THE SOUND OF SILENCE IN AMERICA
The quiet destruction of America from with-in!

by M. M. Reid

America has until recently been a land that offered opportunity and promoted hard work. Now it penalizes success, encourages dependency among the slothful and subsidizes failure.

Our independent public school system has been made a disgrace because of Federal money, intervention, and control. (American schools were once the envy of the rest of the world, now they are inadequate and failures.)

“Class Warfare” is promoted, people are attacked and ridiculed, because they strive to do better for themselves and their family. "Class Warfare" is used to divide people and create dissension and conflict.

“Guilt Trips” are laid on people by the media for who they are, what they believe, and what they want for their family.

The family unit is attacked by the promotion of single parents and alternate “Lifestyles“.. (welfare divides parents?)

Special “Hate Crimes” based on race only create more division and hate, the laws of the land are for everyone, not a selected groups of people.

Racial preferences and affirmative action are racist by nature and cause dissension among the races!

The tobacco industry and Hollywood promote smoking as a cool and natural thing.

The liquor industry and its supporters make drinking appealing to young people.

The music industry denigrates of women and promotes violence.

Hollywood and TV net works promotes promiscuous sex habits, decadent and lewd behavior and is referred to as “People just having a great time!”

The media defends and promotes homosexuality.

Love of country and patriotism is belittled and scorned.

Our moral heritage in America is ridiculed.

Our cultural heritage and history is belittled and maligned.

Our founding Fathers are called “Dead Persons”, therefore their ideas are worthless.

America and its ideals were founded on our belief in GOD! yet;...

Our Christian values are mocked and said not to pertain to our country anymore.

Separation of church and state, does not mean separation of GOD and country!

We need to learn more about those who promote the above ideas and policies and find out their motives, then we will know who and why America is being destroyed from with-in.

- penalizes success?  who has ever been fired for working too hard or for being too successful?

Our independent public school system has been made a disgrace because of Federal money, intervention, and control. (American schools were once the envy of the rest of the world, now they are inadequate and failures.)
- see "No Child Left Behind" Act - lol.  Seriously, education should be controlled more at the local level, so whith this I can somewhat agree.

“Class Warfare” is promoted, people are attacked and ridiculed, because they strive to do better for themselves and their family. "Class Warfare" is used to divide people and create dissension and conflict.
- class warfare in the U.S.????  Are you high????  There is a story of starving french peasants in the middle ages that stormed their lords castle, killed his kids and raped his wife in front of him.  then the whole family was beheaded.  THAT, is class warfare.  making rich people pay a few extra percentage points in taxes is NOT class warfare.

“Guilt Trips” are laid on people by the media for who they are, what they believe, and what they want for their family.
- I agree that FOX "News" hates gays.

The family unit is attacked by the promotion of single parents and alternate “Lifestyles“.. (welfare divides parents?)
- I don't know anyone that "promotes" being a single parent.  Its not an easy job - just ask someone who is one.

Special “Hate Crimes” based on race only create more division and hate, the laws of the land are for everyone, not a selected groups of people.
- I agree, "hate crimes" as a designation should be unnecessary.

Racial preferences and affirmative action are racist by nature and cause dissension among the races!
- sticky topic that I "Kerry" (flip-flop) on all the time.

The tobacco industry and Hollywood promote smoking as a cool and natural thing.
- also true.  but can't libertarians (like this author) apply their virtues of self reliance and shun these temptations???

The liquor industry and its supporters make drinking appealing to young people.
- I'm drunk right now.

The music industry denigrates of women and promotes violence.
- not Barry White!!!!  or Barry Manilow for that matter.  But serioulsy, rap music has gone from being a reflection of society to an negative influence.

Hollywood and TV net works promotes promiscuous sex habits, decadent and lewd behavior and is referred to as “People just having a great time!”
- man, I love bangin' escorts.

The media defends and promotes homosexuality.
- "promotes" homosexuality????  are you kidding?  people are beginning to accept them in public - something that should've been done years ago.  gay people are born that way, so leave them alone.  if guys kissing makes you feel icky, its YOUR problem - no one elses.

Love of country and patriotism is belittled and scorned.
- people can't seem to tell the difference between patriotism and nationalism.  Until you do, stop using the word patriotism incorrectly.

