TPP is DOA, See Trump is bringing the country together already

Both Dems and Reps alike are/were against TPP. Come to think of it, the only one I can think of that was for TPP was Obama. Even Hillary backed off her support of TPP once she figured out how many people were against it

I just don't want that SOB touching the H1-B visa program, which he indirectly mentioned in that video. I need him to expand it. It has to do with the lack of homegrown college educated talent. If Trump puts significant caps on the program, or eliminates it completely, there will be unintended consequences, and I will take advantage of them. It's a bit personal for me.

In my (rather technical) field, the foreign talent is no better and sometimes worse than the US-born and educated talent. (I know of examples of cheaper foreign workers coming in to take over projects developed by highly skilled workers; they then proceeded to break or ruin those projects because of their lack of specialized training.)

Depending on the country of origin, they have grown up knowing how to "work the system" better than US-born and raised schmoes who think that we are a meritocracy. You do not survive or do well in some Eastern Euro, Middle Eastern or Asian countries unless you know how to manipulate to your advantage. Getting a visa even rewards system-manipulation skills more than technical knowledge or technical skills!

The glut of talent, domestic supplemented by foreign, keeps salaries down and job security non-existent.

I say get rid of most H-1Bs altogether.

(What do you mean that you will take advantage of a reduction or change in the visa program?

My preference is for the work to be performed in the U.S. Unfortunately I have to compete for limited resources against a number of hi-tech Silicon Valley based companies. We do not produce enough home grown students with a STEM type degree. The idea of bringing foreigners  with advance degrees has a potential long term advantage. Since H1-B visas allow for someone to stay for 6 years, many buy homes, raise families, pay taxes, and apply for a green card. Not all, but some. I would think that would be an example of the benefits of immigration.

If Trump limits or terminates the H1=B visa program, what do you think I'm going to do. I prefer as many deals as possible get done in the U.S, but when my compensation is in jeopardy, I will look for alternatives, which I do today. Instead of the project being designed, developed and implemented in the U.S., a good percentage, or in some cases, 100% of a project can be done off-shore. The contract is also moved off-shore to a subsidiary. There is a cost advantage to the client, but there is also a tax disadvantage today to my P&L. I can go on, but I hope you understand what I'm saying.

Trump can easily soften on that issue without losing credibility because he has campaigned on "illegal" immigration, and H1-B visas are obviously legal. Now he might make it tougher for applicants from certain countries to get these coveted visas, but that still leaves a pretty big pool to pick from.

Trump railed against Mexico not sending "their best" The H1-B visa program does attract the best and brightest. I predict that program isn't going anywhere.

The TPP has been dead for months.  Both Trump and Clinton have been on record opposing it for at least that long.  So it was dead no matter who won.  Honestly, I'm not sure why you felt the need to post this unless you wanted to show your firm grasp of the obvious.

If you didn't get your news from the Daily Show you might realize that making it "official" is still news, even if we've all known it for months.

and it is ironic that only Obama seems to be for the deal. even Hillary had to run from it after seeing just how unpopular it was/is. It kind of reminds me of how Hillary AND Obama tried to take credit for Gay Marriage after being opposed to it for years. Hillary was a big supporter of TPP UNTIL she saw how opposed the voters were.

...the original plan was to ram TPP bill during the lame duck session, but that ain't happening anytime soon.

......had originally planned to ram TPP through during the lame duck session, but Trump's election upended those plans. Bill Clinton's support for NAFTA and Obama's support for TPP, IMHO, doomed HRC at the ballot box. Her electoral firewall in the rust belt crumbled.

seems BHO worked so hard to get what HE wanted. In doing so, during his 8 yrs in office, the Dem Party was decimated in every election but his. He's left the Party in shambles. Lost House seats, Senate seats, Gov's and State legislatures.  His use of the pen to go around Congress will end with Trump erasing them.....what's left in his legacy?  He'll keep talking it up for 4 yrs in attempt to re-write history.  First Pres to not leave office quietly.
