A nut job who blames the NFL for getting CTE? A guy who has mental illness (documented) goes across country to shoot up a building.
SO...... What is a leftist going to blame this on or how is it TRUMPS FAULT?A note found on his body indicates the motive may have been a grievance against the NFL, whose headquarters is in the midtown building where the shootings took place and that he may have believed he was suffering from CTE, a brain disease linked to head trauma received while playing high school football. One of the dead was a uniformed NYPD officer working in the lobby as an off-duty security guard.
A nut job who blames the NFL for getting CTE? A guy who has mental illness (documented) goes across country to shoot up a building.
SO...... What is a leftist going to blame this on or how is it TRUMPS FAULT?
And I don't blame it on Trump, though I'm sure he won't do anything meaningful about it beyond "thoughts and prayers."
Violence is endemic in America and we're awash in guns. The result is predictable. And it's WAY too late to get rid of the guns. That horse has left the barn.
Besides, I've got a pistol myself. Legally licensed. At this point I don't think I need an AR, though a shotgun might be a good option. But I'm standing pat for now.
HMMMM..... Just as I predicted.
In your response.... you inadvertently blamed..... GUNS. When it was just a fucking nut job. You blamed the tool he used.
Why not blame the PERSON. People are responsible for their actions. This guy drove across the country with a purpose to do what he did. His note he blamed NFL even though he never played in the NFL.
We have no clue how he obtained the weapon yet. But still you want to blame the tool used and not that this guy made a plan and carried it out. But it is the weapons fault for the damage he did.
How about the guy in Michigan at the Walmart.... was it the knifes fault for all the people he stabbed? I mean the guy had a plan to go into Walmart and inflict harm to people.... and he did. Do we blame the knife?
I said we're awash in them, which is a simple statement of fact. After all there are more than 300 million guns in America and that's enough for every man, woman and baby in America. So, yes, there are a lot of guns, they are easy to get and they also just happen to kill faster and farther than any other weapon. But the guy was obviously nuts, so, yes, that's a big factor. I apologize for not mentioning it.
I also said there's nothing that can be done so it's not like I'm calling for a ban. I even pointed out I have one myself and might buy a shotgun. But none of that factored into your knee-jerk response.
I said you inadvertently blamed guns....
Like you stated.... US is a washed with guns and you said "it is too late to do anything about that".... as like you could possibly legislate some form of gun control but its TOO LATE.
Like I stated... inadvertently blamed guns. It wasn't your intention. I knew that. BUT you did focus on the object. That was the point I was trying to make.
It wasn't a "KNEE JERK" reaction. But you went to GUNS. Not the person.
I also recognize you mentioned he is nuts in this second reply. Thank you for that. But again my point stands... you didn't say that first. It is what many do right away is they want to find blame in something else.
People on the right do the same thing. They want to find blame in the opposite political party or something stupid. Instead of blaming the person for the action.
With this example I just knew the media, or some people will go right for the object. Just look at the news title. They immediately go for the type of weapon.
You can't simply say the guy was crazy and the gun had nothing to do with it. The gun was the mechanism and in many cases (This one? I'm not so sure.) the mass killing could not have been done with another weapon, like a knife. For example, the Las Vegas massacre could ONLY have happened with a long gun fired in automatic mode. He certainly could't have killed more than 50 people with a knife or even a pistol.
My M1911 can't be fired with much accuracy beyond 50 feet. My old service revolver, a Colt .38 Detective Special was even worse. So, yeah, the gun matters.
1. Vegas shooter didn't have "AUTOMATIC" gun. He had the "bump stock". Dont want to be conspiracy theory guy. But either he was extremely trained or practiced ALOT to get off that many rounds... and from that distance to be that accurate... Because even "spray and pray" shooting and hitting that many people is insanely "lucky" type thing. But things can happen. Or like I will say below.... he was trained and practiced alot to pull off what he did....ie: planned, planned, planned. Which he did to get his weapons up to the room. Because with a "bump stock" and recoil you are not accurate at a distance in rapid fire situations or "burst' shooting.