Our moral heritage in America is ridiculed.
- then go join the fucking Omish if you like our "moral heritage" so much.  what the hell does "moral heritage" mean anyway?  its a catch phrase that makes uneducated people feel good.

Our cultural heritage and history is belittled and maligned.
- we have some dark spots on our country's historical record and there's nothing we can do about it - slavery, etc.  And Columbus was a fuckin' prick.  Sorry, thats the way it is/was.  Quit viewing history from the perspective of a fourth grader!!!!

Our founding Fathers are called “Dead Persons”, therefore their ideas are worthless.
- news flash: they ARE dead.  And until you read most of their writings, quit talking about them like you have direct line to them in the afterlife, and thus can interpret anything you dream up as the will of the founding fathers.  By the way, a lot of the "founding fathers" didn't agree with each other!!!!!!

America and its ideals were founded on our belief in GOD! yet;...
- speaking of the founding fathers, did you know some of them were athiests????

Our Christian values are mocked and said not to pertain to our country anymore.
- fuck you.

Separation of church and state, does not mean separation of GOD and country!
- see above response.

We need to learn more about those who promote the above ideas and policies and find out their motives, then we will know who and why America is being destroyed from with-in.
- but instead of actually talking with these people, they will sit glued in front of the TV and radio and beleive what others tell them to beleive (Rush, O'Riley, etc.)

Who are the Omish? Haven't heard of that religion before, do they worship in Orgasm?

As for Columbus, wasn't he Italian? And didn't he land somehwere near Hispaniola? Oh yea, I remember, he was sick on July 4, 1776 and couldn't sign the Declaration of Independence.

If you're such a Libertarian, why are you so offended by reference to God and the palce that religion had in the origins of this nation. Sounds a wee bit intolerant to me.

Well, to paraphrase your response to a couple questions, fuck YOU bananajoe.

First, my mistake.....its "Amish".  I have a tendency not to check my spelling on these posts.  If we're so critcal of spelling here, what the hell is a "palce"??????

Second, I don't know what the hell you are getting at about Columbus, but the point was that this "rich moral and cultural history" that the author writes about only looks that way from the view of a elementry school text book.  The point about Columbus was meant to illustrate that sometimes we look at history through rose colored glasses.  I didn't know historical references had to be limited to the founding fathers.

Third, I never said "I" was a libertarian, but it is clear the author is in many ways.  You've completely lost me on the connection between religion and being libertarian.

Fourth, I never directed any negative comments to the original poster or anyone else.  In fact, in some ways I agree with the author, which I said in my post.  My "fuck you" response comes from when people try and bring their religion into my life under the guise of the "the country" and founding fathers, and to that I will always say "fuck you".  If you're religion works for you, fine, but keep it away from me.

So, maybe you should reread my post a little more carefully, and realize it was meant to be a somewhat critical and a little tongue-n-cheek.

Finally, I expect an apology for the last line of your response.

I did read your response, and here's how it was interpreted:

The ORIGINAL post was a quoted article from another source. YOU elected to insert YOUR editorial responses into the text. Therefore, your responses are the subject of my last post.

First of all, the overall tone of your post was mean spirited and nasty.  Second, and here's the copy from your post:

"Our cultural heritage and history is belittled and maligned.
- we have some dark spots on our country's historical record and there's nothing we can do about it - slavery, etc.  And Columbus was a fuckin' prick.  Sorry, thats the way it is/was.  Quit viewing history from the perspective of a fourth grader!!!!
"
"Columbus was a fuckin' prick" That's where the Columbus response came from. If you want to through American history into the response and include Columbus, I just reminded you that Columbus wasn't part of the original deal.

These next two are my favorites:
"
Our Christian values are mocked and said not to pertain to our country anymore.
- fuck you.

Separation of church and state, does not mean separation of GOD and country!
- see above response.
"

Whether you were saying fuck you to the original author, or the person who posted on the board, the arrogance in your attitude was deserving of my response.

