2006 will depend upon how much distance Repub candidates put between themselves and the admin.
The nation leans a little right of center and neither party has picked up on the best strategy, play to the middle.
You want to win 2006, offer a reasonable candidate. Someone who might be more liberal than conservative, but who is perceived as not being a raving nutcase like Dean was. Same for the Repubs.
If the President's popularity continues to decline or stay low, Rep. candidates may start distancing themselves-since he isn't up for re-election and they don't need to support him as strongly.
Right now, someone with a shred of intellectual integrity would ahve to admit that 2006 is not ready to be called yet.
[[2006 will depend upon how much distance Repub candidates put between themselves and the admin.]]
I dunno how possible that is - apart from the saw about all politics being local. We know that Dubya's not running - who then? Dick "go fuck yourself" Cheney? I think the Republican stance generally depends on the logic of the war in Iraq, and if people lose confidence there, or war fever abates, then the GOP is gonna lose across the board.
Will the Dems look better? Who knows? This is not a party that speaks with a single voice.
[[nation leans a little right of center]]
The nation defines the center. To say that it leans right of center - what reference are you using? GOP logic?
[[and neither party has picked up on the best strategy, play to the middle.]] That's because the grassroots people who commit to politics fulltime are people who have an axe to grind. The swing voter comes around in election year, and all he finds to vote for are people who depend on the freaks who don't have real jobs and families.
You're right, it's between a balled-up GOP and disarrayed Democrats.
They really don't want to be in office when the country finally gags on the economic collapse, massive social instability and the international humiliation the Republicans have induced. It's now inevitable.
I think that if the GOP is going to have a future, it had better try to pass the ticking bomb that they've armed to Democrats. The Democrats would be best served to run, that is to run as far away from office as they can. They should do their best to lose while looking like they're trying to win.
If this isn't the Democratic strategy all along, they should make it their strategy now. Call it operation Gag Us With An Elephant.
I hope this message is just parody-- but it's now more like resignation.
they would actually have a good shot if they would put forth some moderate liberal, (Lieberman, etc). But the hard core left will have none of that!!! So they will wind up demanding that their candidates out liberal each other for the nomination, and by the time it is over tye will not have a snowballs chance in hell.
What are the odds of that? But if they can't, then it could spell the end of the neo-cons - people aren't going to have a lot of interest in Jesus if he doesn't deliver. Statistically speaking, you usually get better results if you base your decisions on facts instead of faith, and work on the problem, instead of praying about it. I can find any number of witch doctors with a better batting average than Pat Robertson - for that matter, Osama is clearly more competent than Robertson is.
but be assured they will not get you in the White House. Those arguments failed in 2004 and will be even older in 2008, but you just keep beating those dead horses and we will continue to enjoy our control of the White House.
