And as a point/counterpoint to George W. refusing to serve in Vietnam, even though he was "for" the war, we now have some GIs claiming the following threat by the Army: Re-enlist or face redeployment to Iraq (see below link).

Wow- that is total shite!  But I am not prepared to blame that on W, more likely some stupid Colonel or Brigadier thinks "pour ecourager les autres" actually works!

But it is indicative of the tone set by Rummie and his ilk.  A love of use of force without a love of the personnel who actually get it done.  Seldom has an administration been so nasty to its own troops while using them so much.

But I am sure that's OK with all the Gung ho types here- they're out, so screw the boys who are still in- they should do what their told and like it!  Far from my Dad and Grand-dad who told me never to rest until my men were taken care of (and their horses as well- it was service a while ago).

Well, you have to remember that the George W. administration is just as eager to short-change veterans on their medical treatment, despite long-standing promises to provide care. I think that it's now a six month wait for a veteran to receive his first medical appointment with a VA Hospital doctor.

I worked for some time at a VA Hospital, and one of the most poignant scenes was seeing severely injured vets wheeling themselves because there were no orderlies to help them.

George W. has chronically underfunded the VA system, making no secret of their desire to sell off the hospitals and throw these vets to the mercy of the 'private' system. Maybe a Kerry administration, with the return of Max Cleland as head of the VA, could help redeem those promises made to these men and women.

``I can't see them as a high priority target for Al Qaeda.''

Apparently, NEITHER are they a priority for this ``Compassionate Republican'' administration.

Careful what you wish for, Bribites.  Invest that $150 K wisely - lest you be cared for by some Neighbor.

Btw, Carl, I understand you were just being honest.  Still, I'd prefer having someone with a more hopeful attitude.
