Tom Delay is heading up a seminar called - ARE YOU READY???? "Ethics Tips From 'The Hammer'"

He has GOT to be joking! This is hilarious. What the hell does he know about ethics? I don't know how many will show up but it would be interesting to know who will.

DeLay to headline ethics seminar

Former House majority leader Rep. Tom DeLay (R-TX), who resigned last year after being indicted on campaign finance abuses and remains under scrutiny in the Jack Abrammoff investigation, is set to headline an upcoming political training seminar titled "explicit discussions of ethics," according to a Washington Post report.

Wow!!! There is an old saying among prosecutors: "A prosecutor can indict even a ham sandwich". The sad fact in this country, and probably most others, is that at any time anyone and everyone can be charged with something. The government has become so obese, so intrusive, so abusive, and so out of contact with its legitimate purpose that everyone is at risk of having the boot put to them. Most people cower in the shadows and keep their mouths shut so they have little actual risk. Those you don't have substantial risk of running afoul of some bastard "official" who wants to get them for something. No, being indicted isn't the same as being convicted even though that is often "arranged". So as you relish in your perceived misery of Tom DeLay try to keep it in perspective.

But I agree that you are right generally about prosecutor abuse. (By some "official" or another, I presume you mean a prosecutor.) There are some scandalous prosecutions.  Nevertheless, Texas is about the least liberal state (or pseudo-liberal as you'd say) even among the democrats. I think a lot of bad things about Delay, but he earmarked a lot of bacon for Texas, especially his district and so he was very popular. Are you sure for all that earmarked pork that you really like him, then, Harry?

Because of the pork, he was really popular. Until it was found that he set up a charity and dipped into it for campaign money.

Meanwhile, prosecutor Ronnie Earle has a record of prosecuting mostly democrats. Yes, he brought Delay's charges to three grand juries. (That seems like a lot of work to put mustard on a ham sandwich.) If it were doing it to swing the elections, why would he be trying to re-instate Elections conspiracy charges right now?

They have the audits, they have Abramoff, they have record of Delay's role on TRMPAC. Why do you think this case is weak, Harry? As much as I think prosecutors abuse their power too much, I think the case against Delay is pretty strong.

Also, unless the case were pretty strong, if I were a prosecutor, I wouldn't have tried to go after a somebody with the power of Delay unless there is a solid case.

If it makes you feel better, I think the case against William Jefferson is much stronger, and I wish they'd hurry up, get him out of Congress, and put that guy in the klink.

and then one looks at the poor schlubs in the INS trying to do their jobs... and gettin busted for it.  One has to wonder... why?  Every day we hear of some gross miscarriage of justice while, the media focuses on the three ring circus of W D.C.   To be honest, I really don't care about the "washington elite."  I do care about the corner Dunkin Donuts, the cleaners, the local theater, the highway I go to work on, and most of all, my kids' education.  But W DC?  what do they care about?  Beats me!

did the ham sandwich choose to resign his hummble position a my lunch?  Tom Delay resigned from being one of the most powerfull persons in the House, and in the election, his seat crossed the eisle.  Blame the liberals, blame the media if you like, but this guy is dirty, and his actions have revealed as much.

Well this makes sense.  The article only says that the seminar will be a discussion of ethics, not that Delay is going to come out in favor of ethical behavior.  Of course, he wouldn't know how even if he wanted to as the poster boy for corruption in Congress.

Here's the seminar in outline :

1. hypothetical cases are presented ;

2. you are asked to imagine "What would DeLay do?" ;

3. you are advised to do the opposite.

Rumor has it that the Harvard Business School, the Yale School of Organization and Management, Stanford and the Wharton School are  tenatively considering adopting DeLay's musings re ethics.  The course to be titiled "Case Studies in Corruption"?
