...The vets joined the 5,000 other "water protectors," comprised of Native Americans from 300 tribes and environmentalists.

Kenny Nagy, a 64 year-old Vietnam vet said: "It’s history in the making.  We’re going to be actually helping out people of the United States instead of corporations. I am so ready. The whole world is watching."

Donald Trump is in favor of the pipeline.  When he heard that Nagy wants to help people instead of corporations, he tweeted: "'I hear' that Vietnam vet is still suffering from jungle fever.  Very sad.  I also hear that Vietnam veterans are 'highly overrated.'"

Apparently, the vets help has worked.  The Army Corps of Engineers today refused to grant an easement to allow the pipeline to go under Lake Oahe.  For God and Country!!

With so many people hurting right now in our country, I think Trump is trying to start up our economic engine. I think Trump won with vets too.

The ACOE determined that running the pipeline under the Missouri would be too high a risk. A breach could pollute the water for a lot of people, could not only reach Sioux City but could cause problems all the way down to Omaha. Of course the Lakota people's land and water are reason enough, and it is a strong win for First Nations.

As far as the environmentalist contingency who wanted to stop the pipeline altogether, maybe they were misinformed. Given that the oil is there, and going to be moved to refineries, a pipeline leaves a much smaller carbon footprint than a fleet of trucks grinding up and down the freeway 24/7/365.

Besides, that crusade belongs in the same basket as declaring world peace and a resolve to satisfy world hunger.

Besides we've already lost the global warming war. By the time today's newborn reaches retirement the world will hardly be worth living on, let alone squabbling over. So the idea now is to cope as best we can. The pipeline can find an alternative route. You'd be surprised how inventive those bloated oil tycoons can be when push comes to shove. Some say the could run it straight down and bridge an elevated at Silver Creek. Tons of options.

...but that plan was rejected for several reasons, one important one being its potential threat to Bismarck’s water supply.  IOW, don't fuck with the white man's water; move the pipeline to Injun territory.  If there's a spill there - BFD.

You don't think the indigenous folks aren't being a little xenophobic, or should have been more xenophobic in the past?
