Even worde when I go hiking or camping & find litter...why in the world someone would do it there....aren't you trying to escape that, & why you are out in nature.

that Americans seem to be the biggest litterbugs in the world.  Last night I'm on way home from a late night rendezvous and  I'm stopped at a light when I look in my rear view mirror and there behind me the people are unloading their Burger King bags of lord knows what, then the driver opens up his door and dumps the cigarette butts onto the street.  (Mind you,  this is  a very nice neighborhood, so the excuse that other garbage is there isn't even valid,  not that would be an excuse either))

What kind of people are we raising that they feel they are entitled to have no respect for other people.  Is it that they feel no sense of ownership or pride for the community? Or is it that they want/expect someone else to remove it or is it that they are too lazy to dispose of the item(s) properly.

I am certainly not a person who wants more laws,  nor do I believe that just because I don't like something that there should be law against it.   But this is the essence of "love of country" and if there is no respect in the appearance of highways,  byways,  oceans and just other people,  we have nothing.  IMHO

I'm really curious as to others opinions,  if it bothers them,  do they think legislature should have a place?  There are some states now that have an "Adopt A Highway" program, where if a company pays to have cleans up done,  they can advertise for free,  sounds great, but as always there are those that issues of extremism,  such as the KKK wanting to advertise their ideas.

All thoughts and suggestions appreciated

pigs will always be pigs..i would hate to see their homes..the ones that gall me are the ones that deliberately throw food into a crowded parking lot so they can watch the pigeons go crazy over it..all it does is scare the kids and invite bird shit on your car..real fucking geniuses..

probably have yards that look like Sanford and Son, and their cars are probably knee deep in McDonald bags and cups, lottery tickets, beer cans, and empty cigarette packs.  I use to live on a busy highway and that is the things I would pick up out of my yard.

You know what,  doggie doo is bio degradable,  as are most foods, so that doesn't bother me quite so much, but to just dump toxic waste out of your car, and you can't wait to get to an appropriate disposal, which by the way,  is usually very close by.  I take my dog to the park and it is absolutely atrocious how people in the children's playground area will just leave bottles,  plastic plates,  cups etc. when there is garbage can no more than 15 or 20 feet from them.  This is what we are teaching (or more appropriately,  not teaching)  our children,  tis very sad.  Respect is an attitude. It is a response to others that may be verbal and non-verbal. Respect is the attitude of admiration or esteem - to hold in esteem or consider well-regarded - towards others, oneself and one's possessions. A respectful child takes care of belongings and responsibilities, and a respectful child gets along with peers, parents and figures of authority.

I have been fortunate to have travelled a bit,  and I never saw this in other countries,  their streets are free of litter,  on the Audobahns of Germany I never remember seeing liter,  but what I do remember though,  is a little boy maybe 5 or 6 yrs old,  take a piece of gum out of his pocket,  walk over to the trash disposal,  probably 30 ft from him and put that wrapper in that disposal,  then come back to his mother's side and continue on their way.

Sadly America doesn't teach its youth anymore how to be courteous and respectful to their fellow man and it is overflowing into our streets,  oceans etc.  as well as their verbiage.

But I gotta tell ya, a guy dumping cigarette butts out on the street is nothing compared to what a paper factory will dump into a river.

When coal fired power plants release 48 tons of mercury into the air every year, then it doesn't fucking matter very much if people throw garbage everywhere, does it?

Sometimes liter is biodegradable. And other times, it will fucking kill you.

Oh for 5 years, I have been dealing with 4-6 families that let their dogs "doo" their thing in my front yard. I came into some $$$, I put in a home security system with video feed in my yard. I put up a sign saying " No pooping allowed" with the dog emblem crapping one out.
That nite 3 dogs visited my yard. the next day I scooped it up and gave it back to each homeowner on their front door steps with pictures of time stamp and them watching. Guess what all 3 apologized to me and problem solved.. no more "doo".  I am positive the others have gotten the word cus now for 4 months I am "doo-less" in my front yard.

I must not find it disgusting enough, because I never get out of my car and pick up the trash after I see some one toss their trash to the ground.

I clean up the trash on my own street, that is as far as I go.

Your so right Willy,  but the point was,  the lack of respect people have for their fellowman and America.  Where has it gone?  And,  to your point that "it doesn't fucking matter",  it does Willy, because  metaphorically speaking,  for every hole plugged up in the barrel,  that is one less drop of water coming out,  and that Sir,  can make a difference.
