Subject:  Stimulus Checks Explained

Sometime this year, we taxpayers will again receive another 'Economic
   Stimulus' payment.

This is indeed a very exciting program, and I'll explain it by
   using a Q & A format:

   Q. What is an 'Economic Stimulus' payment ?

   A. It is money that the federal government will send to taxpayers.

Q.. Where will the government get this money ?

   A. From taxpayers.

   Q. So the government is giving me back my own money ?

   A. Only a smidgen of it.

   Q. What is the purpose of this payment ?

   A. The plan is for you to use the money to purchase a
high-definition TV set, thus stimulating the economy.

   Q. But isn't that stimulating the economy of China ?

   A. Shut up.

Below is some helpful advice on how to best help the U.S. economy by
   spending your stimulus check wisely:

   * If you spend the stimulus money at Wal-Mart, the money will
go to China or Sri Lanka ...

   * If you spend it on gasoline, your money will go to the Arabs.

   * If you purchase a computer, it will go to India , Taiwan or China .

   * If you purchase fruit and vegetables, it will go to Mexico ,
   Honduras and Guatemala ..

   * If you buy an efficient car, it will go to Japan or Korea .

   * If you purchase useless stuff, it will go to Taiwan .

   * If you pay your credit cards off, or buy stock, it will go
to management bonuses and they will hide it offshore.

Instead, keep the money in America by:

   1) Spending it at yard sales, or

   2) Going to ball games, or

   3) Spending it on prostitutes, or

   4) Beer or

   5) Tattoos.

(These are the only American businesses still operating in the U.S. )

   Conclusion:

Go to a ball game with a tattooed prostitute that you met at a yard
sale and drink beer all day !

No need to thank me, I'm just glad I could be of help

The Brewing Company Anheuser-Busch InBev is a owned by Denmark. So, If you buy Beer, there is a 90% chance your money will go to Denmark and if you are Bud guy, 100%.

You harp on it every chance you get, why?   We promoted for more than 200 years. Stopping free trade and be like Myanmar is the solution to our problems or are you of the belief that we cannot effectively compete in the world on products, engineering, science and education? What is it?

Historically economic isolation has not worked for any country. One point I would agree is there are some imbalances like Most Favored Nation Status for China. It was fine 20 or even 10 years ago, it may be time to scrap it now since they are running trade surplus and we are running deficit in trade and current account balance.

You do know that Citgo is owned by Hugo Chavez.

I just wished this administration would publicly endorse natural gas. We have well over 100 years of supply in this country. It's the cleanest of the fossil fuels.

Very few American industries left? How about IBM, Cisco, Google, Microsoft, Caterpillar, United Technologies, etc. I can go on and on. Spend some time in Europe, Asia and South America, and you will see these U.S. companies and others. Just as Toyota, Honda, BMW have plants in the U.S., a number of U.S. companies have plants overseas. Welcome to globalization. You can rant about free trade all you want, but it's not going to change.

And yes, which guy doesn't like tats. If it ain't medically enhanced, then it's probably from that fructose syrup you hate.

How dare you correct our illustrious Speaker of the House??? lmao

The US with all it's current problems is still the dominant economy on the planet. Globalization has been here for a long time. Hiding our heads in the sands was a bad idea when Pat Buchanan endorsed it, and it's an even worse idea today.

She gave a press conference today talking about yesterday's summit and health care going forward. She described the Republican approach as the "itsy bitsy spider (she actually used her fingers just like in the nursery rhyme), and also used the words "teenie weenie". I honestly think all that botox has seeped into her itsy bitzy brain. We need to have some better or different qualifications when someone is running for office.

No country has ever prospered with protectionist trade policies. China and India are great examples. Both were bottom feeding countries with huge foreign debt (at least India). India opened up its economy in the 90's and that is when economy started going upward.

Do understand the book you point out but it is based on a single theory and does not depict whole picture.

Protectionism leads to black markets because people want stuff they can't get and traders will get it for them at price. You can take look at the countries with restrictive trade policies.

There are huge complex issues with free trade starting with comparative advantage.

