Stop pretending this was ever going to end any other way. One of the few things Trump was right about was this war had dragged on far too long. No matter how the end game was organized, the Taliban was always going to stab the other side in the back and take power. Foreign powers have been trying to subdue the Afghans since Alexander the Great. It has never worked and it never will. As the Taliban say, "You have the watches. We have the time."
