Lets see, these were the gems that have come out of this blabber mouth in the last few weeks:
" I agree with Barack there is one solution for our economy and its a 3 letter Word J O B S"
" You have to get out there a tell people whats happening like FDR did we he went on TV and talked to people abouth the Depression"
" Barack is going to get tested with a major incident in the first 6 months of taking office"
I paraphase to save space but you can look it up , although most of the media has ignored this. If Palin had said any of this it would be front page news.
He is not so dumb on Number Three. It may not have been the best thing for him to say, but Madeline Albright, a definate Obama supporter, clearly said that he was just reciting a fact in saying that they will want to test him.
Actually, I don't know if he was off base in saying it. The full context was that when that happens, Obama is going to have to make some decisions that will not be popular and he was asking the audience to stand by them when that happens.
Putting it in context, this was not a bad thing to say.
If Obama is tested, I hope he makes some unpopular and tough decisions. At that time I will stand by him.
Ha, I guess we will have more Bushisms with Biden as Vice President. He should know that jobs, at least in America today, is a 9 letter word, McDonald's..
Should we expect anything more to be produced from this rancid system. These are weak people, their puppet masters could not manipulate men of stronger stuff who have led Western Civilization in the past.
The FDR vs Bush Doctrine thing was a matter of the media distinguishing between a brain fart and dangerous incompetence. In fact, she would have likely gotten a pass on the Bush Doctrine question had the entire interview had not been such a train wreck. I don't think you can compare someone forgetting the year that TV was invented to someone who expects to lead this country not knowing ANYTHING at all about domestic and foreign matters. You also have to account for the fact that Palin was, and continues to be, restricted from media contact. The whole cloak-and-dagger routine made this woman a complete mystery - so when her intro turned out to be a massive fuck-up, of course it was newsworthy . There wasn't really any inequitable treatment in that regard. If anything JM's camp created that fiasco.
Given the propensity of his opponent to take statements out of context, it may have been prudent to go more "off-the-record." I don't know. What he said holds true no matter who number 44 happens to be, though, and wasn't damning Obama's first term the way it was made out to be.
who is acting in the defense of this great country and / or in the defense of individual liberty has my support. Of course, much of that which passes for defense of our country these days is not much more than profit making for the people who own this country. Interesting contrast, Afghanistan, and Iraq. (I served in both countries). And of course Individual Liberty is being eroded at an accelerating rate, and most "citizens" seem to be all for it.
"When we restrict liberty to attain security we will lose them both." - Benjamin Franklin (note - many versions of this saying have been handed down - )
#3 I too saw nothing to get excited about with respect to Biden's remarks about Obama being tested. It really doesn't matter who wins the elections. Our enemies will certainly attempt to "test" his resolve and our resolve as a nation. I too hope that if Obama wins, he will make the tough calls as well.
The remark about FDR adressing the nation on TV though, that was priceless - and barely noticed by the same media who turned Charlie Gibson's BS question about "the bush doctrine" into a 7 day story.
I think that Obama is more likely to be tested than McCain.
the reason for this is that Obama's history has mixed messages, so our enemies are not sure as to where he stands.
For example, his former church had a lot of sympathy for Hamas, reprinting their bullitens etc. He sat in their pews for 20 years, during some of that time they said a lot of anti-Israel things. Some of his supporters are also anti-Isreal.
Although Obama has expressed pro-Isreal sentiments recently, this creates an ambiguity. It is the ambiguity that creates the need to test him.
Likewise, his initial responses regarding Georgia were not real strong - urging restraint, suggeting the UN where Russia has a veto.
This creates a question of when will he draw the line? It is that question that provokes the test.
Not all new presidents provoke such tests. If they have been clear in the past, there is not question where they stand.
(One example of a president that was percieved as strong was Reagan. Gorby said that when Reagan did not back down from the air controler's strike, he knew this was a man not to screw around with.)
PS. WHEN THE TEST COMES, I WILLS STAND BEHIND OBAMA. IF HE WINS, HE WILL BE THE PRESIDENT OF THE U.S. HE WILL BE MY PRESIDENT, EVEN IF I DISAGREE WITH HIM AT TIMES.
Anyone who speaks for 1,000 hours in public is going to say a lot of dumb things. This is why I didn't get upset over the "Bushisms." If everything you say is recorded, you are going to sound dumb.
With that said, my favorite "Bushism" was by Gray Davis, the former governor of California, who when commenting on the diversity of California said that California was an incredibly diverse state. He added "We have people from every planet."
Actually, now that I think about it, and looking at a lot of the people I see on the streets of L.A., I think he may be right. We do have people from every planet.
The only dangerous incompetence was Charlie Gibson's incorrect belief that a "bush doctrine" actually exists. There is no such Bush Doctrine. There have now been three distinct policies by the Bush Administration that have come to labelled as "the bush doctrine" by the media. Gibson's question is either an indication of his own ignorance, or of his intent to ambush Palin with what amounts to a trick question. I've always respected Gibson, so I'll give him the benefit of the doubt and assume that he simply made a mistake.
However, if you want to make some distinctions, lets look at the following....
"Troopergate" has recieved widespread attention. Were you even aware of the fact that while Joe Biden was going against his own party to pass a credit bill that was highly favorable to MBNA, Biden's son was being paid and "undisclosed" (but highly lucrative) consulting fee by MBNA. This story was a VERY brief blip on the newswire when Biden was running for President. Understandably since Biden was never a factor in the presidential race, it was never investigated further. Now that he is the VP nominee, shouldn't SOME gumshoe reporter be trying to find out how much Biden's son was being paid by MBNA while Daddy was acting as MBNA's congressional surrogate???
