along with the top few percent of our population having an increasing disproportionate share of the national wealth, and not a word from the right about "the redistribution of wealth." That is, until someone wants to spend more tax money on social or educational programs.

Saw a report where they interviewed several business executives saying they have many well paying jobs open and can't find people with a good enough education and training to fill them. Their solution, which has been the solution by many companies for awhile now, is to get them from other countries, through having them immigrate here or shipping the jobs overseas.

You might want to re-think that one!

In 2008 federal tax receipts as a percent of GDP was running about 18.5%, while the federal govt percent of GDP was 20%. With a $14T GDP you can easily see a $300B deficit. So far so good?

The federal govt percent of GDP is running at 25%. Revenues are at 15%, hence the trillion dollar deficits. How about we focus on getting these 14M unemployed employed again as that would increase federal tax receipts. In addition, take the federal take of GDP back to 20%. Once we are back at least the 18.5% revenue and 20% size of govt, then I would consider a tax increase to cover the spread.

Now to your point about getting employees from other countries, it's called using the HI-B visa. The company I work for use it, but the number of allowed H1-B visas has been reduced by govt. Here is the problem, 25% of Americans have at least an under-graduate degree. The unemployment rate is about 4.5%. When you look at STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math), our company can't find enough local home grown talent.

So why not bring them in from other countries? Think about this logically. The pay for these immigrants at our company average about $75K. They pay taxes, maybe establish roots, maybe buy homes vs immigrants coming from Latin countries where they lack education, skills and competencies. Sounds logicial right?

There is a shitload of corporate money sitting offshore. These are profits made offshore. Companies would like to repatriate this money, but not with the uncertainty and current tax rate. How about reducing the tax rate to allow companies to repatriate this money? John Chambers says Cisco has over $35B waiting to come home, which could be invested in new plants and jobs.

How "politicians" in general can be so disingenuous to the people.   And YES these lies and half truths vomit from the mouths of BOTH parties. The Republicans are unabashed in their pandering and protection of the top 2%. Boehner and his bobble-heads no longer even TRY to hide their contempt for anyone earning under $100K/year, and the fuck'n Dems go into neutral and become effete in delivering for the bottom 98% because THEY TOO are 'owned' outright by the top 2%.

I think it is time for the bottom 98% to voluntarily QUIT paying and filing income taxes. What are "they" gonna do; seize poperty of, and then PROSECUTE 200,000,000 citizens?

You are one of the.

Olbermann is an out and out liar. I just happen to own and have been a limited partner in EPD (Enterprise Product Partners) for many years. I also am a limited partner in several other S type corporations.

It is true EPD does not pay any tax like say Intel. All of the income is passed thru to the partners, me and thousands of other partners. EPD also passes thru all of the expenses of the S type corporation to me and thousands of others. Each one of the limited partners shares (called Units) are treated like a small business. Based on our number of shares we get a percentage of the income and expenses. We add up our share of the payments received subtract our portion of the expenses of the S type corp. and pay our share of the State and Federal taxes. On many of the S types we have to file in multi states and sometimes in Canada in the case of TCLP (Trans Canadian Pipeline) paying each state and country tax. The foreign tax is not deductable like PVX income and tax.

Olbermann didn't explain it that way did he? Lying mother fucker.

Now there are some advantages to owning EPD along with some disadvantages.

Advantages: EPD is required to pay out almost all of its income to the unit holders so the unit holder can be taxed on that income.  Therefore, EPD can't hide the income overseas like Intel, hedge the income like banks or take advantage of some of the tax loopholes provided to large corps. The advantage to the Unit holder is a large payout 4.5 to 7% in some cases. But remember, I pay the tax, not EPD.

Disadvantages: If the partnership loses money and there is nothing to distribute to the limited partners, APL being a good example. Bad purchase at $31 worth $18 today all I get from the APL investment is the expenses. And all I can use those expenses for is deductions against APL's cash distraction not any other income I may have. Because there isn't any cash distribution by APL, I eat the losses.  Fucking lying Olbermann didn't explain that part did he?

One other small point. In some cases I can be held responsible of the partnerships debts and liabilities, law suits and liens. These are rare but it is a risk. Maybe Olbermann didn't read the fine print, if the dumb bastard can read.

It no different than  say you and I owned a bagel shop and were partners. We take the income and expences from the bagel shop, and file our individual taxes. The bagel shop didn't pay any taxes because the income an expenses were passed thru to you and me. We paid the fucking taxes.

Olbermann didn't explain it that way did he?

Some of these S types are huge, that is true, KMP Mkt cap $21B, MWE $2.5B, NS $3.9B and they have thousands of employees, who pay taxes on wages. Not may of them laid off during the recession even though their income and market cap went down, because they usually run lean and the work must be done. You can't walk away from 3,000 miles of pipeline and wait for a better day.

