Isn't it strange how the Don Imus controversy has dominated the news for so many days, yet Ann Coulter's offensive "faggot" remark about John Edwards had a shelf-life of about two days and then it disappeared.  I beieve the Imus controversy is being stoked by the far right rightwing zealots who have always shown remarkable skill at generating grassroots protests.  The right wing is keeping the Imus controversy alive to distract from the deepening and hopeless morass in Iraq and the egregious behavior of Alberto, Dickie, and the rest of the Bush pond scum.

Imus's comment was purely race-based and wasn't supported by corresponding actions...

But you see, and i'm betting that you do, as far as I was concerned, the story was the double-standard manifested by DI's critics as much, if not more, the the mindless verbiage to which DI gave expression.

That I think was the source of the white guy anger re DI's demise.  And I definitely do not want to reopen this can of worms.

BTW, I think we're more in slow and painful and inexorable decline as opposed to facing "impending extinction."  But reasonable persons can diasagree on this point.
