Unfortunately for liberals, leftists often co-opt liberal movements or positions, which then creates a perception that liberals and leftists are tied together. This frustrates liberals when they are attacked by conservatives using anti-leftist tropes.
That said, and back to the topic, don’t you find the anti-Semitic flavor of all the large protests (attended by liberals and leftists) distressing?
The majority of the protests I have seen are pro- Palestinian and NOT pro-Hamas. BIG difference. There is a case to be made that Israel is going too far in its air assault but I dont happen to have that opinion as yet. I may change my mind as facts change but I am giving Israel the benefit of the doubt for now.
Lets put this into context. Remember when Glen Beck held that massive rally in DC against Obama? I dont think most of that 300,000 or so crowd was racist but a percentage of them certainly were. I am sure you remember the placards showing the then President as a witch doctor in a horrible display of racism. But wouldn't you agree that there were racists in that crowd but they didnt represent the vast majority of people present? That is the same argument I am making about the pro-Palestinian marches. Yes some idiots in those demonstrations are Hamas sympathizers and they need to be condemned. But the decent people who are seeing the civilians routed in Gaza have a point, whether you or I agree with them or not. Let's be intelligent with this and separate the two groups as often well intentioned protests are infiltrated by hateful radicals, on both sides.

Ya know what? I’ve been around the world twice on ships, lived in Japan twice, Korea once, Iraq, Kuwait, Saudi’s Arabia, Bahrain countless times. Multiple other countries as well, New Zealand, Germany a few times, hell I’ve drank Guinness on St. Patrick’s Day in Ireland, Great Britain, South Africa even Belarus. Want to go visit the old Soviet empire? Belarus is it. So it’s safe to say I’m decently well traveled.
In all that time, Never have I ever been questioned as an American by ANYONE why the US supports Israel…

I know Israelis living here in the US (all former IDF career men) and THEY have never asked me ONCE what I thought about the US’s continued support of Israel.
We have discussed it, specifically in terms of how it’s distributed and used in the defense industry. They even have a saying about it, “we are dollar rich, but shekel poor. Not a one of them has ever asked me what I thought about it, and no one in any foreign country.
As close as a discussion about Israel I ever had abroad was in South Africa when I asked THEM about the vela incident and their relationship with Israel. That was quite the interesting time to be sure. Not once did they say “btw, why do you guys continue to support Israel?” So in the words of the immortal Marisa Tomei.

I’ll bet you didn’t know that Israel had forcibly pulled all of its citizens out of Gaza in 2005/6? Without googling it what major event happened on the night prior to the yom Kippur war? And who was at the center of it? And what was the only thing they got wrong?

I was watching the protest in support on Israel on TV and the police were there to protect the people from being attacked. when they have a pro Muslim the police are there to stop the protesters attacking people.
One group only seems to support violence and hate the other just wants the hostages back.

She’s accurately describing the fact that pro Israel rally’s are pointing out that their countrymen are being held hostage against their will, while the pro Hamas/Palestinian demonstrations are calling for violence.
Do I have that right?

My apologies if you took it that way. It just seemed so clear to the rest of us that she was saying, that pro-Israel protests have been peaceful while violence has erupted around some of the pro-Palestinian protests. I’m not saying that you were trying to gaslight, but you seemed to put off an appearance of being too cute by half. That was my take on how your post appeared to others.
Thats just not my thing. Yes, I can see now that I read her post incorrectly, or better said, not as clearly as the rest of the board, but if you see my response to her, I was really unsure what she was saying so I tried to get clarification. I wasnt going to go all "lefty" on her as Lost contends and I dont even know what that would mean being that I am staunchly on Israel's side in this war.