Furthermore, the press had a field day with the fact that Todd Palin got a DUI more than 20 years ago. A twenty year old DUI. This was actually a HEADLINE when the press uncovered it. Were you aware of the fact that only weeks before Biden was announced as the VP nominee, his daughter got a DUI? Not twenty years ago, just a few months ago. If the husband of the VP nominee is held to such scrutiny, why isn't the daughter of the other VP nominee?
The standards are different. That is the point I'm making. NO ONE could undergo the scrutiny that Palin has experienced, and come away looking good. That is the point I am making.
Your post was drawing a comparison between Joe Biden's TV statement and Palin's Bush Doctrine interview. You didn't mention any other supposed inequities in that argument until now.
There does exist a Bush Doctrine. I will give you that it became more and more inclusive as his presidency continued, but one of the main pillars of preemptive strikes is the root of the controversy. Perhaps Charles should have questioned her about specific aspects of the doctrine for the benefit of the viewers (most don't really know what the doctrine entails), but a VP candidate doesn't get a pass here. Disagree or not, though, most of that interview revealed a bumbling idiot running for number two. That was the mainstream media's focus, not the Bush Doctrine question. As a matter fact, many reporters expressed agreement with your view of that particular inquiry.
You must've gotten the DUI story from talk radio. Joe's daughter wasn't arrested for DUI - it was a misdemeanor charge of obstructing a police officer during a bar fight in Chicago. I'm not even sure she was convicted - I'd have to look that one up. Yes, a misdemeanor charge on the part of a child who doesn't insert herself in her dad's official duties carries less journalistic value than a felony DUI CONVICTION of a husband who's a fixture in his governor wife's office.
I'm also aware of the relationship between Joe and MBNA and how he worked to limit bankruptcy protection, etc, etc. First, I disagree with it only being a minor "blip" on the newswire. It was thoroughly explored by the Times and other major publications, both now and in his past runs for office. "Gumshoe reporters" have in fact resurrected that investigation, but it didn't turn up anything more than what's been reported already; which was very little to begin with. Also, Joe was actually VETTED when chosen as the Dem's VP candidate, unlike Palin. So when questions were directed to the Obama campaign about the issue, there were no inconsistencies or suspicious answers. With JM's campaign there were a series of "no comments" and ambiguous conjecture that led to a feeding frenzy. If you catch an entire presidential campaign off guard, the media is going to have a fucking field day with it. Also with Troopergate, there was an official inquiry into alleged wrongdoing on the part of the governor by Alaska's legislators. Had there been a government investigation into Biden's actions, you may have been on your way to having a valid point. Logic, not bias led to more coverage here.
I'll mention this again: The tireless efforts to keep Palin hidden from the media led to them going around her to get information. Perhaps there would have less attention to her fuck-ups had the campaign not made her into a damn riddle. The mainstream media is very often guilty of bias and subjective reporting, I'll give you that. In regards to Palin, however, her fuckups and follies weren't the same as Biden's. She's more newsworthy (and rightfully so) because the circumstances surrounding their campaigns are different.
If you have another example of media bias against Palin that you feel can't be explained, please enlighten me.
Honestly, Joe Biden has always been infamous for his gaffes as well as his long-windedness. However, he is by no means an imbecile.
Oh, don't forget the time he asked a wheelchair-bound man to stand up. LOL. He can act a little dopey sometimes, but given my affinity for older men, that only endears him to me. (And yes, I like John McCain too -- I've liked him since the first time I saw him on the Daily Show when I was 13 or 14 -- I just don't like him as a presidential candidate.)
The Bush administration covertly paid millions to insure Obama or McCain would be the next President .. Why you ask...No matter who gets elected it won't take long with either of those two ,before the country will realize Bush is not a dumb as many think ..and his legacy and History will be more in favor, just like what happened to Lincoln..After we get done with a Obama or McCain presidency they might knock down Lincolns monument and replace it with a Statue of Bush..Mark my words!!!..and if Obama gets the Presidency it won't be long before the Media turns on him like vampires at night. We have a overabundance of "stupid" voters in this country from both sides..Why would they ever elect someone so over their head as a Mensa member?
I don't anticipate that either candidate is going to be lauded as perfect after they serve their first time. They are being handed a nation in ruins, an empire that threatens to crumble -- and not all because of Bush (SOME of the mess was started by Clinton, especially in regards to housing & credit), although it was within Bush's power to change those mistakes before they became fatal for our economy.
Third, I didn't say that Biden IS a MENSA member... I said that COMPARED TO Bush, he is a MENSA member -- not a huge feat! It would serve you well to pay attention to my words next time.
Biden is a liar that defames a man after he is dead and cannot defend himself . He uses that tragedy at another family's expense for political gain . It was not the fault of the trucker that killed his wife who entered the intersection past a stop sign and the man was not drunk but Biden said he was in political speeches. The HP still has it posted that the man was drunk . That is the true character of Biden .I will not mince words .Biden is a piece of crap for this action.
"Third, I didn't say that Biden IS a MENSA member... I said that COMPARED TO Bush, he is a MENSA member -- not a huge feat! It would serve you well to pay attention to my words next time."
I didn't say you did..I merely responded to your post with my view that Bush is not as dumb as some people like to believe..In my opinion Biden is one of the slickest car salesman that ever missed his calling and he speaks before he thinks and dumber than Bush and Bush isn't anywhere near Mensa, nor Obama or McCain .. One things for sure no matter who wins the election they will be a perpetual gaffe machine...I apologize if you didn't get my drift due to my improper articulation and sentence structure that gave you difficulties understanding.Commas removed simply for your personal challenge..
