So House Speaker Johnson, who's really becoming more of a disappointment by the day, put together a CR to fund the government until March. The 1547 page bill gave the Democrats more goodies than you can shake a stick at that would severely hamper the incoming administration, from blocking RFK Jr. from rescheduling vaccines, to funding bioweapons labs, to blocking subpeonas for the Jan 6 committee, to funding a bunch of horrible DEI woke shit, and even funding college tuition for students in other countries. The cherry on top was to give members of Congress a 70k dollar a year raise.
Multiple Republicans in Congress bulked, as did many of the top MAGA activists on X, Elon was pissed about it, and Trump weighed in on it as well. House Majority Leader Steve Scalise officially announced that this monstrosity was officially killed, and Speaker Johnson had to come up with another solution in order to go on Christmas vacation on time. Most MAGA activists would prefer a government shutdown for the remainder of Biden's tenure at the White House, but it now looks like Johnson is going to Trump, hat in hand, looking for a stop gap funding bill. Will the new bill be a clean CR or it will be filled with more waste than a pig farm? Only time will tell, but Trump is indicating that his support for Johnson to remain Speaker in the next Congress hinges on what he does next.
DC delivers the pork -- stealing from the taxpayer to hand to connected interests. GOP does it, Dems do it. They say "fuck you" taxpayers. . Trump's real enemy is the GOP (since they will hold the majorities and can deliver or prevent whatever the hell they want.) . The GOP will be well on their way of losing the House or Senate in two years because they care more about grifting than keeping control through delivering relief to the taxpayers.
They couldn't do it in the last Congress with a slightly larger majority, so why would they be able to now? This does not bode well for Johnson being re-elected Speaker or for any Republican Speaker that might follow him. It also does not bode well for Trump being able to get anything of substance done legislatively.
The Republicans "will hold the majorities and can deliver or prevent whatever the hell they want?" Yes, technically they DO have the majority in both houses but it is razor thin in Congress and barely better in the Senate. Johnson has already proved he can't control the House, so he demonstrably CAN'T "deliver" whatever he wants. He couldn't do it in the last Congress so what makes Fester think he can do it in the new one with an even smaller majority? Fester lives in an alternate reality.
