The polls have closed and, while no one is calling it yet, exit polls suggest Newt will win with 38% of the vote and a double digit lead over Romney.  If this holds up it will be an amazing come-from-behind win and based mainly on Newt's debate performances.
Obama is silently grinning because, at a minimum, it means the Republicans will be bashing each other and not him for some time to come.

You have to love what he did. To use the unsubstantiated allegations of an ex wife to lead off a Presidential debate is really  a no-class, gotch move. I have no idea if the allegations are true, nor do I care, but Newt's comeback was priceless.

Spouses and exspouses opinions are completely irrelevant to me. Either they lie FOR their spouse or exspouse or they lie AGAINST them, depending on their current relationship, either way their opinion is the least relevant, and least objective opinion I can think of.

the news teasers were touting her interview as being "explosive" and "career ending".

In a debate, Newt or Romney will wipe the floor with O'EmptySuit.

however there is nothing to say the Pres will debate. He could probably duck the debates and go to his billion dollar fund and run a tough race.

Newt is a slick politician, has an answer and comeback for anything. Knows the issues better than anyone and is a very polished speaker and one on one as good as they come.

Can he win and what kind of a president will he be. Hell I'm sure I don't know.

First of all, Newt's a great debater but Obama is no slouch.  I would never vote for anyone who refused to debate.

but the people doing the negotation for him on the number, style, subject and questions can just never agree.

Look at the Keystone pipeline deal. State Department killed it, not Obama. Can't blame him. Let Hillary take the heat.

which is why they identify with massdebaters---;)

and so, even, did Jim Carville.  He described it as an amazing feat.  As for the allegations, those will always come up but it made my skin crawl when John King brought them up first thing like that. Newt should thank him because he was given a huge opportunity.  Newt was smart enough to see it and, as Pri said, knocked it out of the park.

Really, his question was, "would you like to respond to that?" Really? Talk about letting Newt off the hook.

Questions about a politicians private life is no place in the public arena, except of course, when it shows you're a hypocrite. And in Newt's case, it shows that in spades. This is the same guy who was impeaching Clinton for fucking a gal who worked for him while bloviating about family values and the sancitity of marriage while he was fucking a gal that worked for him too.

Gingrich is obviously the smartest GOP candidate running. That is crystal clear. But he's also the scummiest.

Priapus532697 reads

Paricularly in re to the CNN debate, Newt was prepared & DYING to get the "open marriage" question; in terms of baseball, it's like a minor league pitcher throwing a slow pitch over the center of the plate to Reggie Jackson in his prime. JUST the "red meat" the "SC yokels" in the audience were dying to hear.

Regardless of that, though, most folks think that Gingrich is a demagogue putz & if he's the nominee, he'll lose to Obama in a landslide.

Gingrich bashing Romney and if he grows a pair Romney hitting back. Santorum will be gone soon enough and as usual Ron Paul will continue to be ignored.

If there was another candidate still in there who could do the same thing Gingrich did in this stanza in the next one, then a carried out fight could be had. There is no one left who will be billed by the establishment as having a chance outside of Gingrich now.

Santorum will be gone soon.

The people who manage this whole staged show will see Obama win in the end and a quick win by Romney in the nomination process would not work as well to ensure the Obama puppet wins. Agreed Obama is smiling, the stringpullers just gave the Bush puppet 8 years, he knows the puppet won't change hands after just 4 years,

I might actually watch the debates now, thus far only watched one, and hope Ron Paul is ready to lay the smack down hard and heavy, with only three candidates they will have to give him more time.

His biggest weakness is his very un-Presidential speaking ability.

He failed miserably, not only did he not hit it out of the park like Newt did. He actually allowed a reporter to make him look like Eric Cartman, "screw you guys, I'm going home"

No, Paul can't stand the spotlight, just like the stripper who can't stand the "light of day" test. Paul wilts under the bright lights and any good ideas he has wilt right along with him.

I will agree Ron Paul doesn't "look Presidential in many aspects, no doubt about it.

But what is looking "Presidential" in the current era?? It is a smooth talking liar who has continually sold this country down the river. It is someone who is smoke and mirrors who tells a good story of what they intend to do but never do anything but serve special interest. Why in the hell do people keep wanting this same model and at the same time fancy themselves that a new result will come of it.

Romney has "used car salesmen" written all over him, clear to see, even if you put him in a dark closet. Santorum is not too far from him. And Gingrich might not have that greasy look, but he is another one that plays to the camera like any other two-bit politician.

I don't know for sure what it is stupidity or cowardice, people being afraid to choose someone that to them might represent something different and an unknown outcome. The sheep are blowing their last chance to avoid slaughter though, surreal to think at even this late hour they had a chance to avoid continuing down the path of destruction, they blew it as they have hundreds of times before.

Newt was suppose to win S.C. all along. He is from Georgia and a favorite with
Southern conservatives. It less clear if it will carry any weight long term. No one knows if it will carry over to Florida.

I just love the press. They say  Santorum wins RI, Romney wins NH and now Newt wins SC. First off Santorum actually won the Iowa caucus 24.6% compared to Romney 24.5% (more like a tie) and Newt 13.3%. Last I looked Iowa gets to vote in the General Election. Romney won NH 39% vs Newt 9% and SC Newt 40% to 28% Romney (early numbers).

Bottom line is this. If it don't translate to dollars to Newt it won't mean much in at the end of the day.

Romney in the election.

Obama would stack up much better against Romney in any debate.

Still, Obama is likely to win over either one of them by a comfortable margin.

have already spent nearly $5 million on advertising in Florida.  No one else has spent a measurable amount.  I guess we'll find out if you can really buy an election.  Also, it's a more moderate state than SC (just about anywhere is) so it should be more Romney-friendly anyway.

Though the pose, except for the hair, reminds me more of Sam the Eagle!   ;)

Once I learned the mysteries of posting pictures.  But, c'mon, aren't mine better?

Eli Manning is a better QB than Alex Smith.  Hell, the Gecko on the GEICO commercials could come up with better quips, cartoons and photos than Pri.