Olbermann left that out also.

Why and how these limited partnerships were created is a whole different story, but surfice it to say its one of the reasons gas is less that Europe and under $4.00 a gal here and over $4 a liter in most of Europe.  If they make them convert to Corporations I'll be rich and you will pay $3.75 to $4.50 a gallon for gas.

You want to know why go ask Olbermann.

bought it hook line and sinker. Read my post above carefully. Or stay enrolled in the dumb shit school of BS and lies with Olbermann. Most farms and ranches are S Corporations. It keeps food price down. Most piplelines are S Corp. Most famially business are S Corps. The other type of Corp is C Corps. Intel, IBM, Ford. You have to understand the laws, taxes and libalities involved in the two types of Corps.

The Republicans didn't define them as small. This started way back in the day. There are over 3.5 million S Corp's. in the U.S. Do an S Corp search on the web.

On second thought, sit on your butt and listen to Olbermann, he will feed you a line of shit, you will eat it and think you are so much better off, and you will make your decissions thinking you are a really smart guy. All of this is kind of like brain sugery, but if you don't have a brain sugery isn't gonna help.

Geez mein, weren't you once a little, snot nosed bastard? Who paid for your education? Probably, I paid a portion of it, since I've been paying taxes before you arrived on the scene.

However, I do agree that we could certainly do without the Dept of Education, and also the Dept of Energy as well. And FEMA should disappear too. In my youth, there was no FEMA....people looked after themselves.

Matt, here is some food for thought: The Washington DC school district is notable for making two lists. First, they spend more money per student than most other school district. At one point, they were #1 in the nation, though that was several years ago, so I'm not sure if they still are.

Despite spending more than the vast majority of other school districts, they also make the list as having some of the lowest test scores in the nation.

Bluntly - more money does not equal better results.

I agree with Mein on this one. I also have no children. While I have no problem with my tax dollars being spent to educate children, i have a HUGE problem with my money being wasted in the name of education with absolutely NOTHING, ZERO, ZILCH to show for it.

You are also correct that many companies look overseas for employees with the right skill set to fill jobs due to the fact that the brain pool in this country is shrinking every year. Our children are growing up dumber and dumber due to the piss poor excuse for an education many of them are recieving. But the solution is NOT to "stay the course" and keep throwing good money after bad.

The solution is, as in all things, to start letting the almighty dollar do what the Teacher's Union flat refuses to do - hold teachers to a higher standard and reward those teachers who are exceptional and kick the crappy ones to the curb. Disband the excescence known as the Dept of Education, disband the thieves den euphemistically referred to as teacher's unions, and start letting private companies compete for education dollars. You will be amazed at the results.

Mein, two people who have not raised kids, dealt with school systems, on a personal level, as parents.

I've put 3 kids through public schools, and have 9 grandkids, 3 in public schools, 2 in private schools and 2 home schooled. My 3 kids have grown up to be happy and successful, and I would think by all social standards, pull their societal weight. My grandkids are happy and well adjusted.

Also, I have friends who run and/or own private schools, tutoring institutes, and some in the public school system. The bottom line? Parents who are motivated, and having a lot of money helps. In my area the competition to get into the best colleges and universities starts with getting into the best preschools, and it is stiff and somethings a down-right cut-throat process to do so. Parents with money and who have highly influential careers hold sway of course, about their kids getting into the best pre-schools, and the pressure on the parents, teachers, administrators and kids is unrelenting throughout their years in school.

Then you have the parents without much money, but are highly motivated to see their children do well. They usually work extra jobs to get their kids into one of the lesser private schools or Catholic schools, or have them in public school and ride the teachers, administrators and their kids so as to get the results they are looking for.

Then you have the parents who could care less, and as a result, neither do their kids. What you're left with is someone who has little to no motivation to learn, and usually a teacher who would love to teach him or her, but has no leverage to even make them behave let alone learn, so is reduce to a warden.

So, there's no simple fix. Blaming the Dept. of Education is lame because most money and decision-making comes at the local school district level.

Regarding the current system we have now, I never said we should pour good money after bad. There are plenty of good examples of where kids in disadvantaged neighborhoods, who have been written off, have found the help they need in someone who was dedicated to inspire and mobilize a whole community to take responsibility for their children and get involved in their learning and education. But, these people, when they surface, need to be supported. And, we need to be training up new young people to do the same. There was a time when teachers, for the most part were passionate pioneers, and were respected and supported by their community. That same spirit needs to be fostered and supported, and it can't be by government, but by people.

More Cons on Welfare than Liberals. You have to

include Corporate Welfare, Pentegon Contracts, Agriculture, and Oil industries when talking about Welfare.

And the blood sucking Welfare winners are:

Conservatives.
