Bush waits for a one week recess to nominate Sam Fox as ambassador to Belgium.
Totally belligerent of Bush, but he has the constitutional right to do it.
Not very humble, subtle or bipartisan. The more things go wrong for him, the more he's going to piss people off.
he stood up for himself and pushed back. The only way he will accomplish anything is to ignore the Dems and push thru as much as he can.
He could be the loathed person in America before he's done.
It's what happens when there's a pathetic leader.
Whenever there is any diplomatic announcement, there is always a clarification within the countries involved.
She definitely didn't show more haplessness than Condie did during the Israeli invasion of Lebanon. Her "birth pangs of a new Middle East" announcement is hard to beat for being out of touch.
Now there's a Republican Congressmen visiting Syria. In other words, Bill, despite the fact that the president has all the constitutional authority to conduct foreign affairs, Bush has lost so much credibility that people everywhere are cutting him out of the loop. Not just in American foreign policy, but in the international community as well.
That's known as extreme failure, Bill. When you have the legal authority, but people tired of seeing you fuck it up.
Bush's legacy has arrived early.
With his war going so abysmally, the loss of his rubber stamp House & Senate and the general decline in public confidence in him; poor o'l Laura Bush probably wishes she was still a humble librarian.
with Bush's apparent lack of humility.
I don't want a humble President.
I want one who is going to LEAD and fight for what is right.
And Bush has not done nearly enough of either.
But that's not why I've been mentioning it.
I don't know if you were hibernating in November, but did you know he got his ass kicked? Do you remember he offered to be bipartisan-- after spending 6 years dry-fucking the democrats? That's when I first said, "I've never seen Bush humble, I don't if he can do it."
Though Lincoln did a good job of being humble while fighting for what was right. But we're probably not going to see anybody as skilled as Lincoln in our lifetimes.

he's had olive branches coming out of every orifice and the Dems just cut them off and try to whip him with them.
He refuses to get down and dirty and fight with the dems. He always seems to be turning the other cheek. Maybe now he will stand up.
We do indeed live in two different worlds.
What alternative universe have you been living in for the past six years?
Thanks for contributing.
I remember you thought Webb wasn't insulted.
And you have been reading what Bush says and not looking at what he does.
I was a little encouraged when he met with Congressional Democrats, and when he began to call the Party the Democratic Party again. Since then, he tried to dictate to Congress that Carl Rove "testify" only out of the public eye, with no record, and not be put under the burden of telling the truth.
However, if he was offering olive branches in 2000, Congress was Republican then, wasn't it? What I saw was that he was speaking nicely while kicking the democrats under the table. What actually happened was, his men would sneak things into bills, not on the Congressional floors, but the night before the vote.
He has been as respectful to Democrats as he has been to international treaties, which he has canceled blithely. That's an insult to any lawmaker, Republicans included-- but in Congress, they Dubya's bitch.
He has unilaterally refused to follow stipulations in the bills signs, just by fiat-- like he is Augustus Caesar.
There were a lot of other things. Republicans in Congress did their level best to totally cut the Democrats out of the loop. They had Bush behind them all the way.

That's nan-nah twice. As you said, the more his ratings go south, the more he is being bitter and doing the "I'll show you" routine, hoping a Repug gets elected in 2008 and doesn't replace these guys.
Oh, but it's the DEMS who do the partisan politics. He's not ike that at ALL!
...threatening to break up the game by taking his marbles and going home.
yea, ok, so bush did this, pelosi did that.
and we are still not winning the war on terror... not that ANYONE is noticing.
See Z, in the demo world.... two wrongs make a right, so I guess Bush is just going along with them.
Bush is counter-productive in cutting Syria out of the loop about Iraq.
What about terrorism that isn't "state sponsored?" The guys who pulled 9/11 were by and large, Saudis. That "state" didn't sponsor anything, though the Wahabis there very well did.
The Taliban might have given Al-Qaida a place to train, and a bit of money but most of Afghanistan is a backward, desolate wasteland. Al-Qaida could easily put camps anywhere there even if the state doesn't sponsor it. They could easily finance it with the drug trade: none of that is state-sponsored. Would you call neo-Nazi militias in our country "state sponsored terrorists?" They certainly operate in our borders and use our banks.
The problem is, you could have very destructive terrorism that is not state sponsored at all. When it is state-sponsored, why not call it by its real name: espionage?
the middle east. Clearly they know what is going one... and permit it with a wink and a nod.
My comment was about the fact that Nancy P took a trip - which she had a legitimate right to take - and then she took it upon herself to open her mouth and represent another country! Whether he said those words or not, she should not have said them without a letter or a document that indicated that was his intent.
AMATEUR! that is what she is... AMATEUR.
And Z - the terrorists are loosely linked... as an organization - so to tell ya the truth, if they are in a country - wanted or not, as far as I can tell, they are supported by that country. UNLESS that country actively monitors the activity... and yes, the FBI does monitor the activity. Sometimes we do not like the results, but sometimes they make quiet arrests - and they DO protect us, even from ourselves.
Espionage? ??? terrorism... dude, look at the official definition of terrorism.
Espionage is the gathering of facts or information... Terrorism is the act of harming people (usually civilians) for ideological gain.
Dude, take the pills, they will allow you to look things up BEFORE you post.
I don't know what I was thinking. Not my at my best.
Some countries do not have the wherewithal to monitor anything. Even our good buddies the Pakistanis can't monitor the villages in those mountains, though some of it might be a lack of will, the practicality of it isn't there. The Saudis hardly have the choice about cracking down on the Wahabis, though it was the Wahabis that attacked us on 9/11.
There are enough failed states to run training camps in. Certainly the Taliban supported Al-Qaeida within its borders; I'll note though that half their country was in anarchy too. Al-Qaeida could have functioned there anyway with more difficulty-- and apparently still does.
Bizzaro, if I took my pills before posting, I would have my face down on the keyboard drooling, so stop that riff please.
think the U.S. circa the late 1850's! early 1860's.... I would not wish to be part of the Saudi royal family.
that started the whole thing?
Talk about revenge and petulence?
No vote allowed by the Dems for Fox 'cause he contributed to those unfair, nasty swift boaters.
Or was it his contribution to Leiberman?
And he's opposed to all those kind of organizations. He did remember to say that.
...and your nomination hearing is not a good time to be drinking the fifth. Do that after your in office, not before.
Whatever it says about Kerry, it did bring out a few important things about the guy's integrity. Where he didn't have the guts to set the fifth down and simply tell Kerry, yeah, I did it to sink your campaign. You talk about the time to strap on a manly pair and fight for what you believe is right.
