This is going to be a mess for a while!

What’s going to happen to the Russian bases there?  Is Iran going to step into the vacuum?

Is Isis going to take over a country?

This douchebag used chemical weapons against his own people. Hopefully he'll be chocking on some chlorine soon, if not already.

Except that, yes, it's "going to be a mess for a while."
That said: if you knew how to read and do a search you'd know Russia pulled all its ships from its Tartus base days ago.
What happens next to those bases is up in the air according to the article below.
But, no, Iran is not going to "step into the vacuum" because its client Hezbollah has been neutered by Israel and Iran is cutting its loses.
US troops remain in Syria to combat ISIS, which your god supposedly defeated years ago.
Bottom line: both Russia and Iran have suffered a huge blow but what comes next is unknowable.
One thing's for sure: it's a good day for the US and Israel.

Yes, Lost is correct that it’s going to be a mess for a while. And while ISIS is unlikely to benefit from Assad’s demise, the HTS alliance that swept through Aleppo into Damascus is primarily a Sunni Islamist entity, so the ethnic and religious minorities that Assad had protected might be in some serious trouble.

I saw a post that suggested CIA director Burns should be over there. Apparently the Russians are negotiating with other players over there in an attempt to retain some of  military presence in the region, a naval base being key. Will be interesting to see how this plays out.

But it's too soon to know how this will play out.  The HTS alliance is a VERY mixed group that includes all stripes of Islamists. They have been making all the right noises about being more tolerant but only time will tell and skepticism is warranted.
Russia and Iran will be reaching out to them to try to salvage their positions. But with this many players and their checkered history, chaos is the most likely result.
Everyone should hope they are able to put together a stable, rational government but the odds are long. If they can do it there are millions of Syrian refugees, many in Europe, who will be happy to return home, which will take a lot of pressure of European society.

Though I'd be perfectly happy if his plane crashed.
PS: various bloggers report that hundreds, if not thousands of Russian troops and civilians are trapped in Syria, left behind in Russia's hasty withdrawal. The bases at Tartus and Lefkadia are lost. Russia now has no foothold in the Med.
