I've heard being Jewish is religious, historical, cultural, and identity. Is it one, some of the above, or all of the above?
The best term I've heard is ethno-religious. Jews identify themselves as members of a religious affiliation, but also ancestral heritage.
Look at wikipedia, specifically the early years and education section. They will say something like, "inicky was born to a Jewish family", or a Russian Jewish family", you don't see that with other religions. So it would assume the definition of a Jew is much more than just religion.