2. Your M1911 or service pistol in the correct hands could do mass damage from beyond 50ft away. I have a pocket pistol .380 ACP Taraus.... I can hit 6" steel 25 yards and 12" steel at 40 yards. I am not talking one hit... I am talking 5 out of the 7 +1 rounds. Also I am no "expert". I just like to shoot and shoot a lot. So i know my weapons. I also have a Sig P320... which now I am even more scared of.... kind of not really.... just don't drop it....and it isn't my conceal gun... IYKYK... LOL
3. The correct person with the correct weapon can have high casualty. A person with a knife can be quieter before others have a clue of what is going on. Same goes for a blunt object.... screw driver... etc. Hell look at the pressure cooker attacks at the marathon. Stealth and house hold goods. Do we need to bring up McVay and garden products.
These are all facts.
But if you want to get back to my original point of the BULL SHIT of media. How they want things to fit a narrative.
Look at the flack CNN is getting. How the "reporter" called the nut job a "white man". Seriously... they wanted it to fit a narrative so badly. I will also say this.... other outlets I saw wanted to connect it so badly to Palestine.... they even hinted at it prior to all the information coming out. Just based off the photos/camera footage.
which to me was meant to be synonymous with a bump stock. I was well aware he used one. That's why they were banned for a while (by Trump). Also, the parking lot was full so "spray and pray" worked out just fine for him. It was fish in a barrel.
The NY shooter was very clearly NOT a "white man." He looked to be part black and part Asian.
Few things and to tie in other threads...
1. Showing how you do have TDS.... have to throw in Trump into this discussion for no apparent reason.
2. showing ignorance on a subject and wont let it go and admit they are wrong.
The ignorance part. Only way to be "Automatic Mode" is a fully automatic gun....means you hold trigger down and that act alone fires multiple bullets or all of the bullets in the gun. Which those guns have been highly regulated for YEARS.... and for good reason. You need to pass a totally different background check to own these and I believe renew that license every few years but not 100% sure.
A "bump stock" still requires the trigger to be "pulled". The stock is the mechanism that is moving the trigger not your finger... hence it is "bumping" and your finger is stationary. It uses inertia of the bullet to move the stock to do so not your finger. So it is a semi-automatic and can't be automatic mode. It is still pulling the trigger once and one bullet fired. It is just like I mentioned prior about how some trigger assemblies have been made illegal because quick reset of the trigger. So it is quicker to fire that one shot one trigger pull. There has been people that have shot a regular AR and an AR with a bump stock about the exact same speed. So "automatic mode" isn't synonymous with a bump stock.... again... ignorance. AUTOMATIC MODE = AUTOMATIC I put it caps because it can't be any simpler. If you wanted to be accurate. You say that a bump stock helps a semi-automatic gun reset trigger and cycle faster. Because that is what it does. Just like modified trigger assemblies.
A civilian AR only has fire and safe. No "automatic mode". Even if you put on a bump stock. If you get the permit/licensing to own a "full automatic" version of the AR. Those guns can have a switch that says: Fire, 3 round burst, full auto and safe.
If you have every hunted.... spray and pray isn't accurate at all. Even if things are "packed" or "fish in barrel" type situation like you mentioned. The main issue the more I think about it was that people had no clue where to go during the chaos of it all. They didn't know exactly where the shots were coming from. Didn't know which direction to run right away.... etc. So they stood around to allow them to be targets longer. Which increases the body count, rounds fired, etc. If I am not mistaken wasn't the chaos something like 20 mins long or something like that. Could have been longer.
Regardless. It was a fucking tragedy carried out by a fucking nut job that we will never know why he planned it or did it. The banning of the whole bump stock to me i am 50/50 on. I really don't see a use for it other than a good time at the range. But I understand that "banning" them only leads to banning more accessories for firearms. Next is pistol grips, pistol braces (which they are trying to ban but help handicap people), next will be red dot sights, etc.
