Has anyone ever wondered why your average American seems dumbfounded when asked any question about the rest of the world?

Maybe it's because Americans are simply not told about what goes on in the rest of the world.

when American Exceptionalism is pushed in practically every corner. And, given the average U.S. citizen probably doesn't care unless s/he has business or relatives overseas. At least 80% of our news is of tabloid nature. Most oversea news is bad news regarding millions of starving displaced people, many of whom are being raped and murdered. Now, who wants to know about that?