So I stand by my final comment, when I read YOUR responses, I still said F you.

well I see that you feel you are somehow the protectorate for people in this country that feel that religion should play a greater role in people's lives....otherwise you wouldn't have been offended by my response.  So if you think that I should embrace your religious values, I will give you the same pointed response you have now twice given me:  FUCK YOU.  I don't need or want your religion, and I have never asked for it.

Second, learn how to analyze the things in the original post.

"Separation of church and state, does not mean separation of GOD and country!"

What is the difference?  How can we separate the "state" and the "country"?  They are the one in the same.  Is God ever mentioned in the constitution?  No. have you ever read the first amendment?  Probably not.  Just because it says "In God We Trust" on money, that doesn't mean there is a wholesale endorsement of Christianity by the government.  Again, try reading the first amendment.

Thanks for the reminder that Columbus wasn't a founding father.  You have a keen eye for the obvious.  While you busy patting yourself on the back for thinking you've caught me on a technicality about Columbus as a founding father (although he is in fact part of our history, which is what that particular bullet point was about - reread it and you'll see), you still haven't (or can't) provide anything bordering on insightful that addresses this authors confusion that people don't look at histroy with nothing but pure nostalgia.

Basically, you site my "attitude" as deserving of your response.  As I said, my response my half heartedly done tongue in cheek, so if it upset you this much then you're just being a baby.  You have provided zero content here that has caused anyone to think about anything.  You apparently relish the role of failed fact checker and the chivalry you feel from standing up for the author of the original article against my "nasty words".  Isn't it ironic that your response was reduced to nasty words of your own????

In closing, I'm glad your favorite of my responses were the ones about religion....they are my favorites too!  And its too bad you are such a baby about this - next time try "thinking" about things and maybe I'll read and give you some feedback on your future posts - just to help you out.  So, even though I'm tempted to tell you to go fuck yourself - I'm not going to.  I will wish you well and hope see some insightful posts from you in the future.

ps. don't bother respoding as I will not read it.  I've got little time to continue this pissing match with you, and it seems that by your response to my response to you, that your goal is to keep insulting me even though I have said nothing bad to you.

However, in closing, I agree.

Engaging you in a battle of wits is pointless, you have no ammunition.

Your mere presence is insult enough.

Your responses and half-assed attempts at rebuttal are as childish as you accuse me of.

Quit playing with daddy's computer before they spank your ass and send you to bed without supper.

but he does have some validity.

We've devolved into a nation of "me first" and "the hell with society".

It's all about the individual, with a loss of focus on the community.

Jefferson believed in a striking a balance between protecting the individualist from the opression of mob mentality, yet he still required the individual to respect the mob's rights as well.

Kinda tough to see any of that rational thinking nowadays. We've bastardized the concepst of what what is opression into what offends or inconveniences us, and use logical fallacies to rationalize boorish and antisocial behavior.

We've twisted the concept of "injury" into a mental nightmare. If someone calls me a name, I'm so devastated that I must sue anyone and everyone-because I have been "injured".

I envision the day soon when we'll have attorneys and the ACLU hanging out in school playgrounds, waiting for a couple kids to start a shouting match. Then, of course, the families will sue each other, the school, and the city & state the school is located in. "Poor Johnny was so traumatized at being called aname in the third grade, how will he EVER get into Stanford or MIT and get his PhD in.........{blah, blah, blah}"

... that comes to my mind when I read FT's post.  The world is changing, things are going to hell in a handbasket, traditional values are ignored, kids no longer obey their parents, ...  It results in the fundamentalist Islamic movements in the middle east and symmetric conservative movements in the US that often have religious overtones.

The world is changing, The balance between individualism and community values continues to swing one way or the other with little stability,

What bothers me most about this (and really saddens me) is that people who share FTs sensibility are like the King standing on the shore and commanding the waves to stand still.

We live in interesting times.  Lets look, learn, appreciate, and enjoy the flow.

Harry

To be truthful Harry, what i posted, i read on a yahoo message board. It hit home enough to want to repost it her on TER just to make people think. So yes, i do believe. I want a decent and kind world. I believe that post touches on some of the barriers that we face in America, today...
Boy did it bring a hateful response by one member of the tribe. His f-bombs regarding Christianity should really give insite to how that group really feels about religious tolerance...Or anything remotely resembling Christian Values...
