What I wish to get across to you is that maybe we simply can not. Because maybe it’s not a small inconsequential matter for some of us, maybe for some of us it means more than it does for others, for some of us it’s more a passion of our ideals and a commitment in our beliefs rather than simply a matter of being upset that our political party didn’t win.

Taking a look at the history of this nation, our founding fathers gave its people a mission, and were very specific and deliberate, "... to pledge our lives, our fortunes, our sacred honors to form a more perfect union ..." This was both a humble yet bold statement; Humble because they recognized as flawed human beings we will never be perfect, bold because it embodied the 18th century ideal of progress, that it can always be MORE perfect.

At the heart of it, is a very progressive ideology that we should never rest on our laurels, that while maybe never perfect we should at least always continue to strive for our government, our nation, and our people to be MORE perfect, better than it is, and never settle.

What does it mean to be an American in the 21st century world ? Well, one of the central idealologies behind the framers of the constitution was that a democracy is not just about majority rules, but about minority rights, it’s about striking a balance between empowering our government to do what’s right for our people, while at the same time preventing an abuse of power that takes away the rights of those same people.

When you ask us to stop, or get over it, you are actually asking us to give up our ideals our hopes and our desire to improve our government. When you ask us to stop, or get over it, you are asking us to forget our founding fathers, when you ask us to stop you are simply asking us to stop being Americans.

I for one will never stop.
