You make sound like Planned Parenthood only does abortions. Are you aware of the other services they provide?
"Is the perfect example of the "low information voter" (that, they tell me is the best description of most undecided voters. ) After we'd finished our activities and were getting dressed, she mentioned the election....she is voting for Obama (she's 21). She said, I was going to vote for Romney, but the other day somebody told me that he was going to get rid of Planned parenthood and that's real important to me." I mentioned Libya and she had never heard about the ambassador and others being killed. One vote for her and one vote for me".
Ya know Will there are probably a lot more "uninformed" voters out there than "informed" voters, unfortunately. A lot of people just get whatever info from their friends, who are also "uninformed" and heard someone say "I don't like him" so they don't vote for him, they have no idea of "the issues", oh maybe they'll look at one or two and think, OK thats it, instead of looking at the full spectrum and doing their "due diligence" and then making an intelligent decision. The preponderance of people who have no idea even what "the amendments" are. (I was speaking with a young lady, well not that young, she was well into her 40's) the other day and told her to read the "the amendments" for our state, so she would know what they were, before going in to vote, she said "huh, what's that, I'm like, breath deep Cherie, LOL so I wouldn't go off the deep end. I gave her a list of the amendments that was mailed to everyone in FLorida, and told her to read them so she would know what she wanted. She says, "oh hell, thats too much shit to deal with". So, yes, we do live in a society where the majority of people live their lives and care nothing about the outside, until it smacks them upside of the head.
And just for a little added fun:

You did not list any. Whether this young lady heard it fro some one or became aware of it some other way, it is an issue for many young women. Mittens did say, he will cut funding for Planned Parenthood.
Why is it not an issue? May not be to you but to her it is and she is voting accordingly.
List some issues you think are important and who is going to what. Mittens hasn't said or provided details on anything other than "TRUST ME" and some vodoo balancing the budget. Not single economist has agreed. They can't the lire hasn't provided nothing to work with.
Of course being a Libertarian, I believe a smaller, less intrusive government would be the way for America to grow and prosper. We need to cut our debt, (Our status as a debtor nation is the single greatest threat to our national security and our children's future. We have more government than we can afford. We simply cannot tax and borrow our way to prosperity) not by the government taking on more spending or by building roads, and making way for green energy etc., not because it is not needed, but because the private sector is and always will be the most effective innovators. (Think Alexander Graham Bell, Henry Ford, Jonas Salk and, of course, our contemporaneous innovators Mr Gates and Mr Jobs) Our Federal Government needs to be focusing on National Security particularly at this juncture in history, with the precarious nature of what is going on in our world.
I know and understand that the social issues have long figured prominently in presidential politics, sometimes trumping all other issues, I also understand they are important for people, (it is also easier for a lot of people to discuss, thus, lets them off the hook for the crucial matters du jour) but they are also matters that should stay within the confines of our Judiciary Branch and not interfere in the province of our Executive Branch.
Lets face it, this election has been and will be most certainly of a very contentious nature.
"If the election were held today, national and statewide polls indicate there might well be a split decision, President Obama winning the Electoral College and Republican Mitt Romney carrying the popular vote. Activists on both sides are braced for Election Day problems over new voter procedures in such key states as Virginia and Ohio. And a razor-close finish automatically would prompt recounts in Colorado, Florida, Ohio and elsewhere".
No matter who the victor, I just hope, we can all be adult enough to move on and just be able to discuss issues and policies that are important to us, not lambast others because their opinion is different, because in the final analysis, WE ARE ALL AMERICANS and we need to UNITE or we surely will go down in history just like the Romans.

I have little hope of us acting like adults, (witness this board as a microcosm), for we are very much like the Romans, whomever is elected "Emperor" is in a position to distribute the spoils of the government to their friends.
As for focusing on National Security that usually is a dog whistle for increasing military spending. How much more do you want? We already spend more then the next 9 countries combined and most of those are our allies (UK, France, Japan, and Germany at least, more if you add Brazil, Saudia Arabia and India). Who are we afraid of?
Libertarianism has the basic belief of Karl Marx's, "Das Capital" in which he states that the eventually in the egalitarian society communism builds, the state will become unnecessary and wither away. Libertarian belief is pretty much the same when it comes to the state. The fundamental difference being Equal Tax, the problem with consumption tax, for example is that, the taxes will end up being higher than cost of the product and no one will be able to afford.
Have you ever looked at Macro Econometric model using Libertarian economics, it is truly stunning disaster. It does not converge to a rational answer.
As far as Planned Parenthood, it goes back to taking responsibility for oneself. Why should I pay for someone, who can't even put on a condom or make sure their partner has one on. Not expensive at all. IT IS CALLED PERSONAL RESPONSIBILTY.
You make sound like Planned Parenthood only does abortions. Are you aware of the other services they provide?
If you list everything some else more aptly society pays for you in your every day life and answer those questions honestly, why should someone else and society pays for, you will answer your own question.
There are many things society have to pay for in order sustain civilized society as we know today. If not, the so called civilized society will cease to exist. Not that, it has not happened before. It happened to Rome then to Greece.
Whenever someone asks me that question, my answer always is " I do not know" why? If they haven't figured out the why, and are myopic in their world view, I can try to explain till I turn gray and become as old as Yoda, they still won't get it.
Something you have to answer yourself, no else can and this question is one of those!
Government should not have to pay for "personal responsibility." If "nature's forces" pull two people together and their genetalia instead of their brain is working then they should take responsibility for their genetalia's conduct, just as, if our brain malfunctions, then we are held accountable. Why should I be responsible for your genetalia?
That is what separates us from animals of the wild.
