Americans United for Seperation of Church and State has threatened a lawsuit against Cherokee County school board for the graduation being held in a church. I didnt realize that walking across a stage to accept a diploma that happened to be a church established any religion. The school board voted not to cave to these bullies and keep the graduation at the church, as it is the most economical and has the most space for their needs.
Were all the religious icons removed, leaving only bare walls and windows...I think not. Were there any non-belivers among the graduates? Were their rights offended?
No graduates complained, nor their families. It was an outsider, as usual. Also, the grads had a choice, and could opt out and receive their diplomas anyway. This is just grandstanding by the AU.
Nobody from the "threatening organization" bothered to show up to the board meeting which just makes them another liberal blow-hard organization just trying to stir up trouble. A building becomes a Church only when one or more persons are there for the express purpose of worshiping God. Church's have been used for years to host community activities that are non-church related. As for Willy's comment, a mosque would never be used for a graduation because as I understand it, anyone who believes differently from the Muslims would not be allowed to congregate for anything but to visit or worship. Charlie, I'll pray for you.
