When the Mayor or whoever stated it LIVE on TV right after the death.   You knew the death penalty was coming once they caught the person.   When you have any public figure killed publicly like Kirk, JFK, MLK, etc.  The death penalty if legal in that State should be sought.  IMHO.

Hopefully if this is the person and is convicted, he will get it.  Our justice system has become too soft on crime. Case in point is the murder of the Ukrainian woman by a guy who should have been locked up.... 14 prior arrests and some for aggravated assault.   It is a fact and people don't fear repercussions as they used too.

I'm generally opposed to the death penalty but there are some cases that are so extreme it is justified. This is one of them. Agree with Kirk or not, the murder of a free speech advocate, no matter if some of his speech seems extreme, is a blow at every one of us.

....Murderapolis used to be a relatively decent and safe place to be in most hours of the day or night.  No issues leaving a Vikes, Twins or T-Wolves game and staying around enjoying the hospitality that used to thrive downtown.

The recent shootings in the link happened in the last 12 hours.  That's now 5 "mass" shootings in the last 3 weeks.  While the term itself is highly subjective, it still illustrates what has changed in 5 or 6 years in large cities across the country.  It's not the broken window theory of how an area that is dilapidating gets exponentially worse in a short amount of time, but when you defund police and make them the enemy, this is what happens.  When you stop convicting and incarcerating criminals, this is what happens.  When you start to ignore misdemeanor offenses, it lowers the bar and it emboldens small time criminals to up their game and seek higher rewards for their bad behavior.

MPLS is still running a police skeleton crew for a police force, the city council is hostile to LE and the mayor has the spine of jello in standing up for his cops.  He's about to be replaced by a dude that is proud to be a socialist and at one time, called for the dissolving the MPD completely.   The first officer responding came from a Target store.  That should be a story in itself when a retailer has to have law enforcement present during open hours.  Some will say it should be the retailers problem but being they're the hometown brand, it would be a terrible look for them to close that store.  I'm guessing it's an agreement with the city to at least try and look like they want to help keep people safe.

The animals are now running the zoos across the country in every major city that is controlled by happy thought democratic politicians and many more people are suffering, and dying because of it.

Yep..... the latest shooting was at an "encampment" that the city refuses to take care of as well.

Don't forget about that problem that Minneapolis ignores.   Especially when the residents try to clean it up themselves but got in trouble by the city or ignored by the city a few years ago.    But another topic people will ignore.

Wont even bring up the soft on crime with the youth in Minneapolis and St. Paul and the repeat offenders.

Personally, I have always opposed the death penalty though I recognize that reasonable people can and do disagree on the issue. That said, it is not a debate I intend to engage in here.
.
The greater concern in a case like Kirk’s, as you rightly point out, is the chilling effect it can have on free speech in general, something deeply troubling in a country that takes pride in its constitutional protections.
.
While I strongly disagree with him on many issues, the First Amendment exists precisely to protect speech that some may find offensive or intolerable. That principle is fundamental to a free society like the U.S.
.
I cant remember who said it, and paraphrasing "I may not agree with what you are saying, but I will defend to the death your right to say it" has never been more true than this past week.

However millions of American men and woman did defend to the death...

AI Overview

The phrase "I may not agree with what you are saying, but I will defend to the death your right to say it" was written by Evelyn Beatrice Hall to summarize Voltaire's views on freedom of speech in her 1906 biography The Friends of Voltaire. While Voltaire held similar sentiments about free expression, he never actually said or wrote these exact words himself.

100% correct.   It is something man people on the right have stated over and over.   especially when they keep saying Hate speech is sadly a protected form of speech.

Ted Cruz just came out and stated this.   He and others have said this before.   The left and left media like to throw it in the rights face when ever an extreme right wing group (NAZI) say shit.   Then the media twists it to say.... see your a Nazi sympathizer.   There are many accounts where the media does this.    Yeah I know the right wing media does this too.

But it is more prevalent on the left because the KKK, Nazi's, proud boys, etc.  are the easiest ones to twist.... sad but true fact.    Think about it...... a person has a confederate flag and a Trump flag.... .people will automatically say... RACIST and Trump supporter..... why are you not denouncing everything that person says or do.  Correct???   Yet the person might just be a fan of Dukes of Hazard or Skynard.   See what I am getting at how "easy" it is to twist something without actual knowledge....just based off a picture.
