So us DC people have a traffic and weather news radio station that we all rely on. WTOP. If you remember the Presidential debate, WTOP got named dropped a few times because Trump talked about Dems supporting partial birth abortion. Dems said it was a lie, but it was WTOP that hosted our former Dem governor supporting exactly that on a call in show called Ask The Governor.
Most DC workers listen to WTOP on our commute. Traffic updates ever 10 minutes comes in handy. I used to love to just leave it on in the morning and listen to the news. The main news for WTOP is CBS News Radio, and for nearly a decade now it’s become unlistenable. I’d listen to the traffic and weather and immediately turn it off because the over the top Democrat lies and propaganda had become unbearable. But today I said what the hell and turned it on. And wonder oh wonder it’s like they were trying to report the news again. Sure, it sounded like they were holding back their bias and reporting the news like keystone cops barely avoiding screwing things up, but at least they were trying. And we just got straight news stories. It was like seeing an old friend again after a decade when you’d heard they kicked the bucket. Just amazing.
You might want to look into a cell phone and something called GPS. lol. Havent needed or wanted a traffic update from a radio station in almost a decade bro. Keep up with the rest of us. lol.
I use Waze for basic nav but turn on my local radio news and get their traffic reports. It just helps augment the nav and keep me away from traffic jams.
Washington DC traffic ranks top 3 in the nation worst traffic annually. WTOP’s traffic reports are a staple in this market. I don’t know how many times WTOP has reported on protesters like Code Pink blocking the 14th Street Bridge has saved me a shit load of time driving downtown. GPS apps aren’t that quick and nimble.
Back in the day, after work one afternoon I was driving home from southwest Minneapolis to the northeast metro. That was back before I had cell data or Google maps. Suddenly on the radio they announced the freeway bridge over the Mississippi river in downtown Minneapolis had just collapsed. I believe I had already decided not to take that route. But had crossed it in the morning. I did have a cell phone though so immediately started calling relatives to say I wasn't on the bridge.
