To you Republicans - who would you have preferred as a nominee?

Obviously if anyone has read my posts it's clear I'm a democrat.  And, to start things off, I'll freely admit I would've preferred to see Clinton as the nominee, as I think she stood a better chance of winning in the general election.

Without getting into a debate about why someone chooses to be a democrat, etc., I'm wondering who most of you would have preferred to see as the Republican nominee - because my guess is that most of you would not have first chosen McCain.

I think Liz Dole would have been a great choice.

Liz Dole are you nuts :) MAC is the only one that would ever have a chance with the perfect  storm aganist the Reps and Obama still might win . All else would not have had a chance and Palin  was the best pick for VP .
Even Willie Brown former mayor of SF said the Dems have not recovered and are still off message with her pick :)

I'll have to get back to you, but that's a great question, it should start a spirited debate, where you and MRB will be able to vanquish all comers with your profundities stolen from Michael Moore and Kos himself.

McCain is the only Republican that stood a chance in 2008. Anybody with half a brain knew this was the Democrat's election to lose. I had already resigned myself to four years of "The Hildabeast"

Now Palin would not have been my pick, I would have preferred someone with more stature and less a Jesus freak. Even with my personal reservations, I have to admit she was the perfect political pick. She has had the Dems back on their collective heels ever since she was selected.

Disclaimer: I am not a Republican, I don't really care for McCain, but there was no one else in either party that I could actually support. IMO McCain is not the lesser of "two" evils he is the lesser of many evils. I can't believe that out of a country of over 300 million people, this is the best we can do. That said, he is a thousand times better than Obama.

if I could have chosen someone to run against BO, one person comes to mind.  He has vast experience in leadership, understands Washington, and most of all has integrity.  Oh, BTW he's black.

Colin Powell

I wanted Guialliani to be President.  But that was never going to happen.  He was a terrible campaigner.
