Well, you can fall back on the laws of unexpected/unintended consequences as a possible expalanation:  the war very well COULD HAVE BEEN totally intended to sieze and rape Iraq'a oil resources, but things not expected got out of hand, and so...  But personally, how anyone thought invadinmg Iraq, destryoying it's infrastructure, pissing off most of it's populace, etc.. was going to lea to the happy payoff of rapidly and phenomenally increased oil output, and hence a fall in world prices, still remains a mystery to me. But I guess you'd have to be a fear-mongering, war-mongering, hate-mongering Neo-Con-Man to believe that fantasy.  Let alone espouse it as a serious policy to be followed by the US gov't.

Or you could go with the old Sherlock Holmes dictum about, once you've eleiminated the impossible, the remaining possibily, no matter how improbable, must be the true cause.

Call me an anti-Semitic bigot if you wish, but I've said this time and again, and i'll croak it out with my last braeth : this war was always intended for the welfare of Israel, to produce a reordered Middle Eastern political environment from which they would benefit.  Democracy and freedom for the Iraqi masses.  Oh Allah, do NOT make me laff, it still hurts too much after 5+ years and counting.

Alan Greenspan ; the role of oil in this war was a;ways underemphasized?  It's clear why A.G. is an economist and not a political scientist or a historian.  It's clear that AG's gov't appointments were Chairman on the CEA and later Chariman of the Federal Reserve, and not National Security Adviser or Secetary of State.

No blood for Oil?  No War For Oil?  Oh, these guys chanting those easy and comforting slogans missed the braod side of the barn by several dozen miles.  I used to chide them ; I told them, any slogan except "No War For Ari" was politically wrong and intellectually bankrupt.  I got nowhere with that.  And you see where we are now?
