About 90% of what the Education Dept does is give students college loans. Because the money is always guaranteed, universities can charge whatever they want for tuition. The result is not better education, but higher tuition that people are enslaved into paying back. The quality of college education has plummeted, but the number of college administrators have skyrocketed. We’ve completely wrecked higher education and the Dept. Of Education is a big reason why. It should have been abolished decades ago.
The state is already playing it's part in education the America people (who want to be educated and can make the cut) through its public colleges and universities. Education and health care is a right not a privilege and must be paid for by my tax dollars. India,China, Korea,Taiwan,Nigeria,Cuba,etc .. and many other countries have a higher literacy rate than America - what a shame, A country claiming to be the wealthiest, the most democraic is a total joke.We are living under white supremacy not democracy. We are living under a system where sellout politicians are owned by a few oligarchs along with the foreign entity AIPAC and it's Israel Zionist.
No private interests should be funding universities and colleges. We have 800 plus military bases across the world- for what. Are we an empire. Do we want to control everybody because we are the beacon of light when it comes o democracy, at the same time committed genocide in Palestine, and other atrocities across the world.
If we truly want to safe money why don't we eliminate military waste.If we we truly want to stop illegal immigration why not put military installations along the border. We did it in the Afghan mountains and in Iraq so no excuse.
Subsidizing tuition has done nothing but vastly increase the administrator to student ratio while reducing the quality of the education. Students should go to private banks for a student loan. Students should be allowed to declare bankruptcy on said loan if they can’t find a job that allows them to repay the loan and not live in poverty. And the universities must be the co-signer on said loans. You put that in place and the quality of the education will skyrocket and the cost will plummet.

Education in the U.S. is in severe turmoil. We generally spend more than almost all Euro and Asian nations and yet our kids do worse in comparison to those international children in far too many occasions. Too many high school kids in America graduating while not being proficient in reading and/or math. It is a national embarrassment.

What we should be doing is getting smart kids the best education and dumb kids should be shown how to do something more suited for them.
