At a time when taxpaying citizens can't afford college for their kids! And I've found blogs written by these fence jumpers with an overwhelming sense of entitlement that because "they need it" its justified. Well that settles it. Guess I can just steal whatever I want cuz I "need it". We need to plant mines at the borders.  And deport liberal traitors to Mexico who think nothing of selling our sovreignty.

Really? NAFTA wasn't around back when Reagan was President, and we had millions of illegals. Remember how we gave them amnesty then, and our leaders "promised" they would do better at stopping illegal immigration?

Sorry bud, NAFTA does not begin to explain or justify the amount of illegal aliens who come to the United States. One of the arguments used to PASS NAFTA was that it would improve economic conditions in countries that tend to have the highest rates of illegal immigration, thus creating a disincentive to come here illgally. Why go through the trouble and risk of sneaking in here, when there are good paying jobs to be had at home?

We know now that argument was as stupid as the promise from our politicians to crack down on illegal immigration, but it is what it is, and chucking NAFTA isn't going to change a thing. Promising tuition assistance to illegals though, will absolutely encourage ever greater numbers to come here illegally. Exactly what we DON'T need and can't afford.

I agree that a minor child ought not be held responsible for the actions of his/her parents.

HOWEVER -- there are limits to this.

We routinely hold children responsible for criminal actions -- vandalism, rapes, murders, robberies, etc. -- although usually to a somewhat lesser degree. We most assuredly do NOT give them a BONUS for their lawbreaking!

Until a child reaches the age of majority, it is the responsibility of its parents. If its parents have come here illegally, they need to have their asses deported -- and their kids with them!

If, like so many, they have conveniently had "anchor babies" -- those babies are STILL their responsibility, and when they are deported their children go with them.

I understand that many parts of the world are utter disasters in terms of such basics as physical safety and food.

But should that mean that any person on the planet who manages to place a toe on U.S. soil is automatically entitled?

I'm sorry, but the end product of such ideas ends up with there not even BEING a United States!

The simple fact of the matter is that our immigration laws are NOT "broken." They are instead massively -- and deliberately -- not enforced.

The right wingers want cheap and even slave labor.
The left wingers want a ready-made leftists constituency.

BOTH conspire to have virtual non-enforcement of immigration laws in the interests of short-term gain; but at the expense of the long-term destruction of the United States as a country.

I can understand the sentiment of wanting children to be helped. Anyone with a human heart can understand that.

But the moment we agree that any child who places a toe on our soil becomes entitled; we will be taking in every FAS kid out of Eastern Europe, every kid whose mother died from AIDS in sub-Saharan Africa, every child south of the Rio Grande as far as Peru, etc. By the time we are done, the population of what is now known as the Continental U.S. will swell from 300M to 1.4B and we will be just as destitute as the places our new citizens came from.
