I'm betting their goal was to just bait DJT into another Twitter storm because the cold open wasn't at all funny, quite the opposite. SNL does know that good comedy needs to be based on a minimum element of truth. Of course there's always fake truth.

Come on, Alec, you're a good actor! You got to know when to hold them and you got to know when to fold them or you'd look stupid. To me last couple of times he played Trump he looked really stupid. I thought he was really great first 3 times. He really began losing me Saturday before the election and seem to just keep on deteriorating. He should just give Trump to some member of the SNL cast and move on.
... you also got to give credit for some of the brilliant work they did from the primaries to the post-election opening (with a brilliant homage to Leonard Cohen in the process).
Personally, I thought Darrell Hammond from SNL nails it, and Jimmy Fallon also does a killer impression, though he comes up short in this video.
They did do some great work and I thought was right on point and hilarious. It's just that late Baldwin impressions I thought projected some energy that I found unwatchable.
I always thought Jimmy Fallon's impressions of Trump were good but his writing was superb.
As for Kellyanne, ANYONE looks better.
