And stay away from deep water drilling, until the oil industry proves they can control a blow out, without looking like a monkey fucking a football, trying to cap it.
One of the few times I agree with my #2BFF Pri, why are nuke plants in California?
I certainly don't want a running nuke plant, dropping in the Pacific Ocean, if the big one hits, and California drops off the map.

As much as I hate coal, or any fossil fuel for that matter, at least with it you don't have to worry about nuclear melt downs and turning a part of this country into someplace uninhabitable because of a screw up. Maybe we ought to look more into solar. Not because it's all happy feel good liberal green tree-huggy, but because I don't know of anyone who'd like to volunteer to die of cancer. And for those that think this isn't possible until way into the future, I gotta ask, if not now, then when?
mainly because there have been no major accidents in places like Japan and France. Now I'm less sure because I'm not sure how you can build a plant to withstand the kind of tsunami that caused the current mess. Beyond that, the earth is so powerful there's probably no way to be completely sure of protection from any natural disaster. So the question is, to we take that risk? If we don't, we expose ourselves to other risks (dependence on foreign oil, pollution, etc.). There is no easy way out, as we are not going to cut our demand for energy.
I would not be surprised if he calls a committee together with survivors and gets their opinions on the disaster. He is probably rethinking Gadhafi too and Obama will give him a good talking to! Lots of thought going into health care and expect more speeches in the near future. I can almost feel Obama thought waves, like nuclear radiation, permeating the world and making it safe and warm. We are on the forefront of rethinking and speeches. Not to worry.
F_U, I hear you're gonna be "the guest of honor" at a Cabrini green M & G reunion--------
In re to the OP, at least to the 2 nuke plants located on Ca. earthquake faults ( San Onofre & Diablo Canyon ), we should learn from the Japanese example & shut them down.

If priapus53 wears a wig, he should qualify.
Just waiting for approval on my Pus review. Be nice to this one, guys!
Speaking of asprin overdoses, scuttlebutt I hear is that you almost accidentally overdosed on what is depicted below.----------
Btw, Holey, what's the kvetching ? You & F_U are BELOVED by the TER African-American provider/hobbyist community ! I know for a fact that you & F_U's EVERY word on this board is being "monitored" by that particular TER community demographic !
You guys should be proud !!

You certainly are proud to repetitively announce, you hear and know a lot, about guys on the boards.
It's no wonder, you find no time for providers, when your world is consumed with feminine gossiping traits.
The biggest problem with gossip, it's not always true, just like sounding out when spelling.
BTW It's spelled particular and almost .
That would shatter my world. He is the last person I would suspect of tattletailing. I highly doubt the most popular guy on the P&R board would narc anyone out. That would be like our own little deep throat, wouldn't it?
I think you misspelled.
But, if you're "criminally stupid", not my fault------ Shit----I HATE snitches !
Btw, did you know your "idol" , Ronald Reagan ( pictured below ) was a chickenshit snatch, err, "snitch", before HUAC in the late 40's ? Maybe HE turned your fat ass in------LMAO !
In re to quad, fixed my typos after modification;can you say same about the following ? : "dualing sluggers".-----LMAO !
Also, after your link below, should you call ANYONE's masculinity into question ?!
I will say this, Quad----thx for sending me that "pink lace hankey" through UPS-------it's ADORABLE !------------- LMFAO !

NOT!
With progress comes some risk. More people have died from aspirin the nuke plants.
All the fear mongering going on now is laughable.
Coal, oil. We should be beyond those commodities.
I graduated from high school. I think we've learned a lot since Three Mile Island and Chernobyl. I'd bet we proceed with nuclear power, but more cautiously, while eying other forms of alternative power more seriously. So, what have we learned? Stay away from building on major earthquake faults, and places where there could be a tsunami. That sounds reasonably simple.
It can take up to 10 years to cool spent fuel rods. Can you reasonably guarantee that no fuck ups will happen in 10 years?
Maybe we ought to put our primary focus in energy that produces the least amount of risk. If that's not enough to meet demand, use resources that pose a slightly higher amount of risk.