You think I have TDS for mentioning Trump but what you totally missed is I was giving him CREDIT for banning bump stocks. Jesus F. Christ.
I wasn't really trying to defend myself re the bump stock, simply to explain what I meant. I guess I should have abjectly apologized for not being perfect in my knowledge of the term. Next time I will be sure to sufficiently grovel in order to avoid your wrath.
But I DO know the difference between fully automatic, semi-automatic and what a bump stock does. You lecture was really not needed.
In the future please try to be less condescending and supercilious. Otherwise I will simply not engage.
No not really hypersensitive.
Just you had to bring Trump into it when he didn't need to be brought up at all.
You were the one who were the one who brought up the Vegas and mentioned "automatic mode". Which I hate when people talk about automatic guns when they are not. I might have gone overboard on that. But that is a pet peeve of mine. It is a part of spreading misinformation type thing with firearms. People hear "automatic" and think it is an automatic weapon when it wasn't. Just like when people think AR is assault rifle. I give you credit for not saying that. GOOD JOB. Big thumbs up for that.
If you can't tell I am a big 2A guy. But I also understand about keeping guns away from nut jobs. If you want to talk about this one. Well if he was actually diagnosed with CTE or committed he shouldn't have gotten a gun or his CCW permit. But to go on a mild tanget. Law makers fucked us all over when they shut down asylums. Now I am not talking about the 60's one flew over the coo koos nest type. But the mental hospitals that can and do help people. There needs to be a record. This will help. Also there is a fine line... reason I say this is all it would take is a vengeful partner to say..... he is a nut and I want him evaluated.... boom your on a list and cant possess a firearm. So is a slippery slope.
Something needs to be done. Especially with the kids/adults that are the MEDICATED generation getting to the gun buying and owning generation right now. You know ADHD crowd.
Especially when you CONTINUE to misrepresent what I said about Trump despite my having corrected you. What about having intended to give him CREDIT for banning bump stops do you continue to fail to understand?
And I never said I thought the LV gunman's weapon was automatic. What is so hard to comprehend that in my mind "automatic mode" signified a bump stock? Obviously I should just have said that and your head wouldn't have exploded. You might want to reflect on how easily triggered you are especially when someone didn't even intend to do it.
is that the weapon used was an assault rifle, which they have been trying to ban from private ownership ever since the Viet Nam war.
First of all the first ARs by Armalite were made in the late 1950s. But efforts to ban them didn't start until the1980s and 90s, well after the Viet Nam War.
Actually if you want to get "technical" (and history is so fun).
In 1968 after JFK was killed they passed a law to "define" what a machine gun was and made it more strict or defined what "destructive" devices were (grenades, bombs, etc). Also they implemented a ban on "importing" guns that didn't have a "sporting purpose". Plus made it you have to be 21 to purchase a hand gun and also many of the laws now on the books....ie: felons can't own guns, ATF laws with serial numbers on guns, etc.
So yeah... people bringing guns back from Nam type thing this would be apart of.
Then in 1986 a bill was introduce to protect gun owners.... no national registry type thing and gun dealers could sell guns at gun shows.
then in 1993 the fucking brady bill.
and then all the bull shit we have now and what they are trying to do now.
But yeah..... history is fun.
What exactly is that? I'm not aware of any efforts to regulate guns. I don't think a majority exists for that.
Right here is exactly what I am talking about in another thread where you take one thing and ignore others.
You are saying they are not trying to regulate guns.... ARE YOU BLIND. State by State.
In Congress every year someone brings up gun laws to committee or even for a vote. They throw them into bills but they get shot down ASAP. They try to get put in back door legislation type or piggyback on other things.
You never hear about much of them because they get defeated on the national level. But they try ammunition age laws, ammunition taxes, permit laws, permit requirements, length of gun laws, use permits, etc.
