The Third Party Alternative: The Discussion Begins Now

Our political system is dysfunctional. It's time we did something about it. Must we wait three more weeks for this discussion to begin? I think not.

We need more choices when it comes to our national elections. We need a third party, one that is not in bed with corporate special interests or K street palmgreasers.

The biggest problem, as I see it, is that the most viable potential third party at this time, is the right wing conservative Evangelical Christian demographic. They've got the organization, the media outlets, and Heaven Help Us All, they've got GAWD on their side.

The irony of course is the GOP has made that demographic a major part of their base. So if the EvanXtians ever got it into their heads to break off from their political constraints, we'd wind up with a Fish to go along with the donkey and elephant.

May Xenu help us all if they ever actually do something about it.

And then there are the true maverick types. I thought a Ron Paul - Chuck Hagel ticket was a viable third alternative to the predictable usual suspects. It didn't pan out obviously.

Personally, I think its time we took this country out of the hands of politicians and lawyers. The idea of Lee Iacocca as a candidate for president was floated some years ago. But Iacocca wasn't interested, and the time wasn't right then. With the economy what it is, perhaps its time we ran this country like a business, instead of the bloated dysfunctional windbag Washington DC has become.

Voters are hell bent on throwing their votes away on either-or (and that's the way they like it, uhuh, uhuh*) and the two parties of Republican and Republican-lite have a strangle hold on the economy as well as politics.  DC, Wall St and Hollywood are one.  They don't need no stinking GAWD.  They have something more powerful called the Media and a loaded Starbucks card.  Do not under estimate the average Joe as a follower.  This is a warning.  Your call for a third choice could be seen as sedition.

* KC and the Sunshine Bank was bought to you by The American Society of the illusion of CHOICE.  I am not spelling out the acronym for you.  You, the people, must figure it out.  If you do, you will be set free.  Yet, you will not regret having known blindness.

A max of 6 terms in the house, 2 terms in the senate and maybe a 1 term 6 year presidency.

America's system wasn't set up to accommodate political parties. The Founders didn't anticipate them. They almost made a State without parties: they cut it down to two.

There were a lot of choices this year for President. Nominally, they were all either Democrat or Republican. But think about it: how much did Dennis Kucinich have in common with Hillary Clinton? How much did Ron Paul have in common with Mike Huckabee? If the government were designed to accommodate more than two parties, those examples would have been in different ones.

What's more likely to happen instead of a "viable" third party, one of the parties is likely to collapse with its members either becoming apolitical, joining the other party, and forming a new party. This could be gradual. So there will still be two parties at the end.

I'm a confessed atheist, but splintering off the really fucked up part of the republican party would make it better.  They could get past talking about abortion and on to discussing real problems.

The country needs someone to represent the middle, where most people actually reside.  The religious zealots are extremely well organized but are too far out there for enough people that I think we'd be safe from them.  I don't know if the republicans as we know them today could be centrists, but I'd argue that the need to pander to the zealots keeps them from trying.

but wouldn't it be nice if the really fucked up, religious whack job part of the Republican party splintered off along with the rabid, foaming at the mouth, America hating part of the Democratic party. Then the moderate Dems along with the moderate Reps could form a more centrist party, blah, blah blah.... Yeah and peace is going to break out in the Middle East too.

It was a nice fantasy though.

...where all the hot women would wander the streets naked, waiting for guys like us to take them home so that they could make us dinner and have sex with us.  Then they'd clean the house before they left.

What I hope for, but will probably not see in my lifetime is that 20-30 % of the vote would go to a "3rd party" candidate.  While that would not "Replace" the major parties, it would identify that many are fed up - with the tripe that both parties put out.  lets face it, taxes are a tad high, and to be honest putting those who earn more in a higher taxation bracket is unfair and does not promote the work ethic.

As to the real issues....  yea sure the economy is one, but why are the folks MOST responsible not jailed?  regualtors, politicians who accept more and more money from lobbiests...???

as to "professional politicians"  I honestly believe that they all need to go... just go.

by having a significant chunck of the electorate go indy, would mean that either party would have to win their vote...  and that would send them scrambling...  like the coachroches that they are....

until the electoral college is replaced with majority vote. There may be a large support for a "head screwed on right" third party but the support is scattered across the country. With electoral system, it is difficult to electoral votes because there is large enough majority to override the votes independents and 3rd party.

10 might be a bit much, but 5 is still in the realm of possibility, as long as it's a very, very long afternoon. lol

with 4, I'd wind up being the one tied to the bed, and I can't have that.

the $700 Billion bailout. He wants to put a sales tax on all derivatives and put the criminals who got us in this mess behind bars. Both parties are gutless and so are both Presidential candidates.

The United States Congress has the constitutional right under ARticle 1, Section 9, Part 2 to suspend the Writ of Habeas Corpus when there is an "Invasion of the public safety". What could be a more clear and present danger to the public safety than an attack on our financial infrastructure. Lock up all the CEOS of WaMu, Indy Mac, Wachovia, Countrywide, Fannie mae, Freddie Mac, Lehman Bros, AIG, Goldman Sachs et al, freeze their assets and confiscate the financial records. That's right, imprison them until proven not quilty.

How can we go through three debates without directly answering this $700 Billion swindle is beyond me. But I got tell ya Doc, the Democrats and Republicans have it rigged to where it's near impossible for a third party to emerge.