Free trade is not the real problem, how it is implemented by politicians is the real issue.

There have been a lot of changes in the last 15 years, but one constant is that the US has a very mature oil business, and there are few undiscovered fields left to be exploited in this country.

Since the writing of your article, energy prices have quadrupled and some of the uneconomic shales has become quite profitable, but are still quite expensive to produce.

Citgo is owned by the Venezuela.  It's not a publicly traded company and does not sell shares to the public.

1. Firearms. Due to import regulations, most firearms purchased by Americans are made right here!  Brands include Colt, Ruger, Smith and Wesson, Marlin, Bushmaster, Springfield Armory and more.

2. Leather goods. Lots of leather goods are made right here as well, due to the supply of hides from the food industry.

3. Gold and Silver. There are a couple of very productive gold and silver mines in the U.S.

4. Books. Many books are printed right here due to low paper costs. Some are even worth reading, but YMMV.

5. Certain clothes and shoes. Check out Alden Shoe, Northern Woolens and LongHornJeans for starters.

6. Wire and cable. A lot of wire and cable are made here as well!

7. Pharmaceuticals!  American biotech makes lots of drugs.

8. All sorts of agricultural stuff!  We make lots of seed, fertilizers (organic and non) etc etc etc here. In fact, import regulations can make importing some of this stuff difficult.

9. Good Toys. Check out Karmel Games, Vermont Teddy Bear, Maple Landmark Woodcraft, etc etc.

Bottom line ... although I like the post and can CERTAINLY support buying some time with a genuine Made in USA woman ... there are other American products that are well worth our support as well.

:-)

Once the empire was established, took raw materials form colonies and sold back products to colonies.

People in colonies worked in mines and people in UK worked in factories.

Let me spell it out for you, British restrictive trade policy was not to let the colonies produce any end products, just raw materials.

Being raised in a Common Wealth country, I have seen the effect.

All your examples are flawed. Both Argentina and Mexico has corrupt political system, lack of education, screwed up social policies. Argentina specifically has 80% of its population in Buenos Aires and vast swaths of farm land in the interior.

Majority of GM profit came from China, look it up.

When was the last legitimate political system in Haiti since the French left?

One last work on the British Empire, the crown did not establish any colonies, all were chartered by the crown. Once the colonies were established, the crown took it over. When UK became democratic, they kept the colonies and established the raw material ----> Production----> export to colonies model.

After the Korean War, US built S. Korea with massive aid.

For any system to succeed, there has to be working political system that is uncorrupt, and socially responsible otherwise, free trade, capitalism, communism, socialism or dictatorship, does not work. How does Kadaffi stay in power? How does the many of the kings in the middle east stay in power?

Kazakhstan and most of the Central countries have plenty of energy resources, why aren't they progressing economically or socially?

The idea of equating global climate change with severe cold and snow is absurd. It is taking cause of severe cold and snow to prove the opposite.

People in many countries believe everyone in America is rich, have mansions, 4 cars and wanting for nothing. Indeed it is true from their vantage point. Is it really true?

Drug prices will drop immensely. No more extensive testing. No more patents. Let the free market decide what they want to buy.

Food prices will also drop as an added bonus.

the sooner we become effective. In post war Industrial Economy, US dominated. Industries were destroyed in Europe and most of Asia and Africa did not have any industries. The effect was that, the amount of resources used for production didn't matter because you could always make profit.

In past sixty years, industries were rebuilt, new ones established in Asia and Latin America and comparative advantage came into play.

Why is Brazil able to export more beef? They have large fertile farm (delta fed by the Amazon) land, plenty of rain and water, favorable weather allowing production, farming year around; in essence they have comparative advantage because they can produce the product cheaper due to geography, climate, and other natural resources that cannot be duplicated elsewhere.

What does colonialism and climate change in common besides both starting with "C'.

You have some fucked up view of the world. Most of your facts about British Colonialism is incorrect. Astride is the worst thing that happened to Haiti, most corrupt in the end.

You lost me on the Gulf Stream, dude.
