McCain: Change name from ‘bailout’ to ‘rescue’ By: Andy Barr September 30, 2008 09:46 AM EST
John McCain has a piece of advice for the House of Representatives when it reconvenes later this week for a second go around at a $700 billion financial package, call the bill a “rescue” rather than a “bailout.”
“The first thing I'd do is say, let's not call it a bailout, let's call it a rescue because it is a rescue. It's a rescue of Main Street America,” McCain said in an interview on CNN’s “American Morning.”
“We haven't convinced people that this is a rescue effort, not just for Wall Street, but for Main Street America.”
The Arizona senator urged the House to make as many attempts as it takes to get the bill through.
“We'll go at it. I'm glad to stay at it,” McCain said. “I may fail a first time, or the second time, or third time but we have to get this job done for America and I have a plan to restore our economy.”
Asked if he will again suspend his campaign to focus on the financial crisis, McCain said he will “do whatever is necessary.”
