Great quotes from former CENTCOM commanders. I especially like Tommy Franks' assessment.

Read it from the horse's mouth.

He couldn't have been more disgusted by the lack of strategic planning concerning this war.  I can't wait to see the Bush Administration try to attack him, given the guy's stellar record, AND the fact that the Bush Administration has publicly honored his great service to our Nation on several occassions after his retirement from command, AND used him as a special envoy to the Middle East.

General Anthony Zinni, is one of the most respected and outspoken military leaders of the past two decades. From 1997 to 2000, he was commander-in-chief of the United States Central Command, in charge of all American troops in the Middle East. That was the same job held by Gen. Norman Schwarzkopf before him, and Gen. Tommy Franks after.

Zinni says Iraq was the wrong war at the wrong time - with the wrong strategy. And he was saying it before the U.S. invasion. In the months leading up to the war, while still Middle East envoy, Zinni carried the message to Congress: "This is, in my view, the worst time to take this on. And I don’t feel it needs to be done now."

"In the lead up to the Iraq war and its later conduct, I saw at a minimum, true dereliction, negligence and irresponsibility, at worse, lying, incompetence and corruption."
