NEW YORK (CBS/AP) A Columbia University student accused of being part of one of the largest drug takedowns on a New York City college campus


The students were charged Tuesday with selling LSD-laced candy and other drugs at three fraternity houses and other residences on the Ivy League campus.


Tuition, fees, room and board at Columbia top $55,000 a year and during the semester-long undercover "Operation Ivy League" some of the defendants justified selling drugs as a way to afford college, officials said.


Coles and four other students, Harrison David, Adam Klein, Jose Stephen Perez and Michael Wymbs, were arrested at dawn on Tuesday at the prestigious school in upper Manhattan, in what authorities have called one of the largest drug takedowns on a New York City college campus in recent memory.


The operation was based on West 114th Street - Columbia's "fraternity row." Investigators said the defendants turned several frat houses into a virtual drug supermarket, reports CBS station WCBS.


Authorities said the investigation relied heavily on a youthful undercover officer who posed as a drug middleman for another college outside the city. Special Narcotics Prosecutor Bridget G. Brennan said the officer paid nearly $11,000 for 31 purchases of LSD, marijuana, cocaine, Ecstasy and prescription stimulants.



The students pleaded not guilty to multiple drug dealing charges alleging they were supplied by violent traffickers.

The five were to remain in custody until they could make bail ranging from $20,000 to $50,000 in cash.

Perverted country with "war on drugs" when millions of athletes, film stars and professional sport "celebrities" freely use drugs and then the politicians blame Mexico and Columbia.

I sold all kinds of stuff during various rounds of college, ranging from Fuller Brush to bomb-making manuals. Anything for a buck.

Well, at some point, I noticed that druggies were overall pretty fucking stupid. If they weren't stupid already, they were REALLY stupid when high. And on top of that they would pay good money just to fuck themselves up.

I wasn't really interested in getting into the dope business, but I was interested in making the money with plausible deniability.

So I went to my grampa's farm and collected a bunch of horse shit. I dehydrated it, pounded it, rehydrated it, washed it, dehydrated it again etc. until it didn't smell or look like shit anymore.

Then I packaged it in the little baggies commonly used for weed and added a bit of oregano.

I hit downtown in a place with a population of about 100k and started telling people all about the "Good Shit" I was selling. I never said dope, marijuana, grass or anything like that. I always called my product "good shit" and let others just assume.

It one point I was making about 1k/month (in the mid 1980s so that's like 5k/month now) selling good shit. People were raving about how great it was, telling their friends etc.

Well, since I was out in the open, it was just a matter of time before the cops caught up with me. I had to pay a civil fine of $25 for street vending without a license and the cops laughed their asses off.

Fools and their money are soon parted. I didn't feel I was doing anything wrong.

Just remember, next time you buy some "good shit" it might truly be ... shit.

Instead, I sold "good shit" and my product was as-advertised.

I paid a civil infraction for vending sans license. If the police could have charged me with a felony at that time and place, I'm sure they would have.

Dopers are an endless source of amusement and revenue.

I think this is one more reason why SOME drugs need to be legalized.  Dope dealing goes on at all kinds of levels, from the kids in the hood to the ivy league school, from the blue collar worker to the high level execs, from the high school group to the celebs.  It looks like there's a ton of money to be made, why not get some tax revenue from it.  Someone has to pay to the National Debt down, just put a clause in there that all drugs must be grown/produced in the US.
