Incompetence squared. CNN story reports:

"The 84-page logbook obtained by Time and authenticated by Pentagon spokesman Larry Di Rita is the "kind of document that was never meant to leave Gitmo," a senior Pentagon official told the magazine. (See attached article for talk or urinate on yourself interrogation technique - non fetish.)

In the event the attached article is accurate, how is this still happening? Are we that dim? I say we hire the marketing crew from Phillip Morris and convince these fanatics Madagascar is the root of all evil.

I've got a better idea.
There are alot of people who talk the talk about being fed up with the direction this country and its policies have taken. How about we get all these people who talk alot to do something more. Like work to elect representatives in our governmkent who will actually serve the people and THEIR interests, instead of merely the special interests of those with deep pockets and deeper corruption.

It has become apparent to me that whether you sre a conservative who despises Clinton, or a liberal who despises Bush, unless you are a member of the moneyed elite, your interests are not being served. And it no longer really matters which party is in power. The same special interests are being served and pandered to.

The governmental dream of Lincoln, for the people, by the people, and of the people, has vanished under a mountain of corruption. Our integrity as a whole has been tarnished, our governmental philosophy of democracy has been trampled.

I see no further point in arguing conservative vs liberal, GOP versus Dem, Bush vs. Clinton. Its pointless. There is nothing left for the regular citizen to hope for except a miracle. And that then becomes the perview of the Evangelical Christians, who as far as I am concerned, are the most wicked evil hypocritical and corrupt of them all.

Or, to put it in the words of my late mentor Hunter Thompson, "We're fucked."

Im a conservative who has absolutely no faith in the current Republican party.  And to me the Democratic party has been useless since the death of JFK.  The fact is that both parties are 2 sides of the same coin, serving the same interests.  A useless fucking bunch if there ever were any.
Damn shame that such a great nation, the hope of mankind has been reduced to W as its leader.  God has lifted his grace from our beloved land!!  That is the only explanation that makes sense to me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Here's a solution to our problem.  We take all the prisoners that are at Gitmo and distribute them to American prisons like Attica San Quentin etc.  We than let the general population know who their new neighbors are and I think within a couple weeks we no longer have a problem!  We let them into our excellent prison system should solve our problem.

LOL. Take a tour of one of California's maximum security institutions. A trained psychopath would prosper at Pelican Bay.

A dose of acid couldn't prepare Darwin for a trip into the California Correction System. Believe it or not, patriotism takes a back seat to ruthless in California's gladiator schools.

Not now that elections can be fixed with a few clicks of a mouse.  The democrats in my county are doing just what you suggest: grooming and selecting candidates at the lowest levels of government with the idea that they will get elected to higher and higher office as their careers progress.

Besides the obvious drawback: that it will take 30 years to really have a significant effect on a country already in crisis, there's the more serious one that it might not work, because elections might be fraudalent now.

It isn't at all useless to talk about it, anymore than it was useless for the American colonies to talk about the tyranny of the king.  You could see what came out of that.  If you talk about it you could at least analyze the how the government failed structurally, and construct a better one.  Even if it doesn't work here, it could have an affect on other countries more ameniable to it.  If you talk, at least you can form a philosophy to be studied, and have goals for a new government and communicate them to people;  you could at least set the stage to revise and restore the government protect rights, and if the time ever comes, the public at large will be informed about your plans.

Any despotism will silence opposition.  It's important that in the meantime the opposition doesn't silence itself.  I'm not going to silence myself first.

Much the same things were said about the government in Rome before the Caesars. The republic becomes to corrupt to function, it falls prey to a dictator, the dictator (or his heir) is (eventually) overthrown by the people, and the whole cycle starts all over again.

It's inevitable. Nothing you can do will stop it from happening, so why fret over it? Be thankful you were born into this phase of the cycle. It could be much worse.
