I previously posted about "giving credit where credit is due", re: Trump policies. I used as examples catastrophes that could benefit US trade (e.g., if there was a huge failure of soy bean crops in South America, forcing Chinese importers back to US suppliers).  Trump's failed policy to protect US trade is tariffs (the trade deficit has gone UP by $100 billion). Catastrophes could "trump" Trump tariffs and rescue US suppliers but Trump would not deserve any credit for that.

China is bearing the brunt of the CV outbreak, thus far. China has quarantined at least 15 cities.

Wuhan, China, and at least 15 other cities have been quarantined as China attempts to halt the spread of the coronavirus. That's about 50 million people on lockdown.
.
CV will probably cost China tens or hundreds of billions of $ in health care costs, lost productivity, lost exports, lost tourism, etc..
.
On the other hand, it will also refocus attention on some key US industries that have been overly reliant on sourcing from China. Some of them might bring some manufacturing back to the US.  This was not Trump's plan to bring back manufacturing jobs to the US. Trump's plan was to bully companies (e.g., Harley-Davidson, Ford, Carrier Air Conditioner (that eventually closed the factory and sent production to Mexico anyway), etc.) or to lie about it ("[W]e didn’t have a new mill built in 30 years, and now we have many of them going up.").

It was never Trump's plan to carry out biological warfare on China to shut down Chinese manufacturing and bring some of those jobs back to the US. ... or was it?
.
I think that the "CV effect" will bring some jobs back to the US, especially for national security reasons (e.g., essential drug manufacturing). I think that Trump will claim credit for that. However, as I said about giving credit where it is due, I would not give Trump credit for a CV pandemic that lights a fire under some key industries that will then bring those jobs back Stateside.

trump blames the dems, ok. If that works for him. Some call the CV not serious, it's like the flu...ok I see the talking points. But this administration hasn't got in front of this virus to lead. Maybe trump isn't the right fit for this moment, this is who he is. But when will this hit home? My guess is when the unemployment rate creeps up to 3.8, 4.0....?
Companies that import from China are planning a what if scenario if this continues, and layoffs are on the table, These companies.will soon have empty warehouses, orders won't be filled, stores won't have product....You get the ideal.
We haven't pulled the trigger but this ideal was being tossed around....Just something to think about.

So Trump wanted to bring manufacturing back to the US.  So he instituted tariffs.  Now the manufacturing output of China is reduce (temporarily?) due to the flu outbreak. So the US would need to bring more manufacturing online to make up for the lost output from China.

Hey wait a minute, Trump was on that years ago.

You gonna pay the price to have it done here?$$$$$$$$$......Harley, Corrier all had the right ideal, they left the USA. Let's face it, USA can't compete with the China,Vietnam, and India just to name a few in the labor force. Manufacturing wasn't coming back, never did...sorry and never will.
