This was originally Pelosi's brainchild.(as if she has any brains) It didn't make sense when she proposed it, it still doesn't make sense when Obama supports it.

It's not even "feel good" legislation, it's short term impact is negligible and will have absolutely no long term benefits.

Without substantial new drilling, just what have we accomplished. The SPR only holds 700 million bbls, to put this into perspective 700 million bbls is barely a months supply and will have no impact on world prices. If we drained the entire reserve we are talking about a little more than a weeks consumption. Only a moron would think this is an answer to high energy prices.

energy plan - INCLUDING THAT LOONE they gave the No Bell prize to - AL "i'm an idiot" GORE.  A comprehensive plan would have to take into account...

1) whatever solution we come up with is NOT going to happen overnight, so what do we do to bridge between now and when the plan comes on line.

2) the plan must provide for energy independance - unless we just want one world government... (as I suspect some do).

3) the plan may (or may not) utilize some non-renewable resources, but only for those needs to bridge or where there is no potential substitute.

4) The plan must be realistically achievable

5) whether or not you believe in man-made global warming, the environmental issues surrounding it are completely compatible with energy independance, and a renewable energy goal - so quit arguing - and agree - and formulate a common plan.

6) We must let go of the notion that we can import energy "forever" - without tapping into our resources... that is pissin the rest of the world off.... quite a bit.

7) Solutions are likely to not please everyone, however, we need to examine ALL possible solutions - reach compromises that permit the overall viability of the country to prevail.

While I do not agree with ALL that T-Boone Pickins proposes.... I do agree that we need to be comprehensive....

who among the current political crop is willling to be honest?  Pelosi seems to think that most americans can affort $4-5 a gallon gasoline, OBama seems to think that taxing big oil will lead to lower gas prices (ain't that a hoot) and McCain is still fascinated by e-mail....

comprehensive plan... where?

maybe he'll take off his wonderful Israeli/US flags lapel pin and turn it upside down?

or maybe he'll just move it to his right lapel?

or maybe he'll do both?

or maybe he'll revisit Israel and mouth these son-to-be-immortal words :  'Ich bin ein Likudist"?

Obama was in Michigan today. I heard his speech on the news this morning. Michigan being a huge automobile state, the gist of his speech did center around his oil plan which I feel he did a good job in describing. Now, how many people agree with his plan, and if he wins how the plan will apply to real life is a different story but I am glad I had the chance to hear him out on the news this morning regarding this issue.

planning is for COMMIES!  like in the old USSR, and look where are now!  and self-agrandizing leftists who want to control your life via control over the economic system!  and they're not being nanny-statists, that is.

you got your lovely free market.  please proceed to enjoy and please especially proceed to refrain from bitching.

why would any conservative fault Obama for failing to have an energy plan?

As opposed to things that are his actual principles.

Republicans should like him for that. His views about energy seem very flexible.

But I think he's serious about the windfall profits tax. He wants to use the windfall as another $1000 economic stimulus package sent to citizens.

I think as windfall profit taxes go, that's a pretty smart, since oil companies are about the only industry doing very well in this economy. I think from reading the stimulus needed to be 3-4 times larger to rescue the economy, and it would be better than the general bailout the Feds just passed.

How can Republicans complain after Bush sent out a stimulus.

Because Republicans know any extra money taken from the oil companies, will go back to the oil companies via raised prices at the pump..

NO DRILLING IN THE CONTINENTAL US OR OFF SHORE>....

That is the current plan.... you like $4 a gallon gas...  Great!  cause it will go higher...

Govenmental planning is a part of EVERY government - including this one... and always has been... even picking where the capital was to be was planning... and people profited from that choice.  Get real.... ALL govenments plan.

What is so stupid about this is that the energy plan that is in place now perpetuates our dependance of foreign sources for energy.

I don't know about other conservatives, but you've sold me! Vote Obama!

Yeah, that makes sense. He's going to raise taxes, and hand out another check to "citizens." So, I'm pretty happy he'll raise my taxes and give it only to "citizens".  I would be sad if BO gave it to illegals, too. If the other silly libs have their way I bet I'll pay more tax and it will go to illegals, too. And I bet once again I don't get one of these stimulus checks either, even though I pay a shitload of taxes every year.

Tax oil company profits? Yeah, that's more solid thinking. Then the dinks will be whining that their pension funds are down, and find a way to blame a Republican.