EVERY YEAR.
In states many times things pass. In the USSR of Minnesota shit has passed.
GO BACK AND READ WHAT I WROTE. I did NOT say "they are not trying to regulate guns." I SAID I was "not aware" of any such efforts. And I meant that literally. But you somehow twisted it.
You make it really hard to have a rational discussion when you mis-understand and mis-interpret what I very clearly say.
But thanks for the link.
Are you aware that many of the new gun laws referenced in your article strengthen gun rights? Not all, but some.
Correct. But many also infringed on some.
You want me to start posting the ones in MN. Like if you want to borrow someone's gun you technically have to "transfer" it to them unless you are physically with them. Unless a direct relative... son/daughter type thing.
So if I had an uncle who comes up to visit and wanted to go duck hunting for the day while I'm off at work and needs to borrow a shot gun. I need to "transfer" that gun to him. Otherwise I am breaking the law.
or the "right to retreat" bill. In MN if you are in your home and can exit out the back door.... you can't defend your property or yourself with a firearm.
Things like that are taking away rights of gun owners. Those might not be direct "GUN LAWS" for purchasing. But they are laws.
Then like I mentioned every year ammo taxes are brought up, gun taxing or permit laws are brought up, barrel length, magazine capacity, accessory limitations, scope magnifications, trigger restrictions, etc. All are being brought up in committee at state and federal levels.
Please explain "trigger restrictions." I have an M1911 Colt, about 40 years old, that was my Dad's. It is legally registered to me, which took time and effort. These come with a 5+ lb. trigger pull, which makes them very difficult to fire accurately because it's hard to fire the gun without jerking it, completely screwing up accuracy. So I had a highly competent gunsmith modify it to a 3 lb. pull. I wonder if the law to which you refer would make it illegal?
For AR 15's there are modified triggers you can buy that make them fire very fast.... kind of like bump stock. So a light trigger that when you fire the recoil almost has enough energy to make it fire again. Also think of the movie Sacrio where Benico Torres does the pistol trigger thing on the guy in the street at the beginning of the movie. Like that. cant remember if that was 1 or 2. Yeah... now illegal or they are trying to make them illegal.
They are trying to make pistol bracing illegal.
Lots of stuff like that.
The issue is when they make those illegal.... then they come after the modifications on that 1911 or a bolt action rifle because it is a light trigger.
CA already has magazine size. Can people in CA have a 15+1.... NOPE... can't buy them anymore. Not sure if you can own them.
Correct. They are more focused on the weapon. But I did notice they are not just saying AR anymore since many are catching on to that bullshit that it doesn't stand for "assault rifle". Well only the ignorant. But they directly called it by possibly the correct name or make.... and M4. Which they are trying to associate it closer to "military" style. So if someone "googles" M4 it will pop up military right away. Not your ruger or what every company make of that style gun.
NOW I will go on a little rant with the gun industry. They are partially to blame. They are making more guns look "military" than ever. Look at shotguns... more and more "tactical" ones being produced. More with rails so you can put different red dot type sights on them. Same goes for bolt action rifles. Now your novice shooter only needs your standard old 700 Model Rem bolt action type rilfe (range shooter, hunter, etc). But nope look at how they are making them. Raised or adjustable cheek pad, rail system, folding or adjustable stocks, pistol grips, etc.
They are doing all of this to make the guns look like CALL OF DUTY GUNS.... and what not. So kids will want them or "gamers". They are making them "look cool". Now they do have function. But your novice has no clue. You regular hunter doesn't need all that shit. They are making things... "TACTIC COOL". Same goes for your AR's and all the accessories. Hell at the range I hear people talk more about the things on their AR's than how they can shoot them. They have all the gizmos and gadgets but can't hold a solid grouping at 30 yards with a rest the size of a paper plate.
Anyways I will get off my soap box.
