Donald Trump on Sunday took a swipe at businessmen who criticize his signature policy, and observers immediately pounced on the purported irony.

 
Trump over the weekend posted the following statement on Truth Social: "THE BUSINESSMEN WHO CRITICIZE TARIFFS ARE BAD AT BUSINESS, BUT REALLY BAD AT POLITICS."

 
"THEY DON’T UNDERSTAND OR REALIZE THAT I AM THE GREATEST FRIEND THAT AMERICAN CAPITALISM HAS EVER HAD!" Trump then added.

On social media, experts and notable political observers were quick on the draw.

 
Gizmodo tech reporter Matt Novak posted a screenshot of Trump's quote and added, "I can't emphasize enough that all of these posts from Trump are real. He's such a f------ idiot."

 
Actor and producer Jon Cryer responded to Novak's quoting of Trump's new attack on businessmen who he says are bad at business, writing, "BUT I, THE GUY WITH ALL THOSE BANKRUPTCIES AND FRAUD CONVICTIONS, AM REALLY GOOD AT IT."

 
Republicans against Trump also chimed in, saying, "Ah yes, Mr. Six-Time Bankruptcy is here to lecture actual businesspeople—who correctly understand that tariffs will crush their businesses and raise prices for consumers—that they are the ones bad at business."

 
HuffPost reporter Yashar Ali also replied:

"He has Mar-a-Lago" - according to his own tax filings, M-a-L is a $28 million dollar country club (that he wishes was a $1.5 B private estate).

Trump Baja - failed
Trump Baku - failed
Trump Chicago - declared a complete loss, value = zero by Trump (so he could write off his loans and take a tax deduction)
Trump Dominica - failed
Trump Fort Lauderdale - failed
Trump Moscow - a lot of hot air; no financing; totally abandoned
Trump Panama - failed
Trump Plaza - bankruptcy
Trump SOHO - bankrupt
Trump Toronto - bankrupt
Trump Tampa - failed  
Trump West Side Railyards - failed; foreign (Hong Kong) investors took over the properties and succeeded. Occupants of the sole "Trump" building had the Trump name removed.  
Trump Post Office Hotel (DC) - lost $70 M in 3 years of operation; sold to a group of MAGA Businessmen willing to overpay (for future considerations?)
Trump Tower (NYC uptown) - still there  
Trump Tower (NYC downtown, Wall St.) - losing money; monthly income is less than the monthly upkeep / payments. Large ($160M? $250M?) Loan due in mid-2025.  
EVERY Trump Casino - failed or bankrupted

The only successful one is Trump Tower Las Vegas. It is owned by Ruffin (50%) and Trump Org. (50%).  Accurate occupancy data is not available. Prior to completion, Trump claimed that all of the condo units had been sold but upon completion only 21% of the units had ACTUALLY been sold. While Trump was campaigning or was POTUS, several units were sold to Chinese oligarchs at above market rates.

"Very successful golf resorts around the world" - TOTAL DELUSION. Trump golf clubs were NEVER profitable and LOST hundreds of millions of dollars over 30 years ****until the Saudis started paying Trump off*** with LIV tournaments after he lost to Biden.

"A Boeing 757" - that was out of commission and not maintained for several years. "While taxiing at the Palm Beach International Airport during the early hours of May 12, 2024, the plane clipped an unoccupied parked corporate jet." - Did Trump hire a woman pilot to crash his jet? "...  the Boeing 757 was grounded for mechanical issues in August 2024."

Trump's non-Real Estate failures aren't included here (Trump Shuttle; Trump Univ; Trump Charity; ...). Trump accumulated almost $1 B in business losses during the mid-1990s. To CDL and other MAGAs, that is considered to be a brilliant success!
