Sources say that Obama was pro-Walz.  Shapiro was too Jewish.  Kamala needs all three of Pennsylvania, Michigan and Wisconsin.  They decided they'd possibly lose Michigan in gaining Penn with a Jew.  Haven't heard why Beshear was not in play.  Kelly of Az had divorce troubles and communist china balloon troubles.  Whitmer of Michigan just didn't want to be second fiddle. Her eyes are on 2028.  She would have been trouble for GOP.
.
So I guess Walz was the last man standing -- midwestern, old white male.  They would have probably preferred him to be more moderate rather than a thinly veiled socialist for balance.  But limited alternatives.

Walz had the option to retire from the military and did so when he found out his unit was being called up to deploy to Iraq in 2005. He wasn't just a foot soldier at the time but part of the team leadership. Abandoning his guys apparently rankled some.

It is a fact he served for 24 years and retired before his team was deployed, and it upset some people. The feelings some fellow soulders have of him are not all the same. Some keep him in high regard, but the right leaning Post only wants to show one side, which is the side that paints him as betraying them.

From the same article:

...other service members who led the same battalion have defended him.

“He was a great soldier,” Joseph Eustice, who served 32 years in the National Guard, told the Star Tribune in 2022.

“When he chose to leave, he had every right to leave,” added Eustice, who indicated that other attacks on Walz’s record may have been made by disgruntled soldiers who were passed up for promotions.

Another National Guard member who served under Walz said that the future US lawmaker was eyeing a run for Congress earlier than 2005.

“Would the soldier look down on him because he didn’t go with us?  Would the common soldier say, ‘Hey, he didn’t go with us, he’s trying to skip out on a deployment?’  And he wasn’t,” Al Bonnifield recalled to Minnesota Public Radio of Walz’s concerns about dipping out before the deployment to Iraq.

“He talked with us for quite a while on that subject.  He weighed that decision to run for Congress very heavy [sic],” Bonnifeld added.  “He loved the military, he loved the guard, he loved the soldiers he worked with.”

“We all do what we can.  I’m proud I did 24 years,” Walz has said about his service.

I think Vance has been a drag on Team Trump and I don't really see how Walz helps Kamala. Maybe Lester is correct in that they saw internal polling that Shapiro would hurt her with the Muslim vote and cost her Michigan. If that was the case, my second choice would have been Kelly. Walz wouldn't have been on my list but I am open to see how it plays out as I know very little about him.

Tampon Tim does have a few other accomplishments. He was about to get deployed and retired in a hurry. He managed to get a DUI. He encouraged BLM to burn down Minneapolis while his running mate bailed BLM out of prison. Tampon Tim’s wife gave an interview where she said she loved the smell of burning tired during the BLM riots. And funniest thing of all, after his speech today when his wife came on stage he tried to shake her hand. 😂 Why do dickless leftists have the weirdest relationships with their wives? First of all, Fester is mis-using the term "stolen valor," which is when someone who never served pretends to be a veteran. Walz served for 24 years and isn't pretending anything.
And I'll bet he "ran away" like Harris did from Vance, which you lyingly alleged.
What is it about Republicunts and the truth? They shrink from it.
Please stop lying, Fester.

lester_prairie 12 Reviews 66 reads

Stolen valor means he claimed to have served in a war zone.  He did it by inference -- old articles mention he served in a unit that was deployed to Iraq, leaving the impression he was with the unti when it was in Iraq.  There are also quotes more directly about him saying there is no reason for citizens to have weapons of war like he "carried in war". Was there a war in Italy or China?  Very misleading.
.
Troops who served in war zones from frontline soldiers to rearend cooks, along with their families, are very sensitive to stolen valor.

I never served. It's not my fight, other than as a voter I don't like being lied to.

in an active combat zone is issued a weapon and is trained to use it.  In the case of a "combat" journalist, it was probably a .45 sidearm.  Most western militaries have the same policy.  In the Highland brigades of the British Army, soldiers assigned as bagpipe players are always armed and also expected to engage in combat to repel an enemy offensive.  The same is true in the US Army for cooks, quartermasters, military police and other non-combat MOS's.  You never know when you will be in the line of fire, so everyone has access to a weapon nearly when doing their job in a COMBAT ZONE.

Walz's actions are the definition of stolen valor because he has always claimed he participated in the Iraq War, but is now walking it back to "I was in the Army during the Iraq War," which is clearly intended to mislead others into thinking we served IN the Iraq War, which he didn't.  Vance was in a bonified combat zone, Walz was not.  He retired almost immediately when he heard his unit was being deployed, leaving his unit in a lurch.

The story of the Four Feathers was about the same kind of conduct as Walz.  It was about an officer who, out of cowardice resigned his commission on the eve of deployment, but in his case, he was able to redeem his honor by going to the war zone and saving the lives of his comrades.  Walz has done no such thing.  Trying to draw a parallel between Vance, who went where the Army told him when called to duty, and Walz, the cowardly dropout, is despicable and no one will buy it.

The guy had served for 24 years including two overseas deployments. By the time this one was scheduled he'd clearly been weighing running for Congress and didn't want to wait another two years to make his run. If you read what his fellow soldiers had to say, virtually none of them had an issue with it. Only partisan hacks do.
And once he got to Congress he became an effective advocate for veterans.
As for him carrying a .45, that's unlikely because during Vance's time in Iraq virtually all US troops carried Beretta pistols, which replaced the iconic Colt M1911 in 1986. Smaller caliber but twice as many rounds per magazine.
As you may know, I have an M1911 from the early 80s.
I keep it in my Maserati LOL.

Last I heard, if you carried a rifle you were unlikely to carry a pistol. It's just extra weight and pistols are really hard to aim accurately. Supposedly a long time ago they stopped issuing pistols to anyone near the front for that reason and gave them the light carbines rather than the garands.

My step dad also came down with malaria. They had to travel thru mountainous jungle, not an easy life, and no one could contest his valor. Never the less he would always associate his unit with Merrill's Marauders, also in Bhurma. It was never clear to me how closely the units were related. But the Marauders got all the press so it was just easier for him to associate himself with them. He served in the same godforsaken conditions under enemy fire.
