Cockroach communism, hmmm that has a nice sound  to it.
However , I don't know enough about the social structure of cockroaches to agree that they are analogous to communists.

GaGambler1034 reads

Maybe you are just a "Commie of convenience" except where it comes to your own "ill gotten" gains? lol

Wish I could continue this conversation, but I have cervezas to drink and chicas to fuck. I hope you guys are having half the fun I am this weekend. Seeya

RightwingUnderground1624 reads

You've stumbled into the real problem here. The blame for all this rests clearly with BHO. He is the one that has elevated all of these "advisors" to the level of a Pseudo Public Office. If Jones was simply an advisor (answerable to no one other than POTUS), then most likely we would all be none the wiser. But when he was elevated to this bastardization level of public official then yes, his views and history can and do matter. True public officials in cabinet level posts receive Senate hearings or review and consent (approval).

Since the creation of a Czar seeks and end run, obfuscation of the “Public Approval Process” then it’s only natural that something like this would happen.

BTW, it’s also perfectly OK for me to not want any self avowed Communists or un-Americans in “public office”.

I usually consider political appointees  public officials since they influence public policy and that policy may dictate how public money is spent. I personally detest the creation of czars because of the reason that you gave. But in order for the US government to function POTUS must have people to work with the capitalist class that aren't obviously being paid by the capitalists. I think that the czar position is a way for POTUS to work with lobbyists without
there being a direct link to the POTUS.

Would communists allow freedom of expression or thought? History says NO. I rest my case.
