How embarrassing, though I doubt there will be any retractions or apologies.

But did the Bush Administration go this far :
''she stands by the report sent to law enforcement that lists veterans as a terrorist risk to the U.S. and defines "rightwing extremism" as including groups opposed to abortion and immigration. ''

''also listed as suspect gun owners and veterans of the Iraq and Afghanistan wars.

Nice to see how the Obama Administration really feels about our vets !
She is an idiot and don't ya feel safe with her as Dir of Homeland Security!

the Bush Administration officials did. Why would she not stand by it unless she had information to refute their findings. Oh, and Timothy McVeigh was in the Army and fought in the first Gulf War. I wonder if they had that in mind?

Have you read the report?  The section on veterans is based on current right wing attempts to recruit returning veterans and the experience following Operation Desert Shield/Storm when disgruntled veterans -- including Timothy McVeigh -- joined right wing radical groups and that these groups are actively recruiting Iraq and Afghanistan vets.

"DHS/I&A assesses that rightwing extremists will attempt to recruit and radicalize returning veterans in order to exploit their skills and knowledge derived from military training and combat. These skills and knowledge have the potential to boost the capabilities of extremists—including lone wolves or small terrorist cells—to carry out violence. The willingness of a small percentage of military personnel to join extremist groups during the 1990s because they were disgruntled, disillusioned, or suffering from the psychological effects of war is being replicated today.

— (U) After Operation Desert Shield/Storm in 1990-1991, some returning military veterans—including Timothy McVeigh—joined or associated with rightwing extremist groups."

BTW, here's a tip: don't rely on the Washington Times for anything approaching news unless you're looking for the Moonies spin on events.

Fox News anchor Neil Cavuto has been trying to make the case that Fox isn't promoting the tea parties but is covering them just like it covers any other large scale protest. Cavuto claimed at least five times on the air that Fox News also covered the Million Man March. The Million Man March took place on Oct. 16, 1995. Fox News went on the air on October 7, 1996. Still Fair and Balanced and wrong.

associate veterans with violent and subversive behavior. This in fact dates back to the civil war. Veterans and gun owners are seen as a threat to the capitalist's lackeys hold on state power.

Now that is hilarious.

It must hurt being on the losing side. It hurts so much. If the economy rebounds they'll be like rabid dogs fighting for every scrap.

Proposed imposition of firearms restrictions and weapons bans
likely would attract new members into the ranks of rightwing extremist groups,
as well as potentially spur some of them to begin planning and training for
violence against the government. The high volume of purchases and
stockpiling of weapons and ammunition by rightwing extremists in anticipation
of restrictions and bans in some parts of the country continue to be a primary
concern to law enforcement.
— (U//FOUO) Returning veterans possess combat skills and experience that are
attractive to rightwing extremists. DHS/I&A is concerned that rightwing
extremists will attempt to recruit and radicalize returning veterans in order to
boost their violent capabilities.

No it was just written by  a career bureaucrat with a left leaning bias :)

Even if it was initially requested by the Bush administration, no serious person would assume that the Obama administration had no input in shaping the tenor and tone of this 10 page report.

Remind me again who it was that broke the story that the Bush administration initiated the report. Oh yea, it was a FOX reporter.

And lastly, where was the DHS Secretary’s press conference outlining the leftwing extremist report that was also commissioned?

Maybe the government wouldn't have anything to be worried about if they hadn't pursued a continuous policy of betraying the American people. The best thing they can do to prevent unrest here at home is to, what an idea this is, actually serve in an honorable and honest, benevolent way.

Of course this would cost them too much so they would rather try to intimidate those who would stand against their tyranny and treason.

And as you debate this on and on, no one still seems to notice who the hell is at the root of this report. The damn hustlers at the Southern Poverty Law Center are going to milk minorities and the left for millions as a result of this.

Morris Dees, Mark Potok, and company at the SPLC have made MILLIONS from "monitoring the activities of 'hate' groups" that in reality pose as much threat to the US government as Richard Simmons does. Certain people on the left have blown the whistle on this scum bag Dees.

Most of the rank and file in the media and government have no idea that the report they are talking so intently about is from an organization headed by a guy (Dees) who was said to have molested his own step-daughter, his ex-wife claimed this during the divorce proceedings, it is in court records, that is unless Dees has had them erased forever.

To sum it up, this is much adue about nothing.

regardless of whatever Washington did or attempted to do.

If it rebounds, President Obama should get no credit. If it stays in the tank, he should not be blamed.

The economy is a far bigger animal than any government and cannot be controlled by any administration.

There was no press conference by the DHS secretary for this latest report and neither was there a DHS press conference in January when the left wing extremism report was issued and reported on by Fox News.

The report in question was dated April 7, 2009. Yes, this was a 10 page summary. The original and full study may very well have been first commissioned by the Bush Administration, but it is THIS report that is under scrutiny, not something else. There's no way anyone can believe that the Obama administration had zero input or not even major input into the wordsmithing of this document.

In fact, the Southern Poverty Law Center weighs in quite favorably on that gov't report, along with the other probs with which the SPLC manfully and unselfishly concerns itself.  Why not serve the gods of consistency and criticize that organization as well?

Here's a  quote :

" The Homeland Security report also raised an issue that has been the subject of SPLC investigations for years — extremists and the military.

The report said that veterans returning to the Untied States "possess combat skills and experience that are attractive to rightwing extremists." The department noted that it is "concerned that rightwing extremists will attempt to recruit and radicalize returning veterans in order to boost their violent capabilities."

The SPLC reported in 2006 that large numbers of potentially violent neo-Nazi skinheads and other white supremacists were joining the armed forces to acquire combat training and access to weapons and explosives. "

Well, i hope the usual suspects here will tear Morris Dees a new asshole with the same fervor and alacrity with which they laid unkind and unfriendly hands upon Sec Napolitano and POTUS Obama.  I'm suspecting though, such will not come to pass.

And i'm totally mistified as to why that is the case.  Especially, in the SPLC's own words, they've been paying attention to the problem "for
years." So WTF is going on here?  Errant BS is errant BS, is it not?  Or, like Orwell, is some errant BS more BSy than other errant BS?

I have a hypothesis, but i'll not be sharing.

Can some targets be safer to attack than others?  Nah, that couldn't be it.
