I always felt when trump got out of the TPP that there must have been some underlying reason.With our partnerships with some Asia Pacific countries, Mexico and Canada included. TPP was designed to put the reins on China. For companies to expand in the region with tax benefits. Now with TPP dead,China has partner with some of the countries who were with us on TPP and formed their own alliance called the RCFP.
It's too early to tell but I'm beginning to see China's influence in the region, say with Vietnam....
I could only see this move making China more of an economic power, fuck they even got Japan in the mix..no bueno

say is true about Trump, but Its pretty common for the seller to pay the shipping from China when manufacturing for major brand names.  They are willing to take a thinner margin to be able to say they manufacture for (insert name of designer).

What you're describing as the seller paying for the shipping is shipping via CIF,CIP. Most companies ship via FOB. it's gives the buyers more flexibility and cost less if you have a good logistic coordinators. That's a topic all it's own
Tariffs are paid by the buyer, most tariffs cost are expected and are padded in the cost.Once the tariffs exceed what was allocated in cost, then depending the company's margin goals, then some companies will either absorb the cost,split with the customer or all is pass to the customer. It depends on the relationship between buyer and seller.
In my case, trump hit my business sector with 2 increases. there was a third one planned but he backed out of that one, The first hit we split with our vendors in China, the last hit was passed to the customer.

You are exactly right!  Tariffs are a tax passed on to consumer.  Obama put a tariff on all Chinese tires because they had flooded our market with junk tires;  and he was trying to help the American tire companies compete.  Overnight the price of tires doubled and all American companies went up too.  Now there is no descent American tire companies, except Goodyear and there tires are manufactured overseas.  It's like damn if they do, damn if they don't