I assume you're not glowing in the dark. I quit surfing years and years ago due to the quality of the water, or lack thereof. I never surfed after a rainstorm. Even if I waited a week, I still wasn't comfortable, plus you always had the territorial bullshit.
I spent my youth surfing from Surfrider all the way up to Campus Point @ UCSB.
surf anymore. That and having broken my arm while body surfing at Zuma beach. One good thing about my Aikido training, my tuck and roll saved me from breaking my neck.
at night. Warm up in the discharge cooling water, no need for glow in dark condoms.
in the same area. If lethal radiation is emitted at one reactor, then workers cannot repair, cool, or maintain the other five, as seems to be happening. Even Chernoble only had 4 reactors.
So the catastrophe of any one of the six breaking containment is possibly if not likely to be multiplied by six. And if this happens, huge parts of Japan may become inhabitable for lifetimes.
Seems like a one reactor per site is the next "reasonably simply" design feature.
One online with fuel rods that are operational, and one where to spent fuel rods are being removed and replenished with new ones. That way there is always one online.
Its called geo-thermal energy!
Simple, clean and its only release is water/water vapor.
This type of energy generation harms no one/nothing including the immediate environment if/when a disaster such as Japan happens!
It also means a power generation plant can be built anywhere (a hole in the earth can be drilled)!
Too bad it will never happen large scale; too many powerful 'entities' making money from current 'dirty' power systems.

jhonny8770 "It also means a power generation plant can be built anywhere (a hole in the earth can be drilled)!"
Not accurate! Every hole drilled,in search for a geothermal energy plant location is not successful. Some geographical locations are much better than others.
With todays technology,it would require {hundreds of thousands + -} of miles deep holes in the Earth, to supply all the worlds electrical supply.
One possible risk would be earthquakes created, by all those holes drilled near tectonic plates.
Is there a chance the earths molten core serves a purpose? If we drill thousands upon thousands of holes, and release heat, year after year,is there a possibility of causing man made global freezing?
Wikipedia is not the only source for massive science projects.
Taking my GED soon . I better go study.

Or randomly releasing radiation into our atmosphere to avert said meltdown??!!!??
Or the stupidity of building numerous nuke plants ON the 'ring of fire'?!?
OR the global catastrophe we've already created burning fossil fuels/disposing of spent nuclear waste?!?
Is this what you're saying?!?
And you imply I have child-like knowledge!!
Cooling the Earths core/man-made global freezing by releasing steam from it's crust??
Where did you read these 'facts', Mobil/Exxon or BPs site?
Continually poisoning the air we breathe/our water/the very ground we walk on is not only as assinine as you're rationale; in geological timeframes, it's incredibly short-term suicide for our species in the name of profit!

No, You are new here, and don't realize I have been studying for my GED, the last five years.
The link I posted was merely one of my study
guides. I like to start off with the basics before attempting to read M.I.T analysis.
I didn't state any "facts". I was asking questions. Phuck Exxon .I haven't bought their gas since they welched on the Valdez disaster.
I am proof, one man boycotts don't work.
I haven't read anything about geothermal possibly releasing too much of the earths heat balance, after thousands and thousands of holes are drilled, and many years of dissipating heat.. That is why I used the word possibility, and question marks. More than a few times, the brightest scientists failed to look at the completed picture.
Let's not forget, Nuke plants were once thought by many brainiacs as safe, with the waste easily disposed and contained.
I began to wonder about that, when I noticed local service stations, digging up and replacing their old style underground "safe" tanks after they leaked gas in the ground water.
I have read speculation ,drilling holes near the earths plates causes earthquakes.
IMO we haven't drilled enough holes, to prove that true or false.
I commented to your post because you were speaking with generalities and absolutes, without question marks.
For every action there is a reaction. The question more often remains, what will that reaction be.
But as is, I think we're only utilizing a tiny fraction of what is being pumped out via natural emissions of magma.
Regardless, as I understand it, the sun provides the earth with 10,000 times more energy than we currently use. All we gotta do is figure out how to store it. I'm betting the technology is already there, we just need to invest in it.
"Regardless, as I understand it, the sun provides the earth with 10,000 times more energy than we currently use."
When scientists figure how to layer solar cells with efficiency, solar will be on the way to your car hood.
The problem with solar at this particular time, the cost is expensive due to the size requirement of solar panels ,along with requiring much space and land to feasibly work everywhere, and the size required of battery banks, to give light to the night.
When they deduct how to make batteries much smaller, and more efficient, without being cost prohibitive, solar will be shining more often than not.
