Trump filed his lawsuit against ABC - Stephanopoulos in MARCH 2024 and that did not stop him from agreeing to the ABC debate in early MAY 2024. (The CNN debate agreed to in May took place at the end of June 2024.)

"Ken Lemon, the president of the National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ), said Wednesday’s interview with former President Trump was delayed over a fact-checking dispute, not because of audio issues, as the GOP presidential nominee claimed. Lemon told Axios he was called back to address an issue just moments before Trump took to the stage. The former president did not want to be fact-checked live and was refusing to begin the interview, he said. “[Trump’s team] said, ‘Well, can you not fact-check? He’s not going to take the stage if you fact-check,’” Lemon said. ..."

"The interview was delayed more than an hour before Trump took the stage with [Rachel] Scott, Fox News’s Harris Faulkner and Semafor’s Kadia Goba.  Trump said the delay was due to audio issues. Lemon told Axios there were audio technical difficulties, but “they were resolved very quickly.” “The bigger problem was his threat not to take the stage when he had agreed to go on,” Lemon said. “He did not want to be fact-checked, but we could not let him on the stage without fact-checking.”

At the beginning of the interview, Trump complained to the audience that his appearance was delayed because NABJ couldn't get their equipment working or some such excuse. It is now reported that Trump's handlers refused to let Trump participate unless the NABJ interviewers would agree to NO FACT CHECKING ALLOWED. The interview opened, NOT WITH FACT-CHECKING but with the presentation of facts (previous Trump statements and claims) followed by a question, "Why should Black voters trust you after you have used language like that?"

YOU HAVE PUSHED FALSE CLAIMS ABOUT SOME OF YOUR RIVALS FROM NIKKI HALEY TO FORMER PRESIDENT BARACK OBAMA SAYING THAT THEY WERE NOT BORN IN THE UNITED STATES, WHICH IS NOT TRUE.  YOU HAVE TOLD FOUR CONGRESSWOMAN OF COLOR WHO WERE AMERICAN CITIZENS TO GO BACK TO WHERE THEY CAME FROM. Trump made numerous false claims during the interview that were NOT FACT CHECKED and I was surprised and annoyed that the interviewers did NOT fact check Trump but now I know why. It was also reported that Trump's handlers were eager for the interview to end ASAP [they were probably afraid that Trump would use the n-word] and they would not allow Trump any extra time to make up for the opening delay.
